Davey Richards
After defeating Scott Lost in a phenomenal first round match
up, then beating Milano Collection AT in the semi finals. Davey Richards
beat Charlie Haas in the finals to become the 2006 ECWA Super 8 Champion.
Congratulations Davey, and thanks for some incredible matches yesterday!!
1. What made you decide to get involved in professional
wrestling?
Ive been a fan along time, a promoter talk to me at a MMA event and told
me about the Powerplant (or WWA4 as it was turned into) and I felt it
was meant to be. Then Tony Kozina trained further when I moved back to
the Pacific Northwest.
2. Prior to being invited to participate in this year's Super 8 had
you heard about it? What were your thoughts regarding the tournament?
I had heard alot about from Tony Kozina and reading about it and it was
always a goal for me to be apart of the Super 8, and Im very lucky to
have the oppurtunity to now do so.
3. You are a participant in this years' ECWA Super 8 Tournament. What
was your reaction when earning that spot in such a prestigious tournament?
It was a tremendous feeling to be part of tradition and prestige of the
Super 8, It was very surreal feeling to look at the caller ID and see
"Kettner" on the LED screen when I recieved the call. I feel
very, very lucky to be in the tournament.
4. Any thoughts on how you'll prepare physically for three possible
matches in the Super 8?
Tons of drills, and tape study of my potential opponets.
5. What do you want people to think of when they hear your name?
Just a good all around wrestler that someone that represents wrestling
well, a athlete that takes his job serioulsy.
6. If you could step in the ring with or against anyone (alive or dead)
who would it be? Why?
Wow, so many names i guess the top few would be Chris Beniot,
Dynamite Kid, and any of the original 4 Horsemen just becasue these were
all the wrestlers that awed me then and now and without them and thier
inspiration there would be no Davey Richards.
7. How has the wrestling business changed since you started? Has it
changed for the better or worse?
Well, I havent been wrestling long enough to see any drastic
changes. but ive seen both sides of the horizon. I think too many people
are in the wrestling scene, guys that dont take it serioulsy, dont look
like athletes, or guys that watching them it seems more liie gymnastics
than a fight. on the other hand thier's so many guys that are just truly
amazing like American Dragon, Samoa Joe, Ki, ect. ect. ect. so wrestling
can only get better and better with these guys leading the charge.
8. What is the best thing you've been a part of, or even not been a
part of, in the wrestling business?
The best thing thus far, has been being a part of the Pro
wrestling Guerrilla locker room, ive learned so much from all the guys
there and theyve given me so many oppurtuities to improve as a wrestler.
9. What has been your most memorable moment so far as a wrestler?
Probably the 25 hour drives me and Tony Kozina used to make all the time
to wrestle in California, wrestling in Socal has been the greatest, the
crwods there are awesome, so combine that with Kozina's craziness and
you have some memroable times. A single moment would be probably evreytime
I achieved a goal I set out for myself in wrestling, the Super 8 was a
huge one.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully healthy, still putting on good wrestling matches and fighting
hard.
