National Wrestling Alliance: Total Non-Stop Action
Pay-Per-View Report
By Anthony Mislan

Date of Show: July 23, 2003

Hello everyone, and welcome to the second installment of my NWA: Total Non-Stop Action Pay Per View report. As you might know, last week there was no review as a sudden change in job schedule prevented me from seeing and recapping the show. Hopefully it will not happen again, and I would like to apologize for those who were looking forward to it. I would also like to take this time to send an apology to Ricky O and the entire Jersey Championship Wrestling staff. About a week or so ago, I made the mistake of posting a not so nice message on JCWs message board. The reason for the message post was in reference to Ricky's recent interview with Wrestling Clothesline. Due to my bad judgment, Wrestling Clothesline and it's owner Brett Schwan had their reputation tarnished. After speaking with Brett, and trying to get in contact with Ricky O and the JCW staff, I am giving my sincerest apologies for my statements.

NWA: Total Nonstop Action for July 23rd began immediately with the first fall of the NWA World Heavyweight Title match between AJ Styles and D'Lo Brown. In this match, the only way to win was via pinfall. NWA World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles faced off against Number One contender D-Lo Brown in the first of the best of three match set up last week on NWA TNA. After a back and forth match, AJ Styles picks up the win with an assist from "Ace in the Hole" Sonny Siaki. The champion takes a commanding 1-0 lead over D-Lo Brown with match two coming up later on tonight and possibly a third match to follow that. The second match will be a submission match. If necessary, the third match would be a ladder match.

Elix Skipper, who claims to be pound for pound the greatest wrestler in the world comes to the ring and sets up an open challenge for anyone in the back locker room. Making his NWA TNA debut, Mad Mikey accepts the challenge from Prime Time. WWE fans might have recognized him immediately as Crash Holly. Mike Tenay and Don West give a run down of his accomplishments in WWE. Twenty plus time Hardcore Champion, Lightweight Champion and even Tag Team Title. Not too bad match with Crash, errr Mad Mikey getting in alot of good offense, but after Mikey tried to use his patented scale, Elix Skipper nailed him with what he calls the "Bringing down the House" to pick up the victory.

Another promo is show, this one is documenting the brutal feud between former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett and Joe E. Legend. Clips from the previous baseball bat attacks on Jeff are shown. More clips of the two men brawling to open last weeks show and an interview with Joe E. Legend. Tenay and West continue to talk about the internal injuries that Jeff Jarrett has sustained in the past after being beaten with a baseball bat.

Live segment with Joe E. Legend in the back getting ready for a handicap match. Talking with security about watching out for Jeff Jarrett while Legend heads to the ring. Legend comes out and puts down America for backing "a great American Folk Hero" Jeff Jarrett. Legend asks if Jarrett is smarter than he is, he replies "No...No...No" Is he better than me. The crowd begans to chant USA as Legend continues his verbal assault. Legend says since Jarrett is a cheap shot artist, he has to pay American Lowlife Black Shirt Security to watch his back. After talking to the security team like little nothings, the match begins. The handicap match is Alter Boy Luke and Matt Cydal taking on Legend. Midway through the match, Jeff Jarrett comes out on the stage with his guitar and watches the match continue. Legend momentarily distracted by Jarrett's appearance and Luke and Cydal get the upperhand. This only lasted for a moment as Legend easily takes over control. After a double Stone Cutter, Legend picks up the win with a double pin. Jarrett asks the referee if the match is officially over, after the ref responds, the security parts allowing Jarrett to attack Legend in the ring. Jarrett goes to hit Legend with the guitar but Red Shirt Security comes out to break up the brawl. Kevin Northcut gets in Jeff's face and the two exchange shoves. Jeff goes off with a flurry of right hands to the security guard.

