Review of BWO Show, Saturday, August 30, 2003
by Lawrence Kleber

As ususal, Richie Rotten provided an action packed evening of wrestling
on Saturday, August 30, 2003 in Garfield, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the
crowd was light due to Labor Day weekend, but the matches were as
exciting as ever. Rob Payes, of Verbal Abuse, was on his own tonight,
since his vocal partner, Tommy Hunter, opted for a weekend at the beach.

The show began with owner Glen introducing Ricky O. of JCW. Ricky
informed the fans that JCW and BWO will be producing some joint shows in
the near future and the first one will take place on October 11 at the
Knights of Columbus in Lodi, New Jersey.

Match 1 As always, the card opened with a battle royal with 12
combatants. The large Darksyde took the win.

Match 2 In a hysterical 3 way dance, Brian Beeker, hailing from
Ontario, Canada?, took on Rush and Archadia, who came over and hugged me.
Later I discovered he was doing a gay angle! Beeker started with, “I am
the greatest specimen in all of wrestling today.” Very funny, Brian.
The match included some loud chops by Beeker on Rush, Beeker’s face
ending up in Archadia’s rear end, a double drop kick by Rush and Archadia
to Beeker’s head and a power bomb by Beeker. After a number of fast
reversals, Beeker won the match by pin fall.

Match 3 Dynamite Kabuki pinned Dan the Man with his foot on the rope.
Good spots included Dan hitting Kabuki with the stick, a missed suicide
dive by Kabuki and a heavy clothesline by Dan the Man. Dan always puts
on a good match and Kabuki is improving since I first saw him a squash
match with the Metal Maniac.

Match 4 With a surprising conclusion, Jason Static pinned Roach (aka
Corvis Fear) following a Luger torture rack melting into a body slam.
Roach came to the ring through the crowd. After being checked for
foreign objects by referee Mike, Roach demanded that Static be checked.
Roach then tied Static up in the ropes and delivered a good drop kick.
He used a step over toe hold to move into a figure four, where he had to
imitate Ric Flair! There was a nice Indian death lock by Static, which
was reversed by Roach. Following the pin, Roach hung onto the referee,
finally exiting through the crowd saying, “I don’t care. I’m leaving.”
You can always be sure of an entertaining match from Roach.

Match 5 The popular Justin Cage took on the always improving Justin
Toxicated. Rob Payes wondered, “Who’s the ref, Justin Timberlake?”
Seriously, this was a fast match, with lots of action on the floor.
Unfortunately, the action was interrupted by Ricky O., doing his
obnoxious heel persona, the lovely Becky Baylass, and the clown prince of
wrestling, Shawn Sheridan. Ricky delivered chops to the Justins and they
were finished off by Sheridan. Ricky also executed a superior belly to
belly suplex and kicked the ref out of the ring. He informed that crowd
that he was with “the best wrestler in Sheridan, the best looking girl in
Becky, and the best sheet writer (me) in the business”. Thanks, Rick!
He kept telling Mike the Ref, who was manning the food stand, as opposed
to Mike who was doing the referee job for the evening, “Keep selling that
soda!”
Match 6 This segued into a very funny match between Sheridan and
Browlik. Shawn’s antics included pointing to the “No Smoking” sign and
exclaiming “Richie Rotten asks for no smoking during a Sheridan match”,
handing me a half eaten Hostess Snowball, getting poked in the eye twice
by Browlik and imitating Jimmy “Huss” Jacobs from last week’s JCW J-Cup.
Sheridan also tried to take my place as writer. I think he wanted me to
face Browlik! Not in a million years, Shawn! The match concluded with a
Sheridan pin and Ricky O. screaming, “We’re gonna kick the BWO out of the
building”.

Match 7 In a rookie match, Chris Stiles pinned Buzz Bentley following
a back breaker. There was lots of science in the match and Bentley’s cry
baby persona is very appealing. Stiles was a fine straight man for
Bentley’s antics.

Match 8 The popular Section 8 made New Wave (also supposedly from
Canada), with Brian Beeker, submit with the boot camp crab. New Wave and
Beeker had had a feud last month and Wave asked that they bury the
hatchet. By the end of the match, they were going at each other with
Brian doing a face turn and exclaiming “Canada sucks!” As I’ve written
on numerous occasions, Section 8 really goes over big with the fans and
having skillful guys like New Wave and Beeker as his adversaries only
made the match that much better.

Following intermission, Lady Rage called out Glen to demand a rematch
with Rebecca Pain. Rebecca was a little too fast on the stick, but a
match was signed for the next show and the guys from the locker room came
out to break up the cat fight!

Match 9 The Off Brothers, Jerk and Jack, with Whack at ringside took
on Joey the Bull with his new partner Gavin Quest. Joey’s previous
running mates, Chris Idol and Eric Cooper, have taken off for “greener
pastures”. Jerk pinned Gavin when Gavin accidently knocked Joey off the
apron. During an argument between Joey and Gavin, Tommy Face came out
and teamed with Joey to bury Gavin.

Match 10 Richie Rotten, with Big Daddy Badd, was pinned for the
first time in his career by Chaos. This was a rather scientific match
for the usually hard core Richie, but it had its humorous moments. Rich
called Chaos a “Richie Rotten Wanna Be” and ended the science with a
foreign object to the eyes. Rich said that he would fight the match
without Big Daddy in his corner, but in mid-match, he rolled out of the
ring and cried out for Big Daddy Badd. “I don’t need you. I just wanted
to make sure that you are back there.” Another funny spot featured
Richie demonstrating illegal holds to the ref on Chaos.

Match 11 In an entertaining tag match featuring a lot of pulling down
of pants, Darksyde and Danny Yamz defeated the Elm Street Kids, Psycho
and Rayza, when Darksyde pinned Rayza.

Match 12 The dastardly Rhode Island Elite kept their tag titles when
Mike, following a super 360, hit Eddie Thomas, of Team Thomas, with the
Rhode Island flag. Eddie Thomas has just recovered from an injury. I
wish him the best.

Match 13 Tommy Face, with Joey the Bull, squashed Scotty B., who was
doing a John Cena imitation. Tommy stole my notebook and shouted, “I was
supposed to face Jack Brodie”.

Match 14 Heavyweight champ Jack Brodie, with Big Daddy Badd, faced
the 120 pound Tek in what should have been a squash match. It turned out
to be a very funny match with the ref first wishing Tek good luck. Tek
said, “Basically I’m gonna lose. Are you OK with this, Brodie?” Brodie
asked, “Do you quit?”, to which Tek replied, “Maybe later!” During the
match, Big Daddy kept yelling, “Jack, the beer is getting warm.” In
mid-match, Jack took Tek all the way to the food stand. Later, Tommy
Face hit Jack with a pie pan concluding in a pin by Tek! Richie Rotten
came out to overturn the decision, but 13-year-old Owner Glen asked Rich,
“Who do you think you are, Junior?” The match was restarted and Brodie
pinned Tek quickly. Mike the Ref interfered and received a DDT from
Rich.

The BWO shows are the best value on the independent Jersey scene. The
small room allows for lots of interaction between wrestlers and fans. As
the show concluded, some guy in a red suit and a red mask ran past me. I
wonder who he was; I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before. Is he going
to be on the next BWO show?
