women's wrestling, is pleased to present our latest 10 Questions With...
Kacee Carlisle!
-------
1. What made you decide to get involved in professional wrestling?
When I was eight years old, my sister was watching wrestling on tv and
invited me to watch with her. As soon as I started watching, I was hooked,
and it ended up being the one thing I was truly passionate about in my
life. I spent all the free time I had watching it, reading about it, collecting
magazines, tapes, etc. I dreamed of being a wrestler, and now, here I
am.
2. Who trained you? What was your training routine like?
I was/am trained by Shorty Smalls, with the assistance of countless others
along the way. My training has been a continuous thing over the years.
I actually still train as often as I can, though it's still not as much
as I'd like. Shorty is like me, an old-school style worker. He teaches
the basics first, then moves on to more complex/advanced things. If you
can't do a hammerlock, what's the sense in being able to do a moonsault?
3. What promotions have you worked for?
NWL, HoPWF, WXW, UCW, VCW, WWW, WWC, WVPW
4. What promotions have been your favorites to work for? Any least
favorites?
I've enjoyed all of them very much. I have a lot of friends in the NWL/HoPWF
and UCW, and their shows are always fun for me. I also very much enjoy
working for WXW, the amount of talent they have is ridiculous, and again,
everybody is so professional and easy to work with. The knowledge I've
gained working for them is priceless to me. But really, I can't name just
one favorite, they're all great.
5. As a woman in a predominately male sport, are you ever treated
differently by promoter or other wrestlers?
Not at all. Everybody is always very respectful and professional. If anything
(and in my experiences), people are sometimes more careful about making
sure the ladies have a private place to change, are respected by everybody
involved in the show, and have a place to sell merchandise, do Polaroids,
etc. I like to think that these days, everybody realizes that the women
work just as hard as the guys do, and we are all workers in the same business,
busting our ass, with the same goals, regardless of gender.
6. Who have been some of your favorite people to step into the ring
with or against?
I've enjoyed the matches I've had with Lorelei Lee, Jana, and Mercedes
Martinez the most. I've learned something from every match I've had, and
all my opponents have been awesome, but I especially liked the matches
with those ladies.
7. When you aren't wrestling, what do you like to do?
I try to spend a lot of time with my family, playing cards or games, or
just hanging out. I also like shopping, being outdoors, and I love taking
pictures of everything and everything. Other than that, I'm usually watching
old wrestling tapes, or something having to do with it. It's my life.
8. What do you think of the current state of indy wrestling, women's
wrestling in particular?
I think the business is starting to see a bit of an upswing, and whenever
that happens, it's something positive for the business as a whole. Women's
wrestling is going strong, and gaining momentum and fans every day. Lately
I've noticed an increase in the number of all-women shows, and I think
that's a good thing. I think people are still hesitant about being fans
of women's wrestling, since it's been looked at as a gimmick match, or
"special attraction" for so long. People don't normally think
of women being able to put on a match that lasts longer than five minutes,
or that's not a bra and panties match. But hopefully once they see how
hard all the ladies work, and what we're capable of, they'll become fans
and support women's wrestling.
9. If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
If anything, I would start wrestling at an earlier age. I had the chance
to, but didn't because my schedule was so wacky, and because of my own
personal hangups. But I'm happy to be doing it now, and I've had the chance
to see so many cool places and meet so many cool people.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully still wrestling. In a perfect world, I would hopefully be signed
to the WWE. Really isn't that everybody's goal? Realistically though,
I know that I have several things working against me. I'm not as young
as many of the ladies today, and I know I don't have the "WWE look".
But in 5 years, if I'm healthy, happy, and still involved in the business
in some way, I'll be content with that. At least I'm getting to live my
childhood dream.
