What? Another column this soon? Yeah, I know, I even shocked
myself! But I thought I had to share the events of my weekend with you
all, so here goes.
As you know, I've been managing for ACW here in the UK. I was also fired
in late November of last year. On the 28th January 2006, it was the first
show of the year for ACW; and I had a nice surprise for everyone there.
Standing backstage, a lot of the boys wanted to know why I was there,
but I wasn't about to tell. The element of surprise is a wonderful thing!
As the show started, I'd managed to sneak in a word with the ring announcer,
and I'd also given my music to the guy doing the sound (who happened to
be a friend of mine, and was a little bit 'in' on what I was about to
do). My new entrance music hits ("Bounce", by my favourite band
Bon Jovi), and I'm off to the ring to cause more trouble than usual....even
by MY standards.
"For those of you who didn't know, I'm not meant to be here right
now; in fact, I'm not meant to be here at all".....
I then go on to inform the ACW crowd (around 120 people in attendance)
that yours truly, 'The Internet Icon' Peter Staniforth, is the new owner
of ACW; with a controlling 51 percent stake in the company. And no, the
fans weren't one bit happy about it - which is just how I like it!
So, I went backstage and sat around for a few minutes, amused at the reaction.
During the first match, I thought I needed to exert my new found authority;
so I went to ringside and had a 'little word' in the ear of one of our
younger wrestlers. What did I say? I can't tell you that, but he soon
refused to tag in, and turned on his tag team partner leaving some very
angry people in the ring and in the crowd. Life's fun, when you're the
boss!
I figured I'd done enough for the moment, and just sat around and watched
the rest of the show intently. But then, come the main event, it was time
to play one last joker card for the evening. Current ACW Heavyweight Champion
Samson, has been causing me problems for months, going back to when I
was managing. So I came out, just as he and ex-ACW champion DOA were about
to lock up, and announced that I was changing the rules - it would be
a lumberjack match, and I had personally handpicked the lumberjacks.
The crowd at this point were not at ALL happy, forcing me to a) shout,
and b) inform them, that if they didn't shut up then I would stop the
show there and then, take MY ring down and go the hell home. The match
went on, once I'd introduced the lumberjacks, and to my utter shock and
frustration; Samson managed to retain the ACW Heavyweight Title - for
now. My mood was not improved by certain ACW wrestlers including Bull
Harley and Inferno coming down to defend Samson physically, once my boys
had decided to lose the battle but win the war by attacking him after
the decision.
The next ACW show is scheduled for Feb 17th, in Marston Mortaine, and
it's entitled 'Hell To Pay'. I can personally assure you, the reader,
that there will be. For more details, you can visit the website at www.acwrestling.co.uk.
I've had enough people try to hold me down in this business, and those
times are over now. But I'll tell you one thing..... it sure feels nice
to be 'boss'.
