Kage Interview.

By P.Staniforth 2005.

Here’s a chance to get to know one of my friends, who has a love of and determination for professional wrestling; that is unparalleled by many. Ladies and gentleman, meet Kage.

PETER) : Thanks for the interview. So what was growing up like?

KAGE) : As a child I was always involved in sports, such as football, baseball, basketball; in fact pretty much any sport actually. I was always on the go, never sitting around; and always looking to have fun. I stayed out of trouble, and that was due to great parents who instilled a solid foundation for work ethic; and responsibility.

PETER) : Knowing you as I do, it’s paid off very well. When did you first view wrestling?

KAGE) : I started watching wrestling as young as six or seven years of age. I loved watching Hulk Hogan of course. In general I was a fan of both heels and faces. I loved Demolition, The Road Warriors, and The Hart Foundation. I really liked the WWE/WWF product back in the 1980's. Change is always good, but I feel the product was better back in the 1980's and early 1990's. The WWE vs WCW was a classic, and you can’t forget what ECW did for the business.

PETER) : When did you realize that you wanted to become a professional wrestler?

KAGE) : At about fifteen years of age, I wanted to be a wrestler. But because I was small, I never thought I could. As years went on I got into lifting, and got bigger and bigger. I also thought I could never do it. But one day I told myself, I'm just going for it, because if I don’t; I will never know. And as it turns out, I made it.

PETER) : Where did you learn to wrestle?

KAGE) : I was trained by the United States Wrestling Federation, out of Buffalo, New York. I trained there for six months, and then started as a manager in the Rochester area; before actually getting my first match.

PETER) : What was your first match like?

KAGE) : My first match was given to me with a condition. If I helped set the ring up, I got to work. It’s called paying your dues, and I respect the promoter who gave me my first match which was for BCW, in Buffalo, New York. The match was ok, and it was a tag team match. One of my opponents almost broke my neck in my first match, but thank god I was ok. Overall, quite the first experience for me. My tag partner then, is still my partner now in a couple different promotions; where we are currently the tag team champions.

PETER) : How would you describe yourself to those who don’t know you yet?

KAGE) : As a big wrestler, with my height of 6'1 and my weight at 295; I'm able to many different things and use many different styles in the ring. I can mat wrestle, I can do submission wrestling, I can do some high flying; and of course I can use my power. I move quickly in the ring and I have great endurance for those extra long matches.

PETER) : What would you consider your favourite match so far?

KAGE) : That’s a hard choice. I've wrestled Julio Dinero from ECW, and TNA; and Al Snow from WWE. Those top the list of great matches for me. My top shows would be for promotions such as WXW, KCW, WWWA, among many others.

PETER) : I’m a huge mark for Al Snow, so I know I’d consider that very highly too. Who do you consider your friends in the business?

KAGE) : My friends in the business include Steve The Teacher ( a very good gimmick, and always there for me), IB Green ( a great friend and tag team partner, like a brother to me) Stephanie Roberts (a very good manager for our tag team, the Degenerates Of Society; and always willing to listen when I'm down). Everywhere I've worked I've been lucky to encounter great people, great workers; and great promoters.

PETER) : That is good luck, nowadays! Have you encountered any low points so far?

KAGE) : I haven't really experienced a low point. That stems from the fact, I take any negatives and I turn them into a positive. You have to be tough, mentally and physically; in this business. It is fun, but it is still a BUSINESS.

PETER) : I relate, in the respect that I take what I do very seriously; but not myself. What do you like to do in your spare time?

KAGE) : In my spare time I like to workout, study wrestling films; and to read. It’s hard to get away from the wrestling business, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

PETER) : I think that’s why me and you have become good friends, an intense love for this business. What five words do you feel describe you best?

KAGE) : Intense, passionate, hard worker, driven, talented.

PETER) : What are your plans for the future?

KAGE) : Right now, I'm keeping my sights set on WWE, TNA; and I would like to work overseas. I'm working every week and I love it.

PETER) : What are your thoughts on WWE, and TNA?

KAGE) : I like both TNA and WWE. I think this year will be a year that either is huge for both, or it will set up a HUGE 2006. And don’t forget, there may be some surprises in there as well; to really shake up the industry. Both promotions have great talent, and great minds running those promotions. But there is still a lot of great talent on the indy’s too

PETER) : Who do you like to watch and learn from?

KAGE) : I like watching Triple H, Undertaker, Jim Cornette, and Nova (Simon Dean). The reason I picked them, was because I respect their love of the business; their passion for the business. Without that passion you won’t get far in this business.

PETER) : So, to wrap things up; is there anything you’d like to promote or to say?

KAGE) : I'll be defending my tag team titles on Feb 25th, and doing a big show with Crazy Ivan for USA-Pro Wrestling. February is a packed month, a lot of traveling ahead for me. I look forward to going back to WWWA, SWO, WXW, NWL, and Pro Wrestling Entertainment. They’re great promotions, please check them out. And I would like to say thank you to the people who have made me who I am in this business, without you; I would be nowhere. And a big thank you to you Peter, it was an honor to do this interview; and you know you’re one of my true friends in this business.

PETER) : All I can say to that is thank you, because it’s for guys like you that I do this and get such a thrill from helping.
