Let me apologize for now TNA Report last week. I received an email about three weeks ago from someone asking if they could do the report for NWA TNA. After conversing through emails a few times, we agreed that he would do a report for the June 25th show. It ended up the tape his friend taped the show on broke and he couldn't do the recap. I asked if he could do it for the July 2nd show and he said yes. With that in mind, I watched the July 2nd TNA without having to jot down any notes, etc. Well, come to find out (after emailing him on July 6th) that his friend doesn't watch the show every week, therefore he couldn't watch it every week, therefore it may not be a good idea. DO YO THINK he could have told me this BEFORE offering to review the show?? -Brett Update - After my "rant", I received an email from
Anthony asking if I would be interested in him doing the NWA TNA report
for the site. My response..."absolutely". SO...... National Wrestling Alliance: Total Non-Stop Action Date of Show: July 9, 2003 Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself to all the great readers of Wrestling Clothesline. My name is Anthony Mislan and you could say this is my audition for a spot on this website. So after reading my review of NWA-TNA's weekly Pay-Per-View offering, I would truly appreciate any and all comments and feedback. First I would like to thank the man who makes this fantastic website possible, Brett A. Schwan for the wonderful opportunity he has given me. I have been a professional wrestling fan since I was four years old when I was witness to one of the greatest events in Sports Entertainment history, WWF's Wrestle Mania I. Over the past 17 years I have amassed an outrageous amount of wrestling information, and believe me it isn't always good to know all this stuff. But enough about me, on to tonights Pay Per View offering. NWA: Total Nonstop Action started with a black and white video recap from last week featuring Minister James Mitchell's fireball assault on CM Punk. Sandman defeating New Jack in the Hard Ten Tournament with the backdrop off the balcony. The monster named The Abyss interfering and giving Kid Kash a win over Erik Watts. The women of Bitch Slap, Tracy and Nurse Veronica's confrontation with the TNA Girls Lollipop and April. Jerry Lynn getting the win over Justin Credible in the Russian Chain Match, and Justin's post match attack. Then finally, the brawl between Jarrett and Legend, Russo, and Styles, including the baseball attack as well as the attack to Frankie Kazarian at the end of the show. The recap closes out with D'Lo's save and challenge to AJ Styles. As usual our color commentators for the night were "The Professor" Mike Tenay and Don West. Outside, Scott Hudson is back and approaches Jeff Jarrett who was kept from being cleared to appear at the Asylum as a result of the baseball shots to the ribs, Jarrett says that it's not going to stop him, and if Russo wants to play with a bat, then "batter up". The show opens and begins with the World Tag Team Championship match. Former ECW stars Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger have been brought in by Glen Gilberti to challenge America's Most Wanted. Glen Gilberti is on a mission to take the tag titles away from Storm and Harris, and he joins West and Tenay at ringside for commentary. Gilberti claims that Triple X carried AMW to a match of the year type match two weeks ago. Harris and Swinger start with a tie up and headlock by Harris, Harris sent for the ride, drops Swinger with a shoulder tackle, and hits the ropes. Swinger attempts a hip toss but it's countered with a hip toss by Harris followed by an arm drag. Swinger gives Harris a thumb to the eye and tags in Simon. Diamond charges in but gets an arm drag. Harris sends Diamond with a whip but Simon reverses it. Chris grabs on to the ropes, avoiding a drop kick, avoiding a clothesline from Swinger then clotheslines Johnny Swinger to the apron, but when he turns around is met with a Superkick by Simon. Alot of missed tags with Chris Harris spending alot of time in the ring. Diamond attacks Storm but is Rolled up, the referee is checking on Harris and doesn't see Harris thrown to the ropes off the kick out, right into a chair shot from Glen. Diamonds and Swinger hit a dual Flatliner, but Storm kicks out at two. Double team continues, with a set up for a Hart Attack to Storm but is cut short by a spear from Chris Harris to Johnny Swinger which gets the pin and the win. A pretty good back actually, nice to see Simon Diamond on television again. A video package on Christopher Daniels airs as the Fallen Angel declares he will bring the Gospel of Sports Entertainment to those who are looking for the light. Christopher has a great gimmick as we all know, but this is really the first time in TNA that he has had a chance to show it off. In the ring is Legend, wearing a New York Jersey, doing an impersonation of Vince Russo with bat in hand. "Vince Russo" discusses his problems with Jeff Jarrett and declares an