Ten Questions With . . .

Luscious Lily

The Clothesline Crew had the pleasure of meeting Luscious Lily this past weekend at Fan Slam and SummerBash. We also had the opportunity to see her against Ariel (the first match, other than a battle royal) that we have had the pleasure of seeing her in. Thanks to Lily for taking time to answer 10 Questions for The Wrestling Clothesline. Be sure to check Lily out at her site: HTTP://WWW.ANGELFIRE.COM/INDIE/LUCIOUSLILY1

1. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler?

Lily: I could give you the generic "It's just something I've wanted to do since I was a kid" answer which is actually the truth. However, if you psycho analyze it, my parents divorced when I was 4 years old. Me and my three sisters lived with my dad who raised us and ran his own business. Which meant he wasn't around a lot. The only time you could ever get all of us in one room for an extended period of time was during wrestling. My dad would rent every pay-per-view and take us to some of the live events when they were in town. I got my love of wrestling from him.

2. Who trained you and how did you find them to be your trainer? When was your first pro match? Who was it against?

Lily: Wow, there's one way to put 3 questions into one so you don't have to go over the allotted 10 questions. (You're the first to catch on?) I was trained primarily by Angel Amoroso. I attended an indy show that Angel was running with my mom and a friend. After dinner we all went out to eat and I was talking to Angel when my mom mentioned that I wanted to wrestle. There weren't that many local female wresters so Angel volunteered to train me. I feel so bad when people ask when my first match was because I don't remember dates well. It was probably like 6 years ago in Danville, PA for WWWA. I wrestled the Sister of Ranger Seven for about 3 minutes and won by count out. That's pretty much all I remember about it.

3. What promotions have you/do you work for? Which are your favorites? Why?

Lily: NWA-Jersey (during the Carluzzo era), NWS, IWA (Reading), RAW, CCW, POW, PTW, JAP, LAW, WXW, OSPW, WWWA, JWA, GWA

4. What is the best and worst things about being a professional wrestler?

Lily: The best would have to be the friends you make, getting to live your dream and getting to entertain people. The worst is the travelling, the low pay days, and the time this business takes away from your personal life.

5. What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

Lily: Being asked to work WXW's Sportsfest this past year was a big highlight for me. Everyone at WXW is so talented and extremely warm and friendly. The locker room is always fun to be in. I have such a good time just being around that group.

6. What is it like being a female in a predominately male sport? Are you ever treated differently by promoters or wrestlers?

Lily: Being a female in a predominately male sport is a challenge. There aren't many positions for women so it's like we're all fighting for the same spots. Also, it is a little harder to be taken seriously in this business as a female. I have been treated differently by both promoters and wrestlers. I've had both make disgusting comments to me. Some promoters and wrestlers think all women got into this business just to be with the boys.

7. If you could step into the ring with anyone, past or present, who would be your top three choices? Why?

Lily: My first choice would be Moolah because I just know I would learn so much from being in a ring with her. Moolah is a legend. My second choice would be Alexis Laree. I love watching her work and I'm so happy WWE signed her to a developmental deal. My last choice would have to be Angel Amoroso. She trained me and we've never actually worked a match together. I would love to do a teacher versus student with her.

8. What do you think of the current state of wrestling? What do you think of the current state of indy wrestling in particular?

Lily: I hate that wrestling seems to be on a down slope. Attendence is down for everyone. Indy wrestling is really getting slammed because the markets are getting over saturated. Everyone and their mother is opening a new promotion and running so close to each other that it's killing everyone.

9. Of all the matches you have had... which have been your top 3 favorites and for what reason?

Lily: My absolute favorite would have to be my first tag match in April of '03. It was myself and Sonjay Dutt against Ruckus and Ariel. I had just fractured my knee but had looked forward to the match since I got the booking that I did it anyway. I had such a good time working with the three of them. All three are amazing workers. I loved having Sonjay as my tag team partner too. I was getting really nervous and pacing the floor and it was Sonjay who grabbed me and told me to calm down. He's such a cool guy. I hope I get to work with him again in the future. Next would have to be the first time I wrestled Psycho. I hadn't wrestled in a few years and it was my first match back and I was so nervous. The match went great and I owe it to her. Last but not least would have to be wrestling Alere for NWS a month or so ago. I almost had her beat! I swear she cheated somehow. The crowd was really into this match though which made it so much more fun.

10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Lily: Hopefully healthy, married, still wrestling and making lots of money would be nice.