Backstage reporter, Scott Hudson listened in on a lockeroom conversation between NWA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles and Vince Russo. We can hear that Vince Russo is telling Styles not to be so cocky and that he doesn't want to get involved in a ladder match later on tonight. After winning his first match against challenger D-Lo Brown. AJ needs only one more win in the best two out of three match. The second match is a match where the stipulation is you need to win by submission only. AJ says he has it under control and walks out of the lockeroom. The second match of the best of three series is coming up next.

Another great promo showcasing "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels is shown. Daniels uses a lighter as an example as how the Cavemen were affraid of fire when first introduced to it. Much as people are affraid of Sports Entertainment when first introduced to it. But as the cavemen did, they will get use to it. For that is the gospel according to the Fallen Angel. Promo ends with "Returning soon to save your souls." and "Say your prayers"

Tale of the Tape shows D-Lo Brown has the Height, Weight, and Experience edge over AJ. AJ is the defending World Heavyweight Champion, and is already up one nothing. As D-Lo makes his entrance, Sonny Siaki attacks Brown on the ramp. With his back turned, D-Lo has his knee clipped by AJ Styles who came from the back. TNA referees come out to send Siaki to the backstage area. As Siaki is leaving, Trinity makes her way to ringside to cheer on her man AJ Styles. After D-Lo's knee was taken out by Siaki, AJ Styles spends most of his time working on the left knee. After any sort of offense by Brown, Styles immediately went right back after the knee. AJ goes for a sharpshooter and is very close to getting D-Lo to tap, when somehow Brown reverses into his own version of a sharpshooter/STF and gets the NWA Champion to tap out quickly.

A pre-recorded segment is shown with Mike Tenay interviewing new Mangerial Consultant Don Callis. Tenay asks him exactly what his job is. Callis dances around the question and never answers. Callis gives no direct answers to any of Tenays questions especially regarding Hardcore Wrestling. He says he has nothing to do with it, his feelings don't matter. It's the customers who don't want hardcore wrestling. He talks about downsizing Sandman, disciplining New Jack and stopping Lynn and Credible from having any more bloodbaths. Tenay asks if he has been watching the same show that he has when Callis says the customers don't want to see women wrestling around. From what he has heard from the fans in the Asylum, Tenay says he thinks they want use to let them fight.

Cuts back to the ring to Nurse Veronica and Cheerleader Valentina. Veronica calls out "The Cage Skanks" and says the fur will fly. April and Lollipop try to make their way to the ring when the black shirt security stop them in their tracks. Senior Referee Rudy Charles comes out and says "Let them Fight" causing the entire Asylum to chant. Security allows April and Lolli to enter the ring. After a brief cat fight, Trinity comes to the ring and begins to assault the TNA Cage Dancers. Segment ends with a nasty powerbomb by Trinity on Lollipop.

Another hilarious "3 Live Crew" presentation with the Suntan Superman Ron Killings, B Jizzle BG James, and Konnan aka the Magic Stick hanging in the hood. BG talks about hearing gun shots and being nervous. James interviews a few of the people walking around the hood and ends up disrespecting them. He asks a man if he just bought himself a Fourty from the grocery store. The man gets pissed off and says he has two words for him, "Suck It" Very funny. BG James goes into one of the fine stores in the hood and comes out with a very fresh Pimp outfit.

Glen Gilberti comes to the ring with a bag and asks Jeremy Borash to come into the ring. The former leader of s.E.x tells Borash that since he loves NWA World Tag Team Champions, America's Most Wanted, he could be their valet. Out of the bag comes a green cowboy hat and a farm girl dress. Glen demands that Borash becomes the valet for AMW. As Gilberti tried to make Borash get into the dress, AMW comes out for the save and strip Glen down to his underwear. Before things could get more out of hand, Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger come out and brawl with AMW. Referee comes out and begins the NWA World Tag Team Championship match right now. "Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm and "Wildcat" Chris Harris have been improving more and more as the weeks have progressed. It's good to see Swinger and Diamond being brought in once again in TNA this week. This feud looks like it could get interesting if they keep it going. Much like their past encounters, alot of nice offense going on in this match. Once again Swinger and Diamond seemed like they might actually pick up the victory and the tag titles. But after the Death Sentence, it looked like it was all over for the former ECW Alumn. Before the referee could count the three, Gilberti came back out and caused a disqualification. After the match was thrown out, Gilberti, Diamond and Swinger beat AMW down with bull ropes, cowbells and straps.