end will be brought to the rivalry. He introduces the man who should be "home with his baby tonight." Jeff Jarrett's music plays and Vince Russo comes out wearing the old Double J ring gear, jacket, hat, guitar, shades and even a long blond wig. Russo does the Double J strut in the ring, then uses all of Jeff's WCW catchphrases. Then says this night will be all about a J-E-Double-F J-A-Double-R-E-Double-T tribute to "Russo." Vince begins using the trademark "ha-ha" as he comments about the tightness of the ring gear he has on. After a while, the real Jeff Jarrett comes out to take out Vince Russo only to be beaten by Legend. They brawl all over the area and Jarrett ends up bleeding profusely when Legend kicked a steel chair into his face. The end of the segment came with Legend being taped to the top rope by Jarrett and Russo coming back out to attack Jeff. For his troubles, Russo received a guitar shot to the head. Legend broke free from the tape and continues his assault on Jarrett. After a few hard swings with the bat on Jarretts ribs, they leave the ring. Backstage Scott Hudson is with Chris Sabin, asking him about his feelings on Frankie Kazarian also using "The Future" as a nickname. Chris Sabin says it's obvious who has the gold, and thus who is "The Future." Chris says Frankie is talented, but on a losing streak, and losers don't get title shots, so Frankie will have to prove something in his match tonight if he wants a shot at the X-Division Title. But Chris would only consider it...after fifteen or so more wins. A video package for another third of Triple X, Elix Skipper airs. Elix claims to be Pound for Pound, the best wrestler in the world as clips of some of his best moments in TNA play. With that, Elix makes his way down to ringside for commentary of this Six-Way X-Division match featuring Kid Romeo, Matt Sydal, Alter Boy Luke, Delirious, Matt Stryker, and Frankie Kazarian. Romeo catches Matt Sydal and drops him with the Last Kiss for the three count . . . Matt Sydal first to be eliminated. Alter Boy Luke enters the ring and drives Kid Romeo with the Holy Driver, half-nelson into a powerbomb, that gets two. Luke climbs to the outside and hits the Halo, a moonsault from the second rope on the outside of the ring to the inside which also only gets two. Romeo for the ride, Romeo reverses a wheelbarrow attempt into a bulldog and tags out to Frankie Kazarian. Irish whip, blind tag by Delirious, Frankie has Luke set up for a Wheelbarrow Suplex, sunset flip by Delirious to Frankie throws Luke over with the suplex. Luke's head and neck hit hard on the apron, and he is unable to continue, even though there was no official announcement . . . Alter Boy Luke is eliminated. The masked Delirious shoots Frankie into the corner and follows it up with a charging clothesline, and a camel clutch roll up for a two count. Both men to their feet, but Kazarian drops Delirious with a Bicycle Kick. Kazarian shoots Delirious into the corner, but Delirious jumps to the outside and pulls Kazarian into the corner. Delirious climbs onto Frankie's shoulder, but Kazarian catches him and falls back, slamming Delirious from his shoulders to the floor and bridging through for the pin . . . Delirious is eliminated. Stryker in whips Kazarian, Frankie ducks the clothesline but is caught with the Lou Thesz press. Strykersault is caught by Kazarian's knees. Frankie tags into Romeo. Stryker whips Romeo to the ropes and catches him with a jumping heel kick followed by a powerslam for two. Stryker attempts a whip but Romeo reverses it and lifts Stryker onto his shoulders. Stryker fights back and lifts Romeo to the top rope, but Romeo catches him and hits the Last Kiss off the top rope for the 1-2-3 . . . Matt Stryker is eliminated. Frankie Kazarian quickly jumps into the ring with a slingshot dropkick. Romeo fights back and sets Kazarian up for the Last Kiss, but Kazarian flips out of it and sets Romeo up for the Back to the Future, twisting Flatliner, executing it with impact for the final pinfall . . . Kid Romeo is eliminated, Frankie Kazarian has won the match. Chris Sabin makes his way to the ring and says that Frankie proved something tonight and will get his X-Division Title shot, right now. Impromptu X-Division Title match begins between Chris Sabin and Frankie Kazarian begins with Sabin taking advantage of the tired Kazarian. Chris begins his attack on Frankie's ribs by rolling him hard into the corner post underneath the bottom rope. Sabin throws Kazarian into the guardrail before draping him over it. Sabin climbs up the guardrail and drops down with a double axe handle over Kazarian's back. Sabin rolls Frankie into the ring, but Frankie reverses into neck and shoulder suplex. Kazarian gets to his feet and takes Sabin down with a variation of the swinging neckbreaker. Sabin rolls to the floor, and Kazarian tries for a slingshot cross body block, but Sabin buries a knee in to his ribs. Sabin rolls Kazarian back into the ring and spring boards in with a sunset flip that is