Rush Margera Interview
By Peter Staniforth 2003
----------------------------------------

Promoting young talent time, for yours truly. One of the future stars of the business, recommended my way by Corvis Fear; and currently wrestling for Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW). This, is Rush Margera....

PETER) - Great to talk to you, tell us about your childhood and growing up.

RUSH) - When I was growing up, I was always doing a sport. I took Tae Kwon Do
for 7 years and received the 2nd degree black belt status. I always watched wrestling and knew that I wanted to be a wrestler when I gotolder. I am only 17, so I have quite a bit more growing up to do.

PETER) - Cheers mate, that's just made me feel really old! For those who dont know, it's my birthday this month (July). How did you first find wrestling?

RUSH) - My grandfather and dad got me into it. For training, I met a wrestler Dave Winant who wrestles as New Wave, and he got me started. New Wave trained me a lot of the way. Magic, who trains at BWO in NJ also helped me out. I also learned a lot from just simply working with different people, which I enjoyed because I was able to learn different styles.

PETER) - What was your first match like?

RUSH) - My first match was a battle royal that went into a 4 way at the end.
It was at SWF in Sayerville, NJ. The last four wrestlers were myself, New Wave, Tek, and John Bowes. I beat New Wave after the other two were eliminated by a spin kick to a chair into his face when he attacked me with it.

PETER) - What do you like to do in your spare time away from wrestling?

RUSH) - When I am not wrestling I go to school and work or just hang out with
the guys. I also study my tapes to try and perfect my wrestling.

PETER) - What would you consider your best match so far? Any bad matches yet?

RUSH) - I would say my best match was in Delaware. It was my first one on one
match. I wrestled New Wave, who gave me the chance so he could see what
I could do. His exact words were, "I am going to pitch you the ball. Just don't drop it". I don't remember my worst match too well, the only thing I remember was it was at a BWO show. A lot of changes were made and it got very confusing!

PETER) - A young guy in a business like this, must make a lot of friends. Want to share some of them with us?

RUSH) - I look at everyone at my training school as a friend. The ones I hang out with out of training are New Wave, Brian Baker, Tek, John Bowes, Savior, and Corvis Fear. I enjoy working with everyone because I like meeting new people and learning different peoples styles.

PETER) - Yes, I do wish people would realise that the best thing about wrestling is making friends and the experiences that come along with it; instead of being selfish and out for number one all the time. How do you feel about the current state of the WWE?

RUSH) - The WWE is at the state it was during the beginning/middle of the Ratings Wars. It isn't as good as it was in the attitude era, but everyone goes into a slump sooner or later. Watching WWE is how I started liking wrestling, it is my roots; and I will never abandon my roots.

PETER) - And the main competition, NWA-TNA? Your thoughts on them?

RUSH) - NWA-TNA is a awesome product. It seems very good for Indy wrestlers
because they can work that on Wednesdays and still work other shows on the weekend. The independent scene is awesome right now. There is a lot of talent out there and it makes many shows top quality!

PETER) - Firmly agree with you, there. This is why I do what I do, to bring that talent to a bigger stage of attention. Who do you like to watch wrestle?

RUSH) - My favorite wrestlers are Rob Van Dam, Shawn Micheals, the late Owen
Hart, and all cruiserweights. They all have their own wrestling talents, which make their matches entertaining.

PETER) - And how would you describe yourself as a wrestler?

RUSH) - I would describe my wrestling as a High Flyer/ Lucha Libre. I love wrestling quick, which I think makes the crowd entertained. I try to incorporate every type of style into a match though. If you tell a story in the ring, the crowd will want more.

PETER) - Any cruiserweight who realises the importance of psychology, is fine in my book. Nothing worse than high spots for no reason, and yet there's nothing better than a worker who knows what to do and when to do it and make it mean something. What do you have in mind for the future?

RUSH) - I hope the future holds big things for me. I will enjoy wrestling anywhere. I just love wrestling, the simple boo's and cheer's from the fans make me 100% satisfied. I will wrestle as long as I can, I will do it for the love of it. I hope to be on TV one day, and I will work my butt off every second to get to the highest part of this great business I possibly can!

PETER) - And I'm personally betting you make it big. Thanks for your time, my friend.

RUSH) - Thank You.
