MTX Interview.

By P.Staniforth 2005.

He’s one of the stars of ACW, BRAWL, and many other UK promotions. He’s going to be on Sky One’s ‘How Not To Die : Urban’. Most definitely not a man to argue with, here’s what MTX had to say when I caught up with him recently for a chat.

Peter) : Hi, and thanks for making the time for this interview. Tell us a little about your childhood.

MTX) : Well, I started martial arts at seven years old, doing judo brown belt, karate brown belt. At nine years old, boxing ABA, at twelve I played rugby, at fifteen years old I did karate (different style kempo), played for saints under 17s, and also took up kungfu, tae kwon do; achieved black belt in kung fu at eighteen. At twenty one to twenty six, I was a builder with no time for sports or body building, after that well jobs after jobs really. I qualified as agym instructor and passed a degree (human biological studies), and recently earned a black belt in kick boxing (wka) and doing cage fighting and submission wrestling. Recently I’ve been doing filming for a few indie films and TV series ‘How not to die: urban’ with Chris Ryan starting stunt work on a few films.

Peter) : When did you first view wrestling?

MTX) : About twentyish? (Add a few!) but came back to watching in the eighties.

Peter) : Did you know you wanted to be a wrestler, or did it just kind of happen by surprise?

MTX) : When I was watching when a young boy then I’d have said yes, but I’d not thought of it again until I was at work (as a doorman) working with my partner of the BRAWL wrestling promotion. We were watching (wwf) at the time, and I mentioned that I should wrestle as I was doing grappling and submission wrestling; and that was the start.

Peter) : Who trained you?

MTX) : I suppose me and a few videos really. Very naughty I know, but my martial arts and submission wrestling came in real handy also.

Peter) : What were your first matches like?

MTX) : To be honest, basic and boring.

Peter) : How would you describe yourself as a wrestler?

MTX) : Loud and technical, but I can do high flying moonsaults, a standing shooting star press, frog splash, plancha, and can power it out too.

Peter) : What would you call a favourite match or show that you were involved in?

MTX) : For a show, it would be the show I was on with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, and for a match then I would say the one I had with Jonny Storm.

Peter) :Your lowest point in wrestling so far?

MTX) : The disappointment when you put hundreds of posters and thousands of flyers out and only a few people turn up, but for me personally no low points.

Peter) : What do you like to do in your spare time?

MTX) : Training, weights, wrestling and martial arts, kayaking, horse riding, climbing, motorcycling. Everything I can do! Also having a laugh with my kids.

Peter) : What five words you feel describe you best?

MTX) : Loud, proud, charismatic, strong and agile.

Peter) : What are your plans for the future?

MTX) : To travel stateside and back, and visiting the Orient and Australia as well as Europe as a wrestler, making my school and promotion as known and as good as I can do.

Peter) : Your thoughts on WWE and TNA, and the indy's?

MTX) : WWE, yes I love the entertainment value, TNA are well awesome they have a great mix of wrestling and entertainment, the indy’s again are awesome, the Japanese federations and their technical style and other indys ie ROH, LAW. I love them all.

Peter) : Who do you like to watch or learn from?

MTX) : Jerry Lynn, Eddie Guerrero, Rob Van Dam, Lance Storm.

Peter) : Is there anything you'd like to promote, or anyone you'd like to thank?

MTX) : I would like to thank you for this opportunity, and promote the tv programs ‘How not to die : (urban)’ this Thursday 9pm 8/9/05 and ‘pilot chicken run’ soon to be on your tv; on Sky One, and channel 4 respectively.

Peter) : Thank you for your time, it’s much appreciated!
