John has been kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to answer 10 Questions for the Wrestling Clothesline. To learn more about John, check out his site at http://hurricanejohnwalters.com/. 1. What made you decide to get involved in professional wrestling? Professional wrestling has always been one of my hobbies. As I grew older, the more and more it occupied my mind. I decided that I was going to attend wrestling school after college. I was playing football and had a pretty hectic academic schedule. My junior year, I had to stop playing football because I had throat surgery and was not cleared to play until the majority of the year was over. This is when I decided to start training early. On January 27, 2001, I began training at Killer Kowalski's wrestling school in Malden, MA. 2. You have worked for promotions across the country, including WWE
and NWA TNA. How were your experiences in the WWE and NWA TNA? How were
you contacted to work for them? 3. You are a participant in this years' ECWA Super 8 Tournament. What was your reaction when earning that spot in such a prestigious tournament? When I first started wrestling, I set a few goals for myself, both short term and long term. One of those goals was to participate in the Super 8 tournament. This tourey has made independent wrestlers breakout stars. I am thrilled and honored to be a part of it this year. 4. Any thoughts on how you'll prepare physically for three possible matches in the Super 8? I wrestled in a similar tournament last summer in Maine. It was a New England super 8 tournament and I advanced to the finals. My matches lasted about 15-20 mins each in a high school gym on a 90 degree day. That was very tough on my body but I made it and have no doubt that I can make it through three matches if need be on April 3rd. I will pick up my cardio a bit until then, but will keep my training the same for the most part. 5. Having been in the buisness only 4 years do you think that helps or hinders you when you go into a tournament, such as the Super 8, where 5 of the participants have been in the business for 7 years or more? I bellieve that experience is not as important as attitude. I have the desire to win and the will to give my all that night. All 7 of the other guys are in there for a reason as am I. Anybody can win on a given night. It will come down to who wants it more, and I am very hungry. 6. If you could step in the ring with or against anyone (alive or dead) who would it be? Why? I can not name just one person. There are several wrestlers who I would love to get in the ring with. Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, etc. All of these guys are great technicians and I feel as though they would be the biggest challenges possible to someone like me. It would be an honor to be in the same ring with them. 7. How has the wrestling business changed since you started? Has it changed for the better or worse? THe wrestling business hasn't changed a whole lot since I started. The main thing I have noticed in wrestling since i have started is the way I watch it. I watch more now to learn instead of cheering or booing the wrestlers. You look at it in a whole different light once you have done it. In terms of the actual product, the element of surprise seems to be missing. Without competition, its as though the fans arent on the edge of their seats as much. The internet also has a lot to do with that. 8. What has been your most memorable moment in the business thus far? My most memorable moments so far are: my first match, my first wwe match and being selected into the Super 8 tourament. 9. Who have been some of your favorite people to step into the ring with? Why? Luis Ortiz, Homicide, Slyk Wagner Brown, CM punk, Matt Stryker, etc. I love wrestling most of my opponents but these guys are very cooperative and easy to wrestle. Sometimes, when you just go out and wreste, it makes for better matches, and that's what I do with these guys. There are very professional in and out of the ring. 10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
