WSU Awesome Challenge – December 12, 2009 – American Legion Hall, Flemington, New Jersey
Available at WSUWrestling.com

Cindy Rogers vs Nikki Roxx

The DVD began with a promo from Cindy Rogers. Destiny introduced Cindy Rogers while SoCal Val did the introduction for TNA Knockout Nikki Roxx. Two of the best in the business, in the ring together. The match started off with mat wrestling but soon turned into more of a brawl. Cindy did her best to get the victory but Nikki eventually hit the Barbie Crusher for the win. It is so odd to watch Nikki as the heel and Cindy as the face but, they both play the parts very well. After the match, Rogers cut another promo promising that he losing streak will end at the WSU 3rd Anniversary show.

Brittney Savage and Rick Cataldo promo is up next. Long story short, what was supposed to be a tag match will now be a singles match.

WSU Spirit Title Match: Alicia vs Brittney Savage.

Brittney, Rick and Jana made their way to the ring. They announced that this would be a handicap match. Alicia then entered saying Latasha was on her way to the hospital after an attack by Jana. (Even though in an earlier promo Latasha was “ill”.) Needless to say, this will be a Spirit Title Match. Alicia attacked early with forearms followed by a snapmare and a dropkick. Eventually, Brittney took control and the match spilled to the floor. Finally, back in the ring Alicia was able to hit the A-Bomb for the win and the title.

Next, a promo by Jazz regarding her history with Angel Orsini.

Jazz vs Angel Orsini

The match started off with both women showing their technical ability with lockups and reversals. The two women then began working on each other’s legs. Angel eventually gained the upper hand but Jazz soon gained control and the match continued to go back and forth. Angel then began working on Jazz’s arm. Jazz attempted a superkick but ended up hitting the ref, when Angel moved. Angel followed up with her finisher. However, the ref was out cold. Nikki Roxx hit the ring and nailed Orsini with her Barbie Crusher. She pulled Jazz on top of Angel and the ref made the three count.

Amber O’Neal vs. Sumie Sakai

Right off the bat, Amber started the match by stalling. However, Sumie went right after her. Amber tried to keep Sumie off her feet with submission moves. Sumie battled back but Amber raked the eyes and hit the Amber Alert for the win.

Post-match: Jazz challenged Amber to a match.

A Jennifer Cruz promo was next. She claims to have found a beautiful tag team partner.

Angelina Love & Jennifer Cruz vs Rick Cataldo & Jana

Jana and Rick Cataldo entered the ring first. Jennifer Cruz introduced Angelina Love as her partner. Why Angelina is being used in a match with Rick Cataldo is beyond me? Men do not belong in the ring with women. Period. Angelina and Jennifer won the match after about 9 minutes. Nine minutes more than Cataldo should have been given.

A Mercedes Martinez promo aired.

WSU Championship Match
Mercedes Martinez(c) vs. Awesome Kong

Kong immediately went after Mercedes but Mercedes ducked and attacked with a series of forearms. Kong then took over and beat Mercedes unmercifully. Mercedes was able to mount a comeback and hit her Fisherman’s buster for the win. Wow.
Nikki Roxx and Amber O’Neal hit the ring and attacked Martinez. Angel Orsini and Jazz came out but couldn’t help. Kong eventually nailed Roxx. Martinez shook Kong’s hand after the match.

Overall, a very enjoyable DVD. The majority of the matches were solid with Cindy Rogers v Nikki Roxx and Mercedes Martinez v Awesome Kong being the top two. Jazz vs Angel was a very close third. The promos do a great job of setting up matches (when they are done correctly, unlike the mix up with the Spirit title) and also help give some history of the feuds. I don’t understand why a promoter would book a talent like Angelina Love, only to waste her in a tag match that doesn’t allow her to showcase her talent. However, that’s not my decision. This was definitely one of the best DVDs, match for match, that I have seen from WSU