blocked into a pin by Kazarian for two. Sabin gets control again with a knee to the rib, and climbs to the top rope, Frankie cuts him off and goes for the Flux Capacitor, but Sabin fights off. Sabin dives at Frankie, but Kazarian catches him and attempts the Back to the Future, Sabin blocks it and lifts Frankie up. Sabin drives him into the turnbuckle running powerbomb style, giving Sabin the chance to hit Kazarian with the Future Shock for the win. Scott Hudson has an update on the condition of Jeff Jarrett, trainers are checking on Jarrett but Legend and Russo charge in and continue to attack Jeff Jarrett with Russo yelling that he doesn't want Jarrett to breathe anymore. Lollipop is in the ring with something to say to the girls of Bitch Slap, saying that they have unfinished business that should be finished tonight. Nurse Veronica makes her way to the ring, Lollipop charges at her from the ring and April, the other TNA dancer, from behind. Before any sort of fight can get started, Black Shirt security runs in and pulls them apart to the crowds chagrin, with chants of "Let them fight" filling the Asylum. Quickly the show cuts to a sit down interview between Mike Tenay and Father James Mitchell. Mitchell addresses his connection with Douglas being that they both hate Raven for two separate reasons and would kill one bird with two stones. Wow, James Mitchell is one freaky looking guy. I wonder how he is outside of the wrestling world. He talks about losing his wife and family, I wonder why. Dude, you look an awful lot like Satan. I don't know if your wife was wrong for leaving you. A still photo is shown of Mitchell throwing a fireball into the face of CM Punk, and in the ring are the remaining members of the Gathering, Julio Dinero, and Alexis Laree. Dinero has the microphone and says that he made a promise to Raven and challenged Shane Douglas to a match. Julio controled much of the offense in this match, and Alexis interfered on his behalf. Alexis hit a nice Top Rope Tornado DDT on Shane, but Julio could only get a two count out of it. The finish of this match comes when Douglas gets up and throws Julio into Alexis, Dinero turns around and walks right into the Belly to Belly Suplex for the pin. After the match Minister James Mitchell makes his way to the ring as Douglas holds Julio, preparing him for an obvious fireball. Alexis climbs into the ring and attacks Douglas, but Shane fights her off and holds her. Mitchell walks up to Alexis and holds his hands in front of Laree's face. The fire ignites right in Alexis' face, setting her hair on fire. Julio quickly dives onto Alexis, smothering the flames. From the floor, Jeremy Borash hands Julio water and a towel to help as officials run in the take care of the situation as Mitchell and Douglas laugh on the outside. Outside, Jarrett, on a stretcher, is being attacked by Legend and Russo. A myriad of wrestlers, including Lynn and AMW run in to pull Legend away, and D'Lo steps in behind Russo, grabbing him by his neck, and walking away with him. Next up was a very horrible match with Don Harris of the Harris brothers taking on Shark Boy. They show a recap from last weeks show where Shark Boy embarassed the Harris Twins. This week they have vowed to strip Sharky of his mask. If Shark Boy wasn't so comical, this match would have been a total bust, but the Harris Twins do the same thing every match. End of this match came when Shark Boy dives from the top rope to the apron, knocking Ron Harris off, but as Shark Boy gets to his feet he walks right into a Chokeslam from Don Harris for the pinfall. Ron gets in the ring, and the two drive Shark Boy down with the H-Bomb before going for the mask. They tear the mask off, but there is another mask right underneath it. The Harris Boys try to give Shark Boy another H-Bomb, but he gets away and retreats with his mask. A new segment for this week, TNA Week Day Update with BG James, Konnan, and Ron Killings. They give all the recent news, first with Bush's trip to Africa, insinuating that the African food gave the President the runs. Konnan with the sports, Sosa has cork in his bat, Gilberti has a sock in his shorts. Kobe under scrutiny for sex scandal, but the 19-year-old in question was not Juventud Guerrera, who is dating Kid Romeo. Ron Killings has the weather, because black people are more adapt to the hot weather than a "cracker" like BG James. Ron Killings says it's hot outside, but will rain . . . eventually. And the traffic is terrible. On a more serious note, BG James tried to find something funny to close out the segment, and the funniest thing they could find was Stephanie McMahon vs. Sable on PPV at Vengeance this Sunday. Scott Hudson is with D'Lo Brown and asks where D'Lo Brown. He says that it doesn't matter, all that matters is the NWA World Title. AJ confronts D'Lo about Russo, and the two brawl before being broken apart Back to the ring, Kid Kash rides down the ramp on the shoulders of Abyss for his match with Jerry Lynn. We are told that Jerry Lynn had