Adam Windsor Interview.

By P.Staniforth 2005.

Adam Windsor, like me, is from the United Kingdom. So I’m both pleased and proud to have this interview; and here’s what was said when we caught up to chat recently.

PETER) : Welcome to my office, LOL. Tell us a little about yourself to begin.

ADAM) : Well, my name is ‘The Royal Stud’ Adam Windsor, I’m 23, and I’m from Coventry in England. I’ve been in the wrestling business six years now. I was a pretty normal child growing up, I had two great parents. My mum is a nurse, and my dad is a dentist, and particularly my mum was always around me while I was growing up. I always played sports, whether it was soccer, rugby, cricket, swimming or judo – I was always doing something!

PETER) : When did you first view wrestling?

ADAM) : I remember seeing wrestling very vaguely in my mind, probably when I was around five or six years old. The only reason I really remember was because it was British wrestling, and I will always remember a guy by the name of Big Daddy (Shirley Crabtree) that I watched and cheered for every week. Even now, I remember him wearing a big top hat with the Union Jack flag on it and everyone cheering. British wrestling, though, one day disappeared off television and it was not until I was around nine or ten that we got cable television and the moment I watched the WWF (WWE), I was totally hooked.

PETER) : Did you know even then that you wanted to be a wrestler?

ADAM) : I do not remember a time that I did not want to be a wrestler. From the first time I saw WWE, I wanted to be in the ring doing everything I saw the guys on television doing.

PETER) : It can’t have been easy breaking into the American side of the wrestling business, from here in England. How did you get that break?

ADAM) : The hardest part for me being from England, was actually getting trained. I had wrote hundreds of letters to the WWE, and got many responses saying that they had no specific training school; and that you had to be pre-trained before you could possibly work for them. So to cut a very, very, long story short; I got into doing Judo with a guy by the name of Neil Adams (we had no wrestling, so I figured that Judo was a good way to go). Neil was the coach of the British Judo Team (which I eventually ended up in) and he was also the brother of ‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams. Chris had a daughter by the name of Jade, and Jade would travel to England a couple of times a year to stay with her Uncle Neil. I got to be real good friends with Jade, and she said that she would do what she could to help me get into wrestling (Jade at this time when she was in America, lived with her mum Jeannie Clark Williams and her step dad ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin). I was about seventeen at this time, and Jade was the same age. She had told Steve about me, and Steve mentioned my name to someone in the Titan Towers office. At the same time I had written more letters to the WWE, and the person that Steve actually told about me, for some unknown and unexplained reason knew about my letters. From there they passed all my information onto the training division (as they had now set up The Funkin Dojo), and Dory Funk Jr started talking to me; and the rest as they say is history.

PETER) : So, it was Dory who trained you?

ADAM) : I was trained mainly by Dory Funk Jr. I also got the chance though, to go to The Hart Dungeon in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I also have taken a lot of training advice from Dr Tom Prichard, Pat Patterson, and Rob Van Dam.

PETER) : That’s quite a who’s who! What do you feel your first matches were like?

ADAM) : For the first year or so, I was really thrown around the ring. I was always the small guy that anybody could do anything to ( I was only weighing around 120 pounds), and my opponents would usually hit me with every move that they knew (but I guess that it taught me how to sell some though!).

PETER) : How would you describe yourself as a wrestler?

ADAM) : It really depends on who I am working with. I feel myself, that I really am a story based wrestler; in that I always want my matches to make sense whether I am a heel or a baby face. Whether I am working a highspot style match, or more a technical mat based style of match; I want the fans to get into it and enjoy it and really get involved in everything they are watching.

PETER) : What has been your favourite match or show that you’ve been involved in?

ADAM) : I have three matches that really stand out in my mind as favourites. Every one was with the WWE and every one I really enjoyed. The first one, I wrestled a guy called Marcus Dillon. I have worked him a lot and every time I have worked with him it has always been fun. The second match was against Ricky Noble. Ricky was from North Carolina, he is a good solid worker and always in the right place. My third match was against WWE star Paul London. Paul and I have had many matches together and I was really happy with the one we had with WWE. In fact, Paul had his very first match with me.

PETER) : Well, it’s no secret I’m a big fan of his work myself. Who do you consider your closest friends in the business?

