Nikita Allanov
1. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler?
It was something I always wanted to do ever since I saw it on television
when I was a small boy. When I was studying at Ohio State University, I
had to opportunity to do it professionally, and I went for it.
2. What has been your most memorable moment in wrestling thus far?
Either appearing on Zero-One television in Japan, or winning the NWA East
Heavyweight Championship. Winning that championship is definitely the
biggest achievement.
3. Of all the promotions you have worked for, which have been your
favorites and why?
I love wrestling in the NWA, because of the rich history and tradition
of the organization. My people have always excelled in the NWA, and I
have proven to be no different thus far. It is just a shame more promoters
in the organization do not do what it takes to uphold that tradition.
4. Who are some of your favorite wrestlers to watch in action?
Anyone that I can learn from. I watch a lot of matches from Ivan and Nikita
Koloff, Ric Flair, the Midnight Express, Taz, Vader...the list is almost
endless.
5. What is the best and worst thing about being a professional wrestler?
That it is so hard to make a living at it. Wrestling has gone from a sport
with 30 territories with athletes making $100-$200 a night, to a billion
promotions lacking credibility, and offering no paydays. This business
is treated too much like a hobby and a "good ol boys" club.
The best thing has to be the feeling of having a great match in front
of a really great crowd. Nothing feels better than that - nothing.
6. What has been your most embarrassing moment in the sport?
My last loss.
7. What advice would you give a youngster interested in getting into
professional wrestling?
Build your body without putting things in your body, and compete in other
sports until you are old enough to train, and then train at a credible
school such as the Pittsburgh Wrestling Academy. There is a glut of non-talent
in this business, so if you are serious about getting into it, you need
to know how to compete, to be in shape, and to get what you pay for. People
that sit around playing video games and eating chips all day, and want
to wrestle without paying dues shouldn't need to be in this business,
and need to be thinned out.
8. What do you think of the current state of professional wrestling?
In general, it sucks. Houses are down all over, and that means the athletes
get less pay. There are too many promotions run by people that have no
business promoting, and that leads to too many people competing in the
ring that shouldn't be. The integrity and profitability of this sport
has been destroyed.
9. When you are not wrestling, what do you enjoy doing?
Training to wrestle, working out, and preparing my students to become
complete athletes. I also enjoy cooking and eating, and writing.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would like to see myself making a living off of this sport, but I honestly
think it is going to take a hell of a lot longer than five years for this
business to straighten itself out so that the WWE isn't the only way to
do that. I would be happy to be regarded as one of the toughest and most
brutal competitors in the sport by the fans and other athletes.
