Anthony's Asylum

Greetings fellow indy wrestling fans and welcome to yet another edition of "ANTHONY'S ASYLUM!" On this weeks edition of my column I will be discussing and refelcting the recent passing of the late Big Bossman AKA Big Bubba/Ray Traylor.

Yes, it is rather sad to read about another of the "boys" leaving this earth so soon. It's actually a little scary to me whenever I play my old Nintendo wrestling video games and notice how 50% of the wrestlers featured in the games are dead. Focussing on the subject at hand, I have great memories of the Big Bossman steming back from my childhood. I remember seeing him in action for the first time in the summer of 1988 against Scott Casey(the toughest jobber next to Barry Horowitz at the time). The two put on a solid performance perhaps the best jobber vs superstar match that I had ever witnessed as Casey was apparently dominating 60% of the match up until he made a fatal mistake which ultimately gave Bossman the chance to unvail his finisher, the "Bossman Slam" (See NWA-TNA's Abyss "Blackhole Slam"). The move was so well executed that the impact was similar to that of the sound of when an M-80 is set off.

Another great Big Bossman memory that I recall was the fall of that same year 1988, when he was instantly given a main event push feuding with none other than Hulk Hogan. It was just the right set-up which totally took me by surprise as Hulk Hogan was being interviewed by Brother Love, an instigator who was best known for sparking feuds on his segment: "The Brother Love Show." Meanwhile, the Big Bossman ambushed Hogan handcuffing and beating him unmercifulless. In my opinion, the Hogan/Bossman feud was a billiant storyline as the invincible All-American hero, Hogan was put up against a presumed society "good guy" the Big Bossman, who was instead representing the crooked-cop persona. I think that I speak for just about every insightful wrestling fan when I say that a crooked-cop character can easily draw heel heat without even trying hard. (especially the NYPD- just a joke) Anyways, I'd like to conclude this column with positivity. Afterall, no one ever really dies unless if you choose to forget them.

Well, fans, it's been a blast paying tribute to an unforgetable superstar. That's it for now as I wrap up the third edition of "ANTHONY'S ASYLUM" Till next time!