Video package is shown with clips from the Raven/Shane Douglas feud so far. More clips of the fire throwing by James Mitchell on all of the Gathering. Tonight will be a six man match pitting Raven's Gathering of Raven, Julio and CM Punk facing off against Father James Mitchell's Disciples of the New Church. Shane Douglas joins forces with Slash and Killdozer Brian Lee.

Scott Hudson interviewing James Mitchell talking about what the Disciples are going to do to Raven. Ending the interview with Douglas saying they will bring the pain to Raven and it is time for him to get his ass Franchised.

Throughout the six man match, Shane Douglas wouldn't enter the ring when Raven was tagged in. When Raven and Douglas were in the ring together, the Franchise took the easy way out and tagged in another Disciple. CM Punk and Julio took alot of offense from James Mitchell's army of darkness. When Raven finally got his hands on Douglas, it quickly spilled to the outside of the ring and toward the back of the arena. Raven landed some heavy blows to Shane Douglas outside of the old s.E.x locker room when suddenly an arm came out from the curtain and dragged Raven out of sight. Shane and Mitchell laughed as they made their way back to the ring. In the ring CM Punk and Julio double teamed Slash while Brian Lee was outside the ring. Once Shane got back into the mix, things quickly turned in the favor of the Disciples. After beating down CM Punk and Julio, Slash went to the outside for a table and Raven emerged from the back with his face covered in blood. He crawled back to the ring and was quickly set up near the table that was propped up in the corner. Fighting out of the corner and taking down Slash and Brian Lee, the numbers game finally caught up with Raven as Shane Douglas speared him through the table and got the one two three.

The fourth and final installment of Sting: Behind the Paint airs with Mike Tenay getting Sting's comments about his new life of Christianity and how it has affected him.

Mike Tenay than entered the ring to introduce the Asylum to a group of Legends. Amongst them Sarah Lee, Corsica Joe, Ricky Morton, Larry Zbyszko & Harley Race. Kid Kash comes out with The Abyss and interrupts the introductions. Kash disrespects all of the legends and eventually slaps his former trainer Ricky Morton. This occured after Kash said the difference between himself and Morton was that Morton needed a partner to win gold and he didn't. Kash calls Race and disgrace for losing the NWA World Title nine times. The group moves in to attack him when out of no where Erik Watts comes in and chokeslams Kash. Watts introduces himself as the new Director of Authority.

Mike Tenay listened as Don West talked about next week's show, which includes X Division Champion Chris Sabin defending the title against Michael Shane, who the announcers pointed out is the cousin of Shawn Michaels.

Suddenly a bloody Raven appeared in his nest with Dinero and Punk. Raven challenged Douglas, Lee and Slash to a six-man "Clockwork Orange House Of Fun" match for next week. Raven stumbled over the title of his own match, but quickly caught himself. Stating he was so excited he mispronouced his own match.

AJ Styles vs. D'Lo Brown in a ladder match ended with both men falling to the mat while holding the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Ending of the match saw Styles get back in the ring, climb the ladder and put his hands on the belt. Brown got back in, climbed up, and they exchanged punches on topof the ladder. They both fell off the ladder, and landed with both men holding the belt. Vince Russo ran out and started screaming at the referee who told ring announcer Jeremy Borash the official decision, which was that since the champion was not "decisively" defeated, the belt would remain with AJ Styles. Vince Russo started jumping up and down, and was hugging the title belt as the show ended.

Good night everyone hope you enjoyed the recap. Not a great show tonight by any means, but still better than what WWE puts out.
