Marcus Kool Interview

By P.Staniforth 2005.

Peter) What made you want to become a wrestler?

Marcus) I grew up watching Wrestling as a little kid. I was hooked on it the moment i saw it, everything about it amazed me. My first memories when i first really realised i wanted to become a Pro was through watching Bret Hart, but then the Stone Cold era come along and that was me hooked for life.

Peter) How did you get started in the business, and who trained you?

Marcus) Being from Birmingham i found the nearest place to train which was K-Star, I was trained by a guy called Carl Mizzery, when i first started out i was determined to be the best, i wanted to be the best student, so i bust my ass every week, simple as.

Peter) What were your first matches like?

Marcus) Most say there first matches were terrible, me on the other hand, i'll go the other way. My first match, debut was against a wrestler i highly rate called Sal Americana, really unrecognised in the UK Scene. The match meant a lot to me as i trained for a year and a half rock solid to get to that position. A lot of people were expecting highly of me so i had a lot of pressure, to this day its one of my favourite matches. I think that gave me a lot of confidence going into other matches after that as i werent a complete flop, i knew i could do it.

Peter) For those seeing you for the first time, or have only heard your name - how would you describe yourself as a wrestler?

Marcus) Well as you know i go by the name of Marcus Kool. I have a strong passion for what i do in the ring, i dont want people to think they've wasted there money to come and see me. Im an entertainer at heart so love to get the crowd involved in some way or the other. I interact quite a lot with the audience whether through speech or body language. My entrance theme is 'Let Me Entertain You' so id like to think that when people hear that there ready to be entertained. My moves consist of, as i like to call them 'entertaining moves' such as highflying (moonsaults etc) quick fast paced moves. Im not a spot man though, i like to include psychology, otherwise the audeince are like...ok, why has he done that, entertaining is all about gripping your audeince. I dont want people to get bored by watching me, i want them to be making noise one way or the other.

Peter) What are your feelings on working for 1PW?

Marcus) I cant wait to be a part of 1PW. Its an honour to be performing on the same show with such other big names on there, people who i look up to in the business. It will be a great experience for me, and hopefully i'll learn a lot from it. I'm out there to impress though, as usual, so hopefully i'll get recognised a bit more. Id like to thank YOU, Peter for booking me on the show, it means a lot mate, cheers.

Peter) A little about yourself - what do you like to do in your spare time?

Marcus) Whatever im doing it has to be fun, i love laughing, its the best medicine you'll ever recieve so im out doing that most of the time. I do performing arts whenever i can, i love the stage and being in front of an audience, such a buzz. Other than that ill be hitting the gym, i like to look good whilst in the ring lol. But yeah, pretty ordinary life, watching comedy, studying wrestling to learn and learn and learn. And most people dont know this, but im a Robbie Williams fanatic, the guy is awesome, a born entertainer.

Peter) Who are your friends in the business?

Marcus) My main friend in the business is Danny Devine. I dont really hang around with anyone outside of the business apart from Dan, hes a top bloke, one of the most genuine people ive ever met in this business. Im round his house most weekends studying wrestling together and training, you'll never meet anyone nicer in the business than Danny Devine. Other than Dan i have friends who i trust and listen to, Spud gives me a lot of advice which i appreciate and i tend to have a beer with him every now and then. British Born Steel, Sal Americana, there probably the main people i keep in touch with when not backstage.

Peter) Who do you like to watch wrestle, and learn from?

Marcus) Theres a lot of people i watch and take things from, everyone has there own variety or working, i like to learn from a range of people and turn it into my own style. Ive always idolised Stone Cold growing up as a kid, so he'll always be my main man to watch, to eb that popular he must be doing something right. Other than him i like to watch Shawn Michaels, probably the best performer in the ring, AJ Styles, simply awesome, just the way they do certain things just makes me watch them, there psycholoy and execution of moves are pure class.

Peter) What are your plans for the future?

Marcus) I'd love to be wrestling over seas doing some work over there and making a name for myself on the UK Scene, that would be a dream come true, and then if i ever achieve that, hopefully move on to bigger things, who knows, hey? I Should be going to train with Lance Storm's school in October which will be a great experience, just take the days as they come.

Peter) Anything you'd like to promote that you're doing, or believe in?

Marcus) Just to let people to know to look out for the name Marcus Kool, im out to impress and make a name for myself. Come along to the 1PW show if you can, it should be a class event, and i promise that ill be giving 110%. Or if you see my name about booked for a show, i should have a few next month, then try and make it along, i wont disappoint lol. Thanks for the interview, and cheers for anyone who read.