ADAM) : I have worked so many different guys in the last six years, and many of them on numerous occasions, so I feel that they are all really friends. My closest friends right now in the business are Aric Dylan (he is my bodyguard and sometimes tag team partner, and also a close personal friend), Christian Bauer (who I started with six years ago, but just recently got back into wrestling, he is a great guy and a great friend), Neil Faith (Neil is another fellow Brit, and we tagged for a long time as the ‘Brit Pack’; he just recently came back to the United States and is scheduled to work with me on a number of upcoming dates), and also Missy Hyatt (Missy has been my valet for the last year or so, she gets a pretty bad rap around the business, but at the end of the day she is a very kind and caring person).

PETER) : What has been what you would consider your lowest point in wrestling so far?

ADAM) : Really, so far, it has been my last few months at the wrestling school I used to work for. It was very difficult to work or enjoy working in an enviroment where everyone was unhappy and very tense. I really had no idea what to do, or if I should leave, and I also felt really bad for the guys that I had personally been training there – especially if I was going to leave. But at the end of the day I definitely made the right choice by leaving, and am so much happier for it, and so are all the guys that left with me. Wrestling is fun again, it is great to get booked all the time, and it’s nice to not be completely stressed out by people.

PETER) : What do you like to do in your spare time?

ADAM) : Honestly? At the moment it is hard to get any spare time at all. Between wrestling, shooting a documentary withy MTV, and doing work with the movie department of Universal Studios here in Florida and also in LA; I am all over the place. When I do get spare time though, myself and my wife love to go to the beach, or go to theme parks. I am a complete adrenaline junkie, and love going on roller coasters!

PETER) : Very cool stuff. What five words do you feel describe you best?

ADAM) : Determined, dedicated, passionate, athletic and genuine.

PETER) : What are your plans for the future?

ADAM): Right now, my main plans are to keep on the course that I am following. I want to get as good as I can in the ring, and I also want to get my body in the best shape possible. Since leaving my former place of work, I have received some unbelievable opportunities and I plan to keep on building on them. At the end of the day I just want to be successful in the wrestling business no matter where I end up.

PETER) : Which I’m very sure you will be. What are your thoughts on WWE, TNA, and the indy’s?

ADAM) : My thoughts on WWE? I think some of the greatest athletes and entertainers in the world are there. Sometimes the storylines may not work, and sometimes there may not be as many fans watching it as at other times; but at the end of the day Vince McMahon runs a successful business that everyone wants to work for. TNA? I think they have done very well to be where they are at. In the beginning a lot of people thought that they would fail, but they have proved many people wrong and are still going strong. It is great that there is another wrestling company in the States to work for, competition is good for everyone. The Indy’s? Well, some independent promotions are pretty good, while others just are not. You have to be very careful which ones you choose to work for.

PETER) : Who do you like to watch and learn from?

ADAM) : My two favourite wrestling athletes of all time are Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. I grew up on those two guys and have watched them time and time again. Shawn is a great athlete in the ring, and I love to watch him work; even now he is as good as he was five or more years ago – he may even be better. Bret Hart was really one of the guys that made me want to become a wrestler, as he is a tremendous mat technician and has had some amazing matches. To me, Shawn and Bret made you always want to watch their matches, they would draw you in and made you not want to look away.

PETER) : Well, it’s been an utter pleasure. To finish things up, is there anything you would like to promote, or anyone you’d like to thank?

ADAM) : First of all, I would like to thank my wife and family for all the support they have given me and give me still to succeed in wrestling. When you are 120 pounds, live in England, and say that you want to become a professional wrestler then people usually laugh. My family however has always supported me, and my wife is the greatest. Without them, I would not be where I am today; and they all also have helped me through the last few months while leaving my former employers. I can be booked through theroyalstud@aol.com and also through my agent Chris Yandek at lyandek@aol.com. Finally, I would just like to promote my upcoming appearance on MTV. It will be in a true life documentary, and will also be the season premier. Once I have more information on when the show will air, details will be posted; but it is scheduled for the beginning of May. I am also going to be featured in a number of other projects involving MTV and Universal Pictures over the next year, and more information on those shows will follow.

PETER) : I wish you the best of luck with all, but strongly doubt that you’ll need it. Thanks again for this interview.

ADAM) : Thank you, Peter.