challenged Justin Credible for a last man standing match, but Credible declined the challenge. The usual X-Division match goes on here, with Jerry Lynn showing his new and improved side. Highlight of this match has to be when Lynn gets to his feet but is grabbed by Kash from behind as Abyss climbs up to the second rope. Lynn swings his leg back, giving Kid Kash a low blow, then charges at Abyss, running up the ropes and giving Abyss a Frankensteiner into the center of the ring. A well over three hundred pound man being flipped off the top rope. Kash sets Lynn up for the finish, but Lynn fights out and sets Kash up for the Cradle Piledriver. Justin Credible slides into the ring and flips Jerry off before hitting him in the head with the Kendo Stick, allowing Kash to get the pinfall victory. A video package for "Ace in the Hole" Sonny Siaki, where Sonny says there is no more Cocky Siaki, just Ace in the Face. Looks like they are trying to give the members of the former s.E.x faction good singles pushes. I hope this continues. In the ring, Mike Tenay stands with the Hard Ten Trophy Cup sitting atop a trash can. He lists the Hardcore Legends, The Sheik, Abdullah the Butcher, Terry Funk, and now The Sandman. The Sandman limps out carrying half a case of beer. Sandman says he's hurting, and really only knows one thing to do with a cup. He begins to pour his beers into the cup and chugs out of it to the request of the fans. He then takes to the ringside to give the fans a drink from his trophy. As he makes his way around the ring, a large man in a business suit charges out from backstage and attacks The Sandman. He throws Sandman into the ring as Don Callis makes his way to the ring, and his TNA Debut. The large man gives The Sandman a pair of senton splashes. Don begins to cut down Sandman and introduces the 500 lbs Edward Chastane. Callis declares that Hardcore wrestling is over, and Sandman and his career are over. Edward picks up the trash can, preparing to hit Sandman with it, but Callis stops him and says they should act corporate and use the trashcan appropriately. Callis puts on a set of gloves to pick up the Hard Ten cup trophy and as he drops it in the trash can, calls it all garbage. Behind the Paint with Sting: Part Two, Word Association Favorite Opponent: Ric Flair Favorite Match: Great American Bash 90 Dusty Rhodes: Most charismatic ever Eric Bischoff: Gotta give him credit Roddy Piper: Talented character Bret Hart: Great Finishing Hold (both laugh) Ultimate Warrior: Very bizarre Vince McMahon: Best Chess Player of all time (both laugh) Hulk Hogan: Best Chess Player of all time, will never be another, the Michael Jordan of Wrestling (both laugh) Randy Savage: Great character Internet impact on wrestling: Good and bad, stopped paying attention to the negativity. Just talk positive about what you like. Doesn't understand why people watch if they don't like it. Next week, Sting talks about the final Nitro, have a tear in his eye knowing it could be the last time wrestling Ric Flair and possibly last time wrestling forever. Scott Hudson is backstage with Trinity, when he is supposed to be interviewing AJ Styles. Trinity says she is in the talking mood, but AJ is not. She says she doesn't owe anyone any explanation. Says she can do things that not even men can do. She has the body, the brains, and the muscles and doesn't need to get her hands dirty with guys like Kid Kash and D'Lo. D'Lo is going to meet up with the New York attitude. As Trinity leaves, she sends her greetings to Goldylocks. Don West with the Hardsell announces that Justin Credible and Jerry Lynn are going to settle it in a Last Man Standing Match. Shark Boy and New Jack are going to team up to take on The Harris Brothers. If Jeff Jarrett is able, he will meet The Legend in the ring, one-on-one. Now it is time for the NWA World Heavyweight Title match A Tale of the Tape is done for the Challenger and the Champion with D'Lo having the size and experience advantage. D'Lo makes his entrance to the ring alone, followed by AJ Styles, also alone. D'Lo takes the microphone and says he will bring his Equalizer out now. The Red Shirt Security bring out Vince Russo locked inside of a mesh wire cage. AJ runs to help Vince, but D'Lo chases him down and throws him into the cage. After interference by Trinity, AJ gets up and runs at D'Lo, right into the Sky High Powerbomb. D'Lo climbs the corner and nails the Lo Down, but Sonny Siaki slides into the ring and nails D'Lo in the back of the head with a cane followed by the Siakolypse. AJ climbs the corner and dives with his version of the Lo Down Frogsplash, which gets the pinfall. AJ Styles retains the NWA World Title. Trinity gets in the ring and retrieves the key from D'Lo. She takes it and unlocks Russo. Siaki, Styles, Trinity, and Russo lock D'Lo in the cage and begin attacking it with the baseball bat. Tipping it over and taunting D'Lo as this weeks edition of TNA concludes. Remember all comments and feedback are welcomed. Thank you and good night |
