10 Questions With...

She is one of the Top 50 women of independent wrestling today. The lovely Cherry Bomb steps up to answer our 10 Questions With...

1. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler?

I have always been a fan of wrestling. Ever since I was baby my dad had me in front of the television watching it with him. I remember pretending to come down to the ring, while listening to the wrestlers entrance music, that being said I never thought of becoming a wrestler until I was seventeen and saw Trish Stratus for the first time. I was totally stoked that a girl was out there kicking ass. I decided from that moment that I would go give it a shot, and I haven't looked back.

2. How did you go about finding a trainer? What was the training like?

I googled "pro wrestling schools" and the first one that came up was Squared Circle Training, in Toronto. It was there that I met my trainer Rob Fuego and after a few months of saving up the funds, I signed myself up, actually on my 18th birthday. Thank God for Google!

The training was really intense. After my first day I was ridiculously sore, muscles ached that I didn't even know I had. It was a good kind of pain though, pain that let me know I was working hard.

3. When was your first pro match, whom was it against and how long after starting your training did it take place?

My first match was in May 2005, it was tag match. Myself, and Taylor Wilde vs Tiana Ringer & Danyah. I had been training for nine months.

4. What promotions do you (and have you) wrestled for? Do any of them stand out as being amongst your favorites (or least favorites)?

A lot of the promotions I have worked are in Ontario, and a few in the states and Quebec. Some of them being GCW, PWX, PWA, ALF, and recently Sparkle/Shimmer, among others.

5. What do you think of the current state of women's wrestling and what do you think of the current state of independent wresting in general?

I think women's wrestling is in a good place right now, I think it could be better, but I think compared to couple of years ago, it is in a much better place.

TNA has, in my opinion revolutionized women's wrestling. The matches are intense, and the fans are truly behind the wrestlers. I have heard from a few people that the women's matches generate the highest ratings during their two hour broadcast, which is no surprise, considering you have women like Angelina Love, Taylor Wilde, and Roxxi, out there WRESTLING. I actually look forward to tuning in, and seeing them in action, its great.

As far as independent women's wrestling is concerned, I feel there is room for improvement. You shouldn't be in a ring, if you haven't been properly trained, period. I can't stress this enough, and yet it seems as though that is sometimes over looked by promoters. Thankfully there are other promotions, like Shimmer, who focus on the importance of being a good WRESTLER, and not...something else.

6. Are you treated (by promoters and/or other wrestlers) any differently because you are a woman in a predominantly male sport? If so, how are you treated on those occasions?

I respect myself, and the people around me, and in a business like this, you have to show your peers and coworkers that. I learned very quickly that, as a woman you have to command respect, and one of the ways you do that, is by being respectful of yourself.

7. What do you like most about being a professional wrestler? What do you like least?

I love being in the ring! I love the feeling I get right before a match, I love the sound of the music and the anticipation of walking to the ring. I love the feel of the mat, and the ropes, its what drives me to continue down this path.

I don't like the drama.

8. What has been your most memorable moment in wrestling thus far?

I received a neck injury last september, which had me out for almost seven months. I couldn't do too much, I couldn't work out, only light cardio, I sure as hell couldn't train. It was a really depressing time in my life, I didn't know if I wanted to continue, if maybe it was a sign and I should just give up. I didn't, that little nagging voice inside of me told me get up, get up, and giver. My first match back was in March or this year. I was so happy the entire match, all this adrenaline running through me! At the end of the match, I hugged Danyah (who was my tag team partner) and my eyes watered up. I got to the back, and then the tears came. I was BACK!

9. If you had to do it all over again, would you do anything differently?

I would have listened a bit more. You live, you learn though, no regrets.

10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Wherever I am, I see myself happy. :)
