WSU 2010 Hall of Fame March 6, 2010 ACE
Arena, Union City, New Jersey
Available at WSUWrestling.com
The DVD starts with the WSU roster making their way to ringside.
Destiny introduces the WSU Spirit Champion Alicia.
Alicia enters the ring to induct a fellow homegrown Jersey girl
to the hall of fame. Alicia gives some career highlights and talks about
how the first inductee was there on Alicias first day of training
and was there for her first match. She talks about Wrestlers Rescue
and all they have done for the professional wrestling community. Alicia
then introduces the first inductee into the 2010 WSU Hall of Fame
Dawn Marie.
Dawn Marie enters and talks about how she feels the wrestling industry
has come so far. She discusses how the wrestling industry has always been
a mans world and how difficult it has been for women to even walk
in the door. She thanks everyone and says shes looking forward to
working with everyone even when theyre wheeling her out in a wheelchair.
So Cal Val introduces WSU Tag Team Champion, Angel Orsini. Angel has the
honor of introducing someone she has known since 1997, when she started
in the business. She talks about this incredibly talented woman who was
being trained by awful people. She talks about how she knew with a little
bit of help; she would go a long way. Angel talks about how this woman
was in WM 20, won the Womens Title twice and was Hardcore Champion.
Angel then introduces Molly Holly, aka Nora Greenwold.
Nora enters the ring as the fans start a Molly chant. Molly thanks everyone
for all their support. She talks about how, when she left the WWE, she
kind of took a break. She puts over all the ladies in WSU and thanks all
the fans before saying thanks one last time.
Destiny introduces WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez. Mercedes takes
the mic and first thanks everyone for coming and supporting the women
as well as WSU. She says she had a speech written but decided to wing
it and speak from her heart. Mercedes talks about how her trainer, Jason
Knight, also helped this woman and compared Mercedes to her when she first
started training. Mercedes talks about some of the milestones the next
inductee had achieved. She held the WWE Womens Championship two
times. Mercedes introduces the third inductee into the 2010 WSU Hall of
Fame
Jazz.
Jazz comes to the ring. The crowd starts a Jazz chant. Jazz says its
an honor to be here and to be presented with this honor. She thanks everyone
involved with WSU and all the ladies there for allowing her to come to
the company. She talks about how the east coast was the birth of Jazz
and where she became what she is today before giving one final thanks
to everyone.
The women then pose in the ring for photo ops, as a very nice Hall of
Fame ceremony comes to an end.
Upon exiting the ring, Mercedes and Rain start to brawl and have to be
pulled apart by the rest of the roster at ringside.
Overall, I cant think of three women more deserving of being honored
and recognized for their contributions to the sport of professional wrestling
The DVD also comes with two bonus matches.
First up is a WSU Spirit Championship Match from 2/13/10 featuring the
champion, Alicia against Jana.
Jana attacks Alicia during the ring introductions but Alicia counters
with a series of clothesline and a sit down hip toss for a quick one count.
Jana quickly exits the ring and heads to the locker room. Alicia chases
after her and brings her back to ringside. Back in the ring, Jana applies
a camel clutch to Alicia. Alicia breaks the hold and hits a side Russian
leg seep. The two women battle back and forth until Jana hits the Jana
Vice. Alicia makes it to the ropes to break the hold. Alicia hits the
Eight Ball out of nowhere for the three count to retain the Spirit Championship.
After the match, Alicia gets on the mic and says its great to see
everyone out tonight, in the ACE Arena. She then plugs the next show and
tells the crowd if they buy their tickets tonight they will get $5 off
because she loves them all.
The second bonus match on the DVD is a WSU World Title Match from NYWC
on 2/20/10. The match features WSU Champion, Mercedes Martinez defending
the title against Sumie Sakai.
Sumie enters the ring with chair in hand. The two women lock up several
times, with neither getting a clear advantage. Mercedes is then able to
get the upper hand with a few hip tosses and a dropkick. Sumie battles
back with some choking and her patented camel clutch with hair pull. Sumie
then proceeds to bite Mercedes head while applying the camel clutch. Sumie
then works on Mercedes legs and back. Sumie with a hair mare and
some boots to the back, only to get a two count. Sumie continues to beat
down Mercedes. After several minutes of taking punishment, Mercedes is
able to mount a comeback. She works on Sumies back before hitting
a series of suplexes that lead to a brainbuster, for a two count. Sumie
fights back, chokes Mercedes and hits a moonsault on the champion for
a two count. Sumie leaves the ring to get a chair. As she enters the ring,
the ref tries to stop her, but she crotches him on the second rope. Sumie
hits Mercedes in the abs with the chair but Mercedes ducks and escapes
a chairshot to her head. Mercedes hits the fishermans buster for
the pinfall. A great match, from two excellent women wrestlers. My only
question would be why wasnt Sumie disqualified for intentionally
inflicting pain on a referee?
Overall, the DVD was very enjoyable. The Hall of Fame ceremony was nicely
done and not drawn out (as some wrestling ceremonies seem to be). The
inductees seemed genuinely honored to be there. The two bonus matches
were solid and were a nice addition to the DVD.
