Ruckus Interview.
By P.Staniforth 2003.

Any occasion you get the opportunity to interview someone who you really love to watch work, just cannot be turned down at all. This may well be my greatest interview achievement - getting the best high flyer on the indy circuit to sit down long enough to do an interview!!! I'm a huge fan of the man with the Razzle Dazzle, and with pride; I bring you my latest interview - Combat Zone Wrestling's own, Ruckus.

PETER) : Pleasure to have you here, my friend. How did you first get into professional wrestling?

RUCKUS) : Well, growing up I always liked to watch wrestling. I first started watching it with my grandfather. He would always have either the AWA, NWA, or the WWF on the television; all the time. The first time I saw a match that really made me want to become a wrestler, it was Randy Savage vs Ted DiBiase. The match was great and it really stuck out in my mind. I guess I was about 8 years old when i started wrestling in school, and from that time till 12th grade I wrestled and doing the summers I would teach myself how to flip; and I would backyard wrestle with my friends.

PETER) : A friend of mine, Dames of www.thesmartmarks.com says he remembers you in backyard wrestling, when you were wrestling under your real name. He asks do you still keep in touch with people from those days, and did anyone you wrestled with make it in the business like yourself?

RUCKUS) : Yeah, backyard wrestling was fun. We did not do the type of backyard wrestling you see on those dvds or anything though. We had a proper ring and we did not use weapons and such, though we did do a lot of high flying. The fed was called HCW (Hardcore Championship Wrestling), and we would sell like a hundred tapes a month; it was crazy. Hurricane Kid was in that fed with me, as you know he is now in CZW; as well as Sonjay Dutt who was a good friend back then as well .I am still good friends with all those guys.

PETER) : Sonjay is a great guy, I have the pleasure of speaking with him online sometimes. So, how did you get your break with CZW?

RUCKUS) : Well, Hurricane Kid and I had 3 shows in one day. The first started at 3pm in Maryland, the second started at 5pm in Delaware; and the last at 7 in New Jersey. When we got to the last show it was like 9.30pm, and our match was up next. It was a small show, there was like 15 people in there; but out of the 15 were Dewey, Natasha, Ed O'Mac and Dennis Shock who all worked for CZW. They saw our match and went back and told John Zandig about it, and 2 months later I got the call to try out and that was that.

PETER) : Another question from someone else - My best friend Tommy, in Devon, England... When did you realise you were capable of such incredible moves as the Razzle Dazzle, and Poetic Ruckus; as just two examples?

RUCKUS) : Well, when i was like 12 years old; a few kids I went to school with would go to the park at lunch time and have these flip offs with each other. There would be like 15 kids all doing these crazy flips. They were running up walls and doing backflips and then they were doing like 10 backflips in a row. So one day I watched them and then I would try to do them at home on my bed. I did this every day till i got it right. I just use what I learned back then in the ring today.

PETER) : It sure does work as your matches have the ability to leave the person viewing it breathless! What would you say have been your best moments and matches in CZW so far?

RUCKUS) : My best moments would be any of the following - 1) Winning the BJW and CZW titles wrestling at the first Best Of The Best, 2) Looking at how we packed Viking Hall (the old ECW arena) at Cage Of Death 3, and 3) Being cool with the CZW locker room (all those guys are great) and going to Japan. My best matches I would say have been - against Trent Acid (at Enough is Enough, Cage Of Death 3,and Live Again), against Adam Flash (at Process of Elimination), against Derek Frazier (at Highstakes), against Tony Mamaluke (at Best Of The Best 2) and also myself vs Sonjay Dutt vs Chris Cash (at Night of Infamy).

PETER) : How would you describe the locker room atmosphere in CZW? What do you think of the hardcore side of the promotion, have youever had the desire to do it?

RUCKUS) : It's like a family in CZW. Everyone looks out for the next guy. As for the hardcore part, I have much respect for the ones who go out there and do that. But as for me doing it.... I guess I would, I have not yet but who knows?

PETER) : What are your thoughts on the WWE and NWATNA? And other indy promotions?

RUCKUS) : I think the WWE is cool, and I like TNA also. To be honest, I think all wrestling is pretty much good. I watch a lot of indy stuff, but I love to watch old NWA and WWF tapes too. I love Japanese wrestling and to watch 2 cold scorpio tapes.

PETER) : A man after my heart, as I will watch anything at all. Now, from a personal standpoint; have you ever had the urge to come over to England and wrestle?

RUCKUS) : All the time! I have never been there so i think it would be fun. Plus you guys have some good wrestlers, I really like working with Jodie Fleisch.

PETER) : Jodie is one of our finest. Question again from my friend Tommy - You've been teaming with another CZW wrestler I've (Peter) had the pleasure of interviewing recently, Sonjay Dutt. This has to be considered somewhat of a 'Dream Team'. How has it been so far?

RUCKUS) : Well, it's kind of funny really. I first heard of Sonjay while I was still wrestling backyard. We would always have stupid fights over who was the best high flyer, and we would talk on the net but had never met before. I saw him a few years later at a indy show, and we knew who each other were and have been good freinds since. Us teaming togather is cool, as we do a lot of the same stuff which makes it easier as we can come up with cool tag moves. But as of how long we will be a team only time will tell.

PETER) : What are your plans for the future? Anything you'd like to promote?

RUCKUS) : Honestly, I really just live for the day. I hope one day to be in the big time, like many other wrestlers do. But if not, it's no big deal. CZW is going to Italy soon, so that should be really cool. I myself, am about to watch The Stoned Age on dvd, it's an awesome movie that's loved by everyone in the CZW locker room - go rent it! Other than that, I just want to say 'What's up!' to everyone over in England, and to stay cool.

PETER) : Will try to, but it's hard to be as cool as you mate! Thanks ever so much for your time in this interview.

RUCKUS) : Thank you.
