Modern Day Singles Wrestler
Jerry Lynn has been one of wrestling's best kept secrets for several years. Making a name for himself on the independent circuit, Lynn criss-crossed America, and the world, making stops in several of the top wrestling territories. Lynn's first major exposure came while wrestling in Jerry Jarrett's CWA promotion based out of Memphis. Lynn left Memphis for the Mid West where he primarily competed on indy shows in Minnesota and Michigan. It was while competing in the Minneapolis-based Pro Wrestling America promotion that Lynn first gained critical recognition for his high-flying matches with Sabu and the Lightning Kid (aka Sean Waltman). From there, Lynn moved onto World Championship Wrestling, donning a mask and going by the name Mr JL. He faced Sabu at Halloween Havoc '95, one of the few PPV appearances he made while in WCW. After being mindlessly misused, Lynn left WCW and came to ECW. Competing primarily in tag-team matches his first few months, Lynn gained glowing praise from hardcore fans for his fantastic feud with Rob Van Dam. A well-travelled veteran, Lynn has toured Japan several times, incorporating aspects of Japanese Puroresu with an accomplished mat game and an aerial assault. The list of titles Jerry Lynn has held includes:On January 24, 1990, Lynn defeated Johnny Love for the PWA (Pro Wrestling America) Light Heavyweight title in Red Wing, MN. Lynn beat Ricky Rice in Fridley, MN for the PWA title on August 12, 1990. Lynn claimed his second PWA Light Heavyweight title on January 14, 1991 by defeating the Lightning Kid (X-Pac). Lynn pinned the Lightning Kid on December 27, 1991 for the GWF/PWA Light Heavyweight title. Lynn and the Lightning Kid captured the PWA Tag Team title on March 2, 1993 by defeating Tony Denucci and Tommy Ferrera. At Anarchy Rulz 2000 in St. Paul, MN, Lynn pinned Justin Credible to capture the ECW World Heavyweight title. Lynn made his WWF television debut on the April 29, 2001 episode of "Sunday Night Heat" in Chicago, IL. He pinned Crash Holly for the WWF Light Heavyweight title. On July 3, 2002, Lynn and Styles defeated the Rainbow Express (Lenny Lane and Bruce) to capture the NWA World Tag Team title in Nashville, TN. At the August 21, 2002 NWA TNA PPV taping in Nashville, TN, Lynn won a three way dance over Low Ki and Styles to win the X division title. On November 6, 2002, Lynn pinned Styles to regain the X division title. Lynn and the Amazing Red defeated Elix Skipper and Christopher Daniels on April 16, 2003 for the NWA World Tag Team title. On May 21, 2003, Lynn won a tournament to win the WWA (World Wrestling All-Stars) Cruiserweight title in Sydney, Australia. On January 16, 2004 in Oolitic, IN, Lynn pinned Danny Daniels to capture the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight title. (Written by Brett Schwan) ------- |
