Amy Lee 1. What made you decide to get involoved in professional wrestling? Were you a fan before you got involved? I was a fan since I was "knee high to a grasshopper". I would get so excited watching the different personas and how they counter acted with one another. The good guy overcoming the bad guy and the big lead-up to it was incredible. It was like watching a live comic book each week. I would live for the next week and talked to my older brothers about what we thought was going to happen. We even bet our chores for the week! I decided to go into professional wrestling at a young age. It took me a little bit of time to find someone to give me a shot. Having a martial arts background, the "technique" part was easy. The persona part was even easier being a "ham" in the public so to speak. 2. What promotions do you and have you worked for? Which have been
your favorites and why? I worked for so many.....Dennis Coralluzzo was the very first promoter who saw potential in my "big mouth/cocky attitude" He and Larry Sharpe ran the WWA for many years, then Dennis got me a shot with USWA...Unfortunately, Dennis pissed me off and I wound up kicking his ass (physically) afterwards, I worked for a lot of small local promoters since Dennis put the word out that I was trouble. Tom Rumsby who was a promter in NJ gave me a shot which led me to work for other promoters such as John Rambo (HOPWF) and Dick Caricofe (NWL) then promotions such as WWSA, NWS, NWA JERSEY, GLOOW, DWOW, WEW, etc. began using me. I liked working for Dennis, but he just pissed me off with his goofiness, but he was very talented as a promoter. Truthfully, I liked working for certain with whom this day I have a friendship with suchas Dapper Johnny, Gino Moore, John Rambo and Dick Caricofe....these guys are fun and use your talents to the EXTREME....not to mention they are fair and understanding. I have to say though, Rambo puts people over and you will see why in my question to No. 9.. 3. What has been your most memorable moment in the business thus far? In the ring: Managing Eddie Gilbert is one of the biggest highlights. Wrestling Riptide in Hovember to Remember in a hardcore match...Outside the ring: When Terry Funk, Coralluzzo, Gilbert, Moore and I al were coming back from Wayne, NJ and Patsy Cline was singing on the radio...Funk said "I can't believe she is dead" Coralluzzo thinking Funk meant me kept telling him I wasnt dead just sleeping in the front seat...Funk realizing that Coralluzzo meant me and Funk meant Patsy Cline. Funk said "not AmyLee, Dennis, Patsy Cline, I cant believe she's dead!" I nearly peed my pants... 4. What do you think of the current state of professional wrestling in general? Do you think that with the WWE being the only "Big" fed now, it has hurt the business? TV sucks anymore..whatever happen to the tough chicks???? The women on TV today look like stepford wrestlers...Dont get me wrong...there is nothing wrong with beautiful girls wrestling, but HELL there are no real "Evil" girls on TV...like the older days when you wanted to ring their necks for being so mean/nasty. They are all alike....no variety except hair color.....It's like TV wrestling is trying to hold on to something that has been long gone.....the mystery and excitement....It's like having a steak every night of the week for dinner....BORING!!!!! TV wrestling needs some UMPH...that is why I liked the olders days (1970's wreslting) 5. Who have been your favorite people to step into the ring with or against? I have met so many talented people....I liked managing Gilbert and Dick Murdoch, of course, but wrestling wise I would have to say Riptide and Fantasia...They are real "kickass" women who will go toe to toe....I hate when girls say "please dont hurt me" My answer is: "if you dont want to take a chance in getting hurt, stay the F*** out of the ring!!!" 6. As a woman in a predominantly male sport, do you ever find it difficult to stick with it? Are you ever treated differently by the guys because you are a female? I never found it hard because I never looked at it like a gender thing. I started karate in 1977, when there werent too many women so I was use to being the only girl in the dojo. I was always considered "one of the guys" because I am far from a priss! I didnt try hooking up with the "boys" to get a position, etc. I did it on my own talent which was being a real BITCH!!! Besides, I knew that I had to change somewhere else like the ladies' room and felt it was partially my responsibility to find a place to change. Worse case I would ask a janitor for a room to change. Could you imagine 20 guys in the mens' room changing because I wanted to use the lockerroom ..... NOT!!!! 7. When you're not wrestling, what do you enjoy doing? I enjoy teaching karate the most. Especially, to children. If I was guaranteed medical, pension, etc then I wouldnt be working in a law firm. Dont get me wrong, my job is very challenging, but I rather be in the dojo...I also have a softer side to my hardass appearance which is spending time with my niece, Jessica....she is the apple of my eye. She helps me with my ferrets. I also like wrestling with my fiancé, Art Palmer, he is a retired worker who has a lot of knowledge...besides it is our FOREPLAY!!! 8. What wrestlers do you enjoy watching? I always enjoyed watching Dick Murdoch with his "traditional" moves. He wasnt a fancy man, strong as a bull though, but God help you if you screwed up, cause he would mawl you in the ring....Moolah cause she just was ALL THAT!!! A legitimate badass!!! Hulk Hogan for interviews...that man has such charisma...He can bring an arena to its feet and for a short moment in time, have the entire place agree/get along....That is power!!!!! 9. What has been your most embarassing moment in the business? Having to manage this independent wrestler in a barbwire match against John Rambo....The guy was sooooooo horrible that the crowd was silent during the match...Imagin a barb wire match with no crowd reaction. It wound up where Rambo mingled with me outside the ring. Rambo put me over as the biggest BITCH of all time. 10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Still teaching martial arts and probably refereeing when I get too old
to wrestle...I have been refereeing for NWS for the past two years...who
knows, maybe Vince will recognize my knowledge/talent and give me a job
as a female referee since I aint no size 5 and have celulite on my thighs.....(laugh)
When I get old I want to own a produce road stand wearing funny cowgirl
hats, hanging out with my ferrets/niece and kicking some punks ass kid
for stealing a tomato or two......(crack myself up) |
