It saddens me to see that the wrestling business is no different overseas
than it is hear. Full of scum and promoters who just want to pass the
blame. Peter, I'm behind you 100%! - Brett
Well, it's been a little while, and it's time to sit down
and write another installment of the column that causes more grief on
UK message boards and forums everywhere - 'Foreign Object'.
I don't like to start bitter, but it seems that now two of those kayfabe
destroying places hate me now in the UK; even giving out my email address
to encourage people to send me email of questionable content. A little
message for these people - Thanks for reading, I appreciate the hits!
In all seriousness, I still can't work out how someone who writes on a
message board with his friends considers his opinion more important than
people who write for websites; but that's the self righteous attitude
of some people these days I guess. I won't worry too much, though, because
no-one who's opinion really matters reads those things anyway!
Anyways, on with more important things; I just wanted to get the negativity
out of the way to begin with. CZW are first on my list of topics, with
the return of their hardcore ways and the 'Ultraviolent Underground'.
I would say congratulations are in order, for the promotion who does it
best being able to once again return to their hardcore ways; and also
doing it in a fresh different manner. Vince gets one match on a ppv that
will most likely suck anyway, and CZW get to run matches like that on
a regular basis....now who's the clever negotiator there?! On one final
CZW note, congratulations to my friend Mike Quackenbush on gaining another
belt for his collection - the CZW Jr. Heavyweight title. Mike is as nice
a person as he is talented, and truly deserves it.
TNA are on my agenda here too, seeing as last night was their latest ppv.
Firstly, I'm told there was a sign that was close to my heart, of how
'BBQ Sauce Eating Oklahomans Fear Mike Tenay'. Mike is the best commentator
in the business bar NONE, so it's good to see people appreciate him. AJ
Styles and Chris Daniels did what everyone expected, and stole the show;
and whilst they have a lot of love from people online - it must be said
just how great these two are. They're capable of pretty much anything
it seems, seperately or working against each other; and I just want to
go on record as thanking them for what they do. They're capable of taking
a wrestling spirit that's jaded, and making it feel like wrestling is
the most exciting sport (screw your 'sports entertainment' Vince) around
again. And for that, they deserve our appreciation.
TNA also brought back Billy Gunn, or whatever he'll end up changing to;
and Sean Waltman. In the case of Billy, let's hope he can give something
to the product in what will I would imagine be one last go around at a
higher level. And Sean? I just hope this is the precursor to his sorting
his life out, and being in the headlines for the right reasons. With no
bad feeling meant, I'm sick of reading his name next to Joanie Laurer's,
and would love to see just a flash of the talent and desire he had when
he first broke in as The Lightening Kid and had matches against Sabu that
I still watch today.
I don't normally promote my interviews via this column, but if you haven't
read my recent interview with Mana, The Polynesian Warrior; I would encourage
you to do so to find out more about a very talented and interesting man
who is well worth the read. Well, for now and for this time; you've reached
the end of my column. I'll see you all next time, and keep safe and be
good.
