Anthony's Asylum

Hello fellow indy wrestling fans! This is Anthony Lora, and welcome to the second edition of "Anthony's Asylum" In this column, I'll be discussing and analyzing wrestling's version of a rock group collaboration: TAG-TEAM WRESTLING!

First, tag-team wrestling is an essential element to wrestling similar to how rock is to rock-band. Both terms are also strikingly similar as it relates to fan base acceptance. For example, one may particularly like a tag-team/rock-band based on their appearance alone i.e. the Road Warriors (R.I.P Hawk) I know that I speak for many fans when I say that the Road Warriors had a "kick ass and take names" kind of look to them that just struck fear in peoples' eyes. As for others, they might like a specific tag-team/rock-band simply because they enjoy their music (in tag-team's case their work ethic). A prime example of this case would be the Rock "N" Roll Express and rock's most successful duo of the 80's, Daryl Hall and John Oates. Ricky Morton's and Robert Gibson's in-ring work in my opinion can be compared to Hall and Oates musical talents. Take a look at the similarities: Both duos consisted of one blond and a brunette, both were popular during the 80's, and both were very enjoyable to watch.

As you can see, I have the tendency of comparing tag-teams to rock-groups, but it's just the closest thing in my sincerest point-of-view. Afterall, I do enjoy music in the same magnitude as I enjoy wrestling; I feel they are both very unappreciated art-forms. If someone was to ask me who I think is the greatest tag-team or the greatest rock-band of all time, I would not be able to give a straight answer simply because I feel that tag-teams and rock-bands each have contributed to the art in their own ways. Now, if I was asked who I thought was the greatest band/or tag team of a certain decade, I'll easily have an answer for that question. For instance, if anyone were to ask me who I believe was the best tag-team of the 90's, I would say the Steiner Brothers. Likewise, the best rock-band of the 90's to me was the Smashing Pumpkins.

Well, fans, it's been a blast that's it for now as I wrap up the second edition of "ANTHONY'S ASYLUM" Till next time!
