Spring Tour 2010 March/April

The DVD opens with WSU champion, Mercedes Martinez defending her title against Sumie Sakai from Evolve 2: Hero v Hidaka” on 3/13 in Rahway, NJ.
This was an excellent match between two excellent wrestlers. What else would one expect? After the match, Lenny Leonard interviewed Mercedes who demanded competition.

Next up, WSU World champion Mercedes Martinez vs. WSU Spirit champion Brittney Savage. The match took place at the Impact Championship Wrestling “Reborn” show on 3/19 in Queens, NY. While the match did some set up for the “Dream Tag Match” on the next DVD, I still don’t see why Savage is pushed as much as she is.

Lucky me, another Savage bout! This time it’s WSU Spirit champion Brittney Savage facing Traci Brooks at NYWC’s “Going the Distance” event on 4/10 in Deer Park, NY. This match had no commentary, which would have at least drowned out Cataldo at ringside. If nothing else, I got to watch Traci in the ring for a few
minutes.

The next match took place at NYWC’s “April Reign” on 4/17 in Pt. Jefferson Station, NY. It saw the WSU Tag Team champions, Mercedes Martinez and Angel Orsini take on Jana and Cindy Rogers. A very good match between four very talented wrestlers. Of course Rick Cataldo at ringside was a bit of an annoyance and involvement by Savage was disappointing. There was no commentary but the match was quite enjoyable.

In the final match of this Best of Britney DVD, err Spring Tour 2010, WSU Spirit champion Brittney Savage faced off against Niya. This match took place in Atco, NJ on 4/24. Again, there was no commentary and the match was shot in a “fan cam” style.

Spring Tour 2010 May/June: Road to Uncensored Rumble 3

This second DVD is a part two to the previous one. This one covers those matches that WSU had, in May and June, on cards other than their own.
First up, from “Evolve 3: Rise or Fall” event, Rahway, NJ on 5/1, WSU World champion Mercedes Martinez vs. Brittney Savage. The match was short and Mercedes did her best to make Savage look good. Post match interview with Mercedes who tells Evolve management that she wants Awesome Kong.

The Dream Tag Team Match is next. The bout saw WSU World champion Mercedes Martinez team with Alicia to face WSU Spirit champion Brittney Savage and Velvet Sky. The match, which took place at ICW’s “The Aftermath” on 5/15 in Queens, NY, was refereed by Traci Brooks. This time, commentary was done by Joel Gertner and Jimmy Gentry. An entertaining match, minus Rick Cataldo, for the most part. Mercedes and Alicia did a good job of keeping the heat between them while working as a team.

Up next was a Grudge Match between Angel Orsini and one half of the WSU Tag Team champions, Jana. This match took place at the NYWC “Incident on 57th Street” event in Woodside, NY on 6/5. There was no commentary for this bout. Overall, the match was decent but would have been so much better had the constant ringside antics of Savage and Cataldo been limited (or eliminated all together).

WSU World champion Mercedes Martinez teamed up once again with Alicia to battle the Belle Saints (Tina San Antonio and Marti Belle) from ACE Underground on 6/12. The match, for the most part, was a short squash match. Post match, Alicia reminded Mercedes about the match they were set to have in two weeks for her belt. Savage tried to interrupt and I had all I could do to not hit the fast forward button.

The next bout was from NYWC’s “Straight Outta Hollis” in Deer Park, NY on 6/19. That’s right, NYWC held a show in Deer Park and felt calling it “Straight Outta Hollis” was a good idea. This match saw WSU World champion Mercedes Martinez take on Brittney Savage in a Bullrope Match. The story that was being told had great potential. In a nutshell, Savage came out and told the crowd that after she took out Martinez with her bull rope and a car attack that she was the new champion via forfeit. The referee was counting out Mercedes when she came out for the match. In order to stall for as long as possible, Savage forced Mercedes to wrestle Jana, then Cataldo. My head is spinning.

If you are a fan of Brittney Savage, you are going to love these DVD’s. Nearly every match has Savage featured in one way or another. Unfortunately, for those of us who are not huge fans of hers, there are only a few matches that don’t involve her. To Savage’s credit, she is a hell of a lot better at being a heel than she was a face. However, she needs a lot more work on her in ring skills before she is going to win me over. The other matches were all solid, although some were a bit short. It is always great to see Sumie and Traci in the ring as well as Jana, Cindy, Mercedes and Angel.
