Zack McGuire Interview. By P.Staniforth (December 2004).
Heres an interview with one of my best friends in the wrestling business, a top tip of mine to make it on a bigger stage in the future the Twisted Angel Zack McGuire.
PETER) : Thanks for making the time for this interview. Can I begin by asking about your childhood?
ZACK) : It was good, as I was around the pro wrestling industry because of my dad Kenny McGuire; who was a jobber for WCW and Jerry Jarrett's USWA. My mom and dad had to take good care of me when I was younger, because of my being 90 percent deaf; and also having Bi-Polar and obsessive compulsive disorders. I have two siblings, Brandon who also wrestles and Kelly who is trying to become a doctor. Most of my childhood was very hard, due to the fact people made fun of me in school and called me names because I was the only one in the school that was deaf. I was on the road with my dad when he wrestled the indy's along with the rest of my family, which was good. I had a 3.5 GPA in my school years and made the honour roll in three of the four years of high school. Other than that everything else was a normal childhood, but luckily with a great family that supports me in any way they can.
PETER) : So, it must have been at an early age; but do you remember when you first viewed wrestling?
ZACK) : I was about four years old when my dad would suplex me on the bed! I used to play-wrestle when I was around that age, in fact I did superfly splashes off the top on my dad. Then when I turned ten years old, dad had a school called Bonecrushers and I used to play in the ring. Then he quit training people, and about five years later my dad started training me and my brother at a school in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was when I was fifteen and my brother was fourteen years old.
PETER) : Did you know you wanted to be a wrestler, or did it just kind of happen by surprise?
ZACK) : I kind of knew it was going happen as far as being around it my whole life.
PETER) : So, how did you get your first break in the business?
ZACK) : I got my first break from my dad who spoke to the owner of the WCWO in Indiana, in which I worked my brother at the age of seventeen at a show in Greenburg, Indiana.
PETER) : Who trained you to wrestle?
ZACK) : I was trained by my dad Kenny McGuire, and then Brian Beech who helped with some pointers.
PETER) : Looking back, how would you consider your early matches?
ZACK) : They were highflying matches which was the style I chose to do. They were good but could have been better as I was green at the time.
PETER) : How would you describe yourself as a wrestler?
ZACK) : I would consider myself a death defying high flyer, with technical skills.
PETER) : What would you consider your favourite match or show that youve been involved in?
ZACK) : My favourite match was against Sammie Carelli, who is my brother; at the debut of my and my fathers company which is called Queen City Wrestling.
PETER) : Who do you consider your friends in the business?
ZACK) : You, Peter. Also, the recently signed by the WWE Brian Carlucchi, Psycho Sam Cody, my dad, my brother, the QCW stable, American Kickboxer, Tarek The Great, Brian Beech, and Tim Tatum and Skunk; the two best referees in the biz that I know.
PETER) : Thank you, and believe me the feeling is mutual. And American Kickboxer is a shared friend of ours, one whos friendship I very much enjoy. What would you feel has been your lowest point in wrestling so far?
ZACK) : I would say injuries from landing on my head so many times, and constant nagging pains in the neck.
PETER) : What do you like to do in your spare time?
ZACK) : I like to work out, play video games, watch wrestling tapes to learn more, to go training; and hanging out with friends and family. PETER) : What five words do you feel describe you best?
ZACK) : Crazy, loco, outgoing, intelligent, spontaneous.
PETER) : What are your current plans for the future?
ZACK) : I plan to work hard to try and be the best at what I do, to make a name for myself; and inspire those that are handicapped and that feel they can't do things and help them change that and to help them to feel something positive. And last but not least, I want to entertain the fans and give them their money's worth - no matter if there is one fan or one hundred thousand fans.
PETER) : What are your thoughts on WWE and TNA, and the indy's?
ZACK) : WWE It needs to have more cruiserweights and let the divas wrestle more because most of them are very talented given the chance. TNA - I think they need a woman's division because the women in the company have great talent other than that everything else is running smooth. And the indys - Let it be a place where younger workers can learn to become better wrestlers.
PETER) : Who do you like to watch or learn from?
ZACK) : I learn from AJ Styles, Jack Evans, Jody Fleisch, Dragon Kid, and believe it or not WWE diva Victoria because she is very talented.
PETER) : I do believe it, and know one or two other workers who look to her wrestling abilities to learn from. To wrap up, is there anything you'd like to promote, or anyone you'd like to thank?
ZACK) : Well, Queen City Wrestling celebrated its one year anniversary on November 20, this year. If youre in Ohio, or visiting check us out at www.queencitywrestling.com for more details. And last but not least, thank you.
PETER) : The pleasure has been mine. All the best for the future, my friend.
