Be forewarned.. If you are in the business, and you know any of the Crew
in any way, shape, or form, you may be asked to do a future guest commentary.
If you are one of the brave, feel free to email
me and volunteer. If you do not want to be asked, you will be...
blame Noel as she came up with this idea! Special thanks to Foxxy
for suggesting the name for this column. You rock, Foxxy!
The Answer to the Age Old Question
By Ariel
After being in wrestling for about three years, I have come
across the same question during interviews, questionaires and just plain
curiosity by fans;
"What would you say to someone who is trying to break into wrestling?".
A lot of time people ask for advice also. For this guest commentary, I
will just answer that question once and for all. Of course, you don't
have to listen to me, or take my advice, this is purely my opinions and
my views only.
I would say when thinking about getting involved in the wrestling world,
you have to make sure that it is something you totally want to to. Don't
even waste your time if it is just something you are not going to take
seriously and work at it. Wrestling can be dangerous and if you sit there
and don't know what you want, this could lead into an injury which can
never be good. Make sure you totally have your mind set on doing this.
Next step would be make sure you find a wrestling school to train at.
Don't try to teach yourself or have your friends teach you ( unless they
are trained wrestlers). There have been too many injuries and too many
cases of people horsing around and then hurting themselves. Wrestling
is a fun sport, and is also considered entertainment but it's still something
that you have to get yourself trained for. Go to a wrestling school and
find out the requirements and then if you are still interested, then join
and start training. There are hundreds of schools all across the U.S.A.
If you have no clue where to find out, look it up on the internet. If
that doesn't help, when you go to a wrestling show, ask one of the wrestlers
where you should go.
Then, you have to work hard. Train as much as you can and learn just about
EVERYTHING you can from your trainers and or veterans in wrestling. When
someone tells you something, don't argue, just take it in and listen.
Best thing to do is, keep your mouth shut and your ears open. I was told
that once and it's definitely the best thing to do. You should sit there
like a sponge and take everything in.
Then, you have to mentally be ready for the world of wrestling. That sounds
like a piece of cake but when it comes down to it, its not as easy as
it looks. You have to be able to deal with criticism, and know that you
are not automatically be the best. You have to work really hard and not
complain. If you can't deal with it, you have to decide if it is something
you really want to do. Some people end up giving up after a short while
due to the fact they get discouraged by how tough it actually is. Also,
you have to be able to deal with the drama of wrestling which includes
rumors and people talking about you. Once, being in wrestling, you become
a public figure, so you are in the public eye. So you have to think about
that and realize if you would be able hand that responsibility. You will
end up being a role model for little kids.
Last but not least, if you decide the wrestling world is for you and you
are determined to follow your dreams, do not and I mean DO NOT let anyone
tell you different. I am a big believer of going after your dreams so
if you really want to do it, don't let anyone stop you. Some people will
tell you things, just to get you down or even to see if you are that serious
about the whole thing, but you have to learn that no matter what people
say, if you want it.. go for it. I have come up with a quote for myself
and anyone I can say it too... " If you can dream it.... you can
be come it". If you dream of becoming a professional wrestler than
go for it. Being a profesisonal wrestler is an unreal acconmplishment.
Once you get that rush and addiction for being a wrestler, you won't be
able to turn back. And the fact you make people smile or just make a little
kid's day simply by tagging their hand is an amazing feeling. I don't
think there is anything like it. Wrestling is amazing, but isn't for everyone.
Now if you are an aspiring fan thinking about becoming a wrestler... it's
time for you to decide is it for you? Do you have the mindset? Do you
have the drive? Do you have what it takes?? It's up to you..Don't keep
dreaming... Make your dreams a reality...
