Ten Questions With . . .

Kenny Casanova

1. Why did you decide to get involved with professional wrestling?

I got fired from McDonalds...

2. What promotions have you worked for? Which have been your favorites?

Federations include ring announcer spots with the WWF on 2 seperate occasions, and many appearances with WOHW, TSW, WWA, NEW, NMW, MWA, NWA VT (Gren Mountain), USA, NCW, NCCW, NAWA, NDW, NGW, EWF, USWF, UWA, UWF, WPW, USWF, USWL, NBW, ESW, EASTERN SHORES, CWF, TOMMY DEE's, NEW DIMENSION, LIWF, Atlantic States and AWF... There are some other nifty but shifty promotions that I can not think of at the moment and others I have only worked for a few times. Check out KennyCasanova.com for more info.

WOHW is the one that I have had the most exposure on and I do a lot behind the scenes promoting. I commentate, manage and book. It's not really my fed, but I love it. I'm insane. It pushes the envelope, but still stays a family show.

3. You are primarily known for your managing skills, do you (or have you) ever had the desire to step in the ring and wrestle?

I actually have and did. Though I started in 1994, On Aug 15th, 1999 Wrestled first match in a mask facing former ally "The Jackmaster" John Diamond under a mask as "The Jive Turkey" Jimmy Giblets. I have participated in many battleroyals; winning some, losing many. And I have held three womens championship straps to date (one I will note as Kendra Casanova -in drag.) I also occasionally tag team with another manager Marty The Party Vain.

4. You have managed a long list of people. Who have been some of your favorite people to manage? Who have you been most successful with?

Wrestlers I have managed that you may be familiar with are King Kong Bundy, Rocco Rock, Danger, Big Dick Dudley, Tom Brandi, Gillberg, Miss Deville, HC Loc & Devito, Jeff Starr, Demolition Ax, Brody Lee, Bam Bam Bigelo, Pat Tanaka, Metal Maniac, Rick Fuller, Tony Roy, Nick Neighborhood, Diablo Santiago, Buttery Bert Williams, Nick Barberi... you can see more of "Camp Casanova" on kennycasanova.com.

One of my most successful relationships has been with Danger (aka Dave Danger, Dave DeJohn) who has appeared numerous times on WWE TV. We are from the same area and I have managed many a match with him. We have also founded our own federation (WOHW) that has been running successfully at least once a month (sometimes four times) since 1998.

5. What is the hardest thing about being a manager? Many people think it just requires you to stand at ringside and do nothing.

Getting a tough crowd into a boring match without stealing heat. In otherwords, keeping everything interesting while at the same time, not stealing from the magic in the ring.

I think I am pretty good with timing now, but my buddy (whom I trained) Marty The Party Vain -still really sucks.

6. What has been your most memorable moment in the sport thus far?

It's a bizarre story that I don't often answer with the truth, but I figure this time -ah, what the hell. At the end of a bout in NBW, I believe it was Tony Devito as a face taking on my man "Jackmaster" John Diamond of the Pittsburgh Steel Team. Diamond (no relation to Neil) had just lost and both wrestlers had left the ring while I continued to argue with the official. I was supposed to be power-bombed by a referee named Hotbod Todd Taylor. Through the whole match, I was giving him problems and he was going to finish me off after shoving him around.

It started well as planned. He was worried that he couldn't lift my sandbag ass into the air and I told him I would post a little off his knees to make it an easier lift for him. Well, it was easier than he thought. He got me right up, and the momentum of ease startled him so that he lost grip somewhere above his head. Then I kind'a fell behind him so we both went down. The audience knew it wasn't right. Todd was embarrassed. I was chuckling at his side.

He says to me on the mat, "They are chanting 'You Suck!' to me -and I'm the face! Get up and do a move. There's nothing I can do! They will know I screwed up if I do it again!"

So I stumbled to my feet and thought a second to myself, how can I get over and fix this with a simple move? Then I smiled and said ever so softly, "Bare Ass Earthquake."

And he was like ... "...no..."

I'll never forget the look of his helpless face as I uttered the spot.

During practice, I did an Earthquake splash once on a dummy, but mooned just before executing it to get a pop from the boys. The guys I were training with were rolling in laughter. So, in a move of desperation I decided that this spot maybe the only thing that could save the ref's mistake.

I got up and did the stomps ala Earthquake, hit the ropes, mooned and dropped on the ref's chest. The crowd died laughing. Here is a clip for the strong of stomach.

B.A. Earthquake...

I fixed the spot, but Todd's ref shirt will never be the same.

7. Who are your favorite managers in the business (past or present)? Is there anyone that you try to emulate at all?

I think I emulate Capt Lou's weird references, Jimmy Hart's musical influences and maybe a little bit of Slick.

8. If you were to get into a debate with Jim Cornette and/or Bobby Heenan.. how do you think you would fare?

I would probably back off on differences in issue, because these guys rock. However, I would tend to think I would agree with htem on a lot of topics, being as I have an old school mentality. The heel shoul always lose in the end. This they would arguably both agree. But unfortunately, today's bad guy is all attitude and not willing to "look dumb". Bobby Heenan took hundreds of crazy bumbs, messing up his back to get over the OLD SCHOOL mentality, as did Cornette.

9. What is the best and worst thing about being in the wrestling business?

The best is trying new stuff and seeing it works. A big part of my character is comedy -making the opponent look good at my expense. It's great when I can get them over and make a few faces happy doing so.

10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully off the wrestling cicuit and finally achieving the goal i talked breifly of in question #1... working once again in a McDonalds.
