John Brooks1. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler? JB- I was like most other workers. I had been watching wrestling for some time before I decided that it may be something that I wanted to try. It wasn't until I saw Sean Waltman (X-Pac, Syxx, 123 Kid, Lightning Kid) on television. His WWF push as 123 Kid opened the doors for lightweights across the country. 2. Who trained you, how did you go about finding them? JB- It was hard to find a Wrestling School in my area. At the time, Connecticut was a dead spot as far as promotions and Schools were concerned. One day, after not having any luck finding a school close by, I got in touch with Paul Roma. Roma really put over Fred Yale and Bert Centeno's school that was due to open any day in CT. After some time of checking and making sure Fred and Bert were both legit, I enrolled and started training to become a proffesional wrestler. Since then I have trained with Les Thatcher, Harley Race, The Hart Family (Bruce and Ross) Frank Murdock and have attended some of the Crazy CHIKARA clinics held by Mike Quackenbush. 3. Was the training all that you expected? Was it harder than you
thought it would be? 4. What promotions do you/have you worked for? JB- I have worked for NAWF (CT), OMEGA-MADE (SC), CWF-Mid Atlantic (NC), NWA-FL (FL), NWA-NE (MA), ECPW (CT), MWF (MA), CHIKARA PRO (PA), PHW (MA), PLW (RI), APWF (MA), CAC (NV), APW (RI), ACW (CT) numerous others, to many to list. 5. What has been your most memorable moment in the sport thus far? JB- I have been lucky over the years. I have worked with so many great guys. I think it would be unfair to pick just one match or moment. There are ones that stick out for different reasons, however I have been blessed to work with the top guys from each territory that I have worked in. 6. What do you like most about being a professional wrestler? What do you like least? JB- I love to wrestle. I know that I am not going to do it forever. I could leave it all behind tommorrow and know that I had fun at it while it lasted. I hate the fact that Very few wrestlers of today have any "in ring" ability. Most are put on a show because they can flip around or are willing to take a hardcore bump. Very few know how to work someone else any more. 7. What wrestlers do you try to emulate? JB- I don't emulate anyone. I may have the same transition's as some of my close buddies in the business, because we have worked together so much, but I am John Brooks and I try to make each match as enjoyable as I can with my own work. Not other's. 8. What is the biggest misconception people have about pro wrestling and those involved? JB-I choose not to get into this right now. 9. When not wrestling, what do you do in yo ur spare time? JB- I am a model and actor so I spend alot of time working with that. 10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? JB- I really can't say. It depends on what happens over the course of the next few months. Time will tell. Thanks for having me! check out my site at www.john-brooks.com |
