WSU 3rd Anniversary Show (Disc 1) – March 6, 2010 – ACE Arena, Union City, New Jersey

Disc 1 starts with a promo from Sassy Stephanie.

Destiny comes out to welcome the crowd and introduce her ring announcing partner for the evening, So Cal Val.

The first bout sees Angelina Love face off against Sassy Stephanie. Lots of back and forth action until Stephanie takes control and works on Angelina with a series of camel clutches. Some strange editing during the match as Love broke out of the camel clutch but a cut to another angle had her back in the camel clutch until another cut away had her out of the clutch once again. Hmm. Stephanie continued to work on Angelina until Love was able to hit her finisher for the three count. Overall, a good match showcasing how much Sassy Staphanie has improved in the ring.

The Belle Saints with a promo about their debut tonight.

The Boston Shore (Amber and Lexus) are up next to battle The Belle Saints (Tina San Antonio and Marti Belle. This match is the point on the DVD where the commentary suddenly seemed to be about five seconds ahead of the actual match (which may have been an issue with just my copy of the DVD). The Boston Shore dominated the match and Lexus eventually got the pinfall on Marti.

Rick Cataldo entered the ring with Brittney Savage and Jana. Rick gave a 5 minute monologue, most of which could not be heard since the commentators spoke over it. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Evidentially, he challenged someone as Alere Little Feather made her return to WSU and her way to the ring.

Alere Little Feather defeated Rick Cataldo in under two minutes.

After the match, Alere got on the mic to say she was back and ready to take on anyone. Cindy Rogers hit the ring and attacked Alere from behind. Cindy welcomed her back and said this was going to be a match.

Cindy Rogers defeated Alere Little Feather, via submission, after beating her down for the majority of the match. Alere tried to get in some offense but Cindy was able to block or counter it all.

Dawn Marie enters the ring. She states that, as commissioner, she decided the Amber v Jazz match would be a #1 Contenders Match. Rain and Amber O’Neal enter the ring. Dawn then tells them that Molly Holly will serve as guest referee. (Again, the commentators seemed to be 5 – 10 seconds ahead now as they actually announced it long before Dawn actually did).

Next up was a Submission Match between Jana and Latasha. Jana attacked Latasha as she was entering the ring and never let up. Jana dominated the match and applied the JanaVice, forcing Latasha to submit. Decent brawl which will hopefully put an end to the feud.

In an Uncensored Rules Match, Angel Orsini battled Amy Lee and Sumie Sakai. Angel came out to announce that her scheduled opponent, Roxxi, was injured and wouldn’t be able to make it. Sumie came out and was soon followed by Amy Lee. The match developed from there.

All three women battled outside the ring. Now the commentary is about 15 seconds behind the action. At least it doesn’t give away anything! Sumie introduces a ladder to the match which Angel is whipped into. Angel and Sumie worked as a team to beat down Angel. Amy Lee and Sumie each went for pinfalls, on Angel, on the floor. Amy was not happy that Sumie attempted to go for a pinfall. Angel battled back and Sumie soon turned on Amy Lee. Angel and Sumie soon began to double team Amy Lee. Back in the ring, Sumie assaults Amy with a series of forearms and kicks. Amy Lee is then hit with a Kiss of Death, by Angel, on a steel chair. Angel then hits the same move on Sumie for the three count. Any match with Sumie is enjoyable and this one did not disappoint.

Thus concludes Disc 1 of this 2 disc set. The matches were all solid (with the exception of Alere v Rick which was unnecessary). The only downside was the commentary being too far ahead of the actual matches for the first few matches.

WSU 3rd Anniversary Show (Disc 2) – March 6, 2010 – ACE Arena, Union City, New Jersey

Disc 2 starts with an Alicia promo regarding her match with Brittney Savage.

In a WSU Spirit Title match, Alicia defends her title against Brittney Savage w/ Rick Cataldo. Evidentially, we didn’t get enough of Cataldo earlier so he’s back. Savage attacked Alicia but Alicia fired back with a series of chops followed by “that big ass to the face”. I didn’t call it that, the commentators did. Alicia continued to dominate the match until Savage gained the upper hand as they battled at ringside. Savage applied a camel clutch that Alicia was able to break out of. Cataldo distracted the ref and Alicia, allowing Brittney to hit the facelift for a two count. Alicia battled back and hit the A-bomb but Cataldo distracted the ref yet again. Savage sprayed Alicia with hairspray and scored the pinfall to win the Spirit championship. Your new champ, Brittney Savage. I don’t understand the fascination with Savage but, I'm just a fan.

Next up, April Hunter v Traci Brooks. The match started with each lady going for quick rollups on their opponent. This was followed by April molesting Traci’s breasts. April with some chops but Traci quickly began to work on April’s leg. Traci retained control of the match for a while until April hit a big boot on Traci for the pinfall.

After the match, the two women shook hands. April got on the mic to say she was back. The Boston Shore entered the ring as they thought it would be a good time to make a name for themselves. Traci hit the ring and made the save before the Boston Shore could inflict any damage. Traci asked April if she wanted to reform a team called “T n A”. The challenge was issued to the Boston Shore.

In a #1 Contenders Match, Amber O’Neal defeated Jazz. Amber was putting her 5-0 undefeated streak on the line. The match featured a lot of mat wrestling with both women exchanging moves and getting the upper hand. Amber with several submission maneuvers on Jazz, to no avail. Amber put Jazz in an airplane spin, which knocked out the referee. Another ref came in but was taken out when Amber hit Jazz from behind. Amber hit her backslide into a bridge finisher (which I do not know what to call but I love it) into the ropes. The original ref woke up in time to make the three count. One of the best matches I have ever seen Amber have. Then again, when you are in the ring with the likes of Jazz, it would be hard to have a bad match.

Rain and Mercedes Martinez promos regarding their upcoming bout.

For the WSU Championship, Mercedes Martinez defended her title against Rain in an Uncensored Rules match. The special guest referee for the match was Molly Holly. Instead of me trying to call this match just buy the DVD. There was wrestling, tables, chairs, submission maneuvers, brawling, wrestling, and anything else you could ask for. Somewhere past the thirty minute mark, Rain brought in a chair. Rain went for a DDT but Mercedes reversed it only to have it reversed on her. Rain put the chair on Mercedes’ stomach and went to the ropes for a moonsault. Martinez moved and Rain smashed into the mat. Mercedes hit a Fisherman’s Buster on the chair for the pinfall. Wow.

All the production/editing issues that seemed to be annoying on DVD 1 didn’t seem to be an issue on DVD 2. While I will never understand the interest or push of Brittney Savage, the rest of this DVD was solid. Amber O’Neal vs Jazz was phenomenal, as was Mercedes v Rain. It is well worth buying for those two matches alone. The rest of the matches (sans Rick Cataldo's) were solid, enjoyable, and/or served it's purpose in continuing or finally ending a storyline. So far, this was the most solid WSU show I have seen on DVD.
