NWA TNA PPV Recap
Airdate: August 20
By Brett Schwan

This week's show opened with an AJ Styles video package and a preview of tonight's gauntlet match.

When the show goes live inside the Asylum, CM Punk, Julio Dinero, Alexis Laree, and Raven are brawling with Shane Douglas, Slash, and the news member of the Church, Sinn. Raven has Shane down in the ring when he challenges the mystery man. The lights go out and with periodic strobes, we are able to see the mystery man attack Raven. When the lights come on, the mystery man runs but Raven is hanging from the top rope. The Gathering make the save.

Mike Tenay and Don West open the show then throw it to Scott Hudson in the back with Jerry Lynn. Lynn is mad because he has lost so much work. Don Callas enters and tells Lynn he is being fined $5000. Lynn snaps and is thrown out of the building by red shirt security.

A recap of the Frankie Kazarian/Chris Sabin/Michael Shane feud serves as a lead in to the Ultimate X Match for the X Division Title. Did anyone else have reservations about this match? The winner had to make their way across steel wires toward the belt hanging in the middle of the ring. The man who got the belt first would be the winner. Kazarian and Shane were both on the wires when Sabin hit a springboard dropkick, knocking them both down. Shane was busted open and was bleeding severely. Sabin worked his way toward the title but Shane hit him with a chair. As Sabin fell, so did the title. The match was stopped as the belt was placed back on the wires. Sabin powerbombed Shane off the wires then Kazarian speared Sabin of the wires and guess what? The belt fell again. Match is stopped to re hang the belt. At this point I felt like I was watching and old episode of American Gladiators and the Hang Time game they used to have. Kazarian was within inches of the title when Shane came out of nowhere and grabbed it to become the new X Division Champion.

Outside the arena a hearst arrives. Siaki and Trinity say it's there because tonight is the burial of D Lo Brown.

In a Double Bull Rope Match, Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger (with Glen Gilbertti) defeated Americas Most Wanted after some help from Glen and a belt shot to the head of Storm. Lots of near finsishes but Simon and Swinger got the win.. unfortunately it was a non title match.

Scott Hudson is in the back with the Gathering. They tell him Raven was taken to the hospital and they challenge the New Church. A brawl ensues.

Siaki and Trinity are in the ring as the casket is wheeled to ringside. They pay their respects to D Lo. D Lo jumps from the casket and attacks both Siaki and Trinity. He throws them both into the casket and stands on top of it.

Scott Hudson in the back with Christopher Daniels and Legned talking about their tag match tonight with Erik Watts and Jeff Jarrett.

The New Church (Sinn and Slash) vs CM Punk and Julio Dinero is next. Very good match and I'm thrilled to see Sinn on TNA. Let's hope he gets a full time slot. Slash throws powder into Punks eyes which allows Sinn to hit a second rope powerbomb for a two count. Near Death Experience on Sinn for two. Mitchell tries to get in the ring with a spike but Alexis crotches him on the ropes. She then climbs to the top and hits a leaping DDT on Slash. Shane Douglas enters and hits Julio with brass knuckles, giving Slash the pin. Post match: Mitchell gets back in the ring with the spike. Alexis hits three nice kicks on him before she is belly to bellied by Shane Douglas. Shane then gets out scissors and starts cutting Alexis' hair (about an inch off the ends)

Earlier today Mike Tenay interviewed Erik Watts. Watts talked about NWA and TNA and the difference, Jeff Jarrett, and Vince Russo.

We see a pre recorded interview with the vacationing Vince Russo and AJ Styles.

Next up is a tag team match with Legend and Christopher Daniels vs Jeff Jarrett and Erik Watts. Your typical match where the heels dominate and every time the faces tag, the ref misses it. Jarrett finally rolls up Legend for the pin. Post match: Daniels and Legend beat down Watts and JJ. Black shirt and red shirt security enter but begin to fight with each other. Freddy and Jason jump the guardrail and handcuff Watts to the rail. Jason attacks Jarrett and hits a Styles Clash. They unmask to be Styles and Russo. Jarett is then powerbombed through a table, off the ropes, by AJ, Christopher and Legend. He is then taken out back and thrown in the hearse.

A promo which states "He's coming..." appears with Piper's music in the background.

Dusty says he will be back next week to take on Glen Gilbertti in a bull rope match.

West announces that next week, in addition to Dusty v Glen, Michael Shane "will finally defend his X Division Title". Finally? Hell he just won it 45 minutes ago!! Also next week, Siaki v DLo and AJ Styles v the winner of the gauntlet.

The gauntlet is up next. New men enter every 90 seconds. The last two will wrestle. The winner is #1 contender.

Kid Kash and Ron Killings are the first two men in. They are followed by Christopher Daniels, BG James and Sonny Siaki. Jarrett's music plays but he is MIA. D Lo Brown enters next. Mad Mikey comes out and he's mad he's not in the match. Siaki is eliminated by D Lo. Abyss is in next and he eliminates Killings and James. Sandman enters as Abyss eliminates Kash then Mikey (who wasn't in the match). Legend enters followed by Konnan. Sandman is thrown out. Shane Douglas enters next. Konnan eliminates Legend. Raven eliminates Abyss. Daniels eliminates Konnan then D Lo before he is eliminated by Raven. The last two men are Raven and Shane Douglas and Raven scores the pinfall giving him the shot at AJ Styles title next week.

Overall, a better show than the last few weeks. The less Russo on the air, the better.
