Well, hello; and welcome to the latest update of my column.
Kicking off things this time, is the news that WWE have released 3 of
their more known members of the roster. A-Train, Billy Gunn; and Test
are no longer employed with the WWE, so I figured I'd take a little look
at their options at this point and speculate a little.
It's fair to say the Jarrett's at TNA could well be scrambling around
looking for the Panda chequebook. Or is it? A-Train, is at best; an average
brawler. I actually feel he has/had a bit of potential vocally, but in
ring he really isn't particularly inspiring. Billy Gunn, realistically;
ceased to be relevant when D-X split up. And Test? Well, this is the wild
card. Test can talk, and isn't THAT bad a worker; with youth still seemingly
on his side somewhat. The fact he was released, does make you wonder about
his quite known relationship with Shane McMahon on many levels; or maybe
just Shane's position in the WWE hierarchy these days.
Not that they ever seemingly had a clue what to do with Test creatively,
but it had got worse and then far worse as time had progressed. TNA is
seemingly the only option for all three, as you can't see them particularly
fitting in with any other higher priority indy promotions. A-Train in
RoH? Billy Gunn in CZW? Enough said. Maybe the high profile indy cards
might provide a few pence in the bank balance, but you have to wonder
where all three go from here.
And that really does get you to thinking. Not that I can really imagine,
but after being on the road with the WWE for the amount of time these
three have; how do you adapt to NOT being? It must be a pretty dramatic
change in lifestyle. I could almost imagine a nervous breakdown of sorts,
either from the stress that must have built up over the years being let
go; or from going from the bright lights all the way back down again knowing
odds on being re-hired must be remarkably slim. These are the kind of
things that people really overlook in situations like this.
On an unrelated note, I'd like to put over the company I'm mainly working
for these days - Revolution British Wrestling (www.revolutionbritishwrestling.co.uk).
We have a show in my hometown of Luton, England on November 20th; which
is to raise money for the health of my mother in law and I want to sincerely
thank them for their help and support in this. It's been a strange three
months since I first had the idea, and I've learnt a lot about this crazy
misunderstodd business in that time that I really didn't think I could
have. I thought that 17 years watching, and the last 4 or so involved
at the level I have been in the business had got me prepared for it; but
there's a lesson to be learned - you never know everything about anything,
no matter how much you think you do. In fact, the truth is that you'd
better be prepared to realise how much you didn't know and it's how you're
able to adapt to this that is what counts at the end.
A lot of people don't get the chance to live some of their dream the way
I have and do. I count my blessings for what I have, and the opportunities
that keep coming my way. The people I get to meet in person, or purely
to speak to online via instant message and email; it's quite amazing when
you sit down and think about it. Because all in all, when you stop loving
what you do and appreciating what you have; then it has to be time to
walk away. Thankfully, I don't see that day coming anytime soon for me.
On a final note, I'd like to ask you to visit my new website www.pswrestling.net.
If not for me, do it for Jimmie; my webmaster - and the amount of hard
work he's put in just for me and my ramblings. I know some very classy
people in this business, and Jimmie is top drawer.
