CSWF

CyberSpace Wrestling Federation returned to the PAL in Wayne, NJ on February 21st with Super Brawl Saturday.

The doors opened early (I assume by accident from the look on Dave Levy's face) at around 6:15. Belltime was 7:30 and the show started only a few minutes late. The CSWF easily doubled their last show's attendancewith 150 paid (and we counted at least that many in attendance).

Luminaries in attendance included Chris Candido, Tammy Sytch, Simply Luscious, Alere Little Feather, and Johnny Candido.
Photographers at ringside included Sure Shot Scott and Eric "Get out of my way already" Rosen.
Referees for the evening are Ref Hanson and Paul Turner.

The show began with a new, unnamed ring announcer. Unfortunately, the sound system sucked. With the speakers placed way in the back of the venue, and the layout of the venue, nothing could be heard clearly. The ring announcer seemed to welcome the fans to “CAF”.

The referee came to the ring with the CSWF Cruiserweight Belt. Mike Tenay, Crowbar, America’s Most Wanted, Trinity, Ron Killings, and Michael Shane came to the ring to talk about how Rob Eckos has been stripped of the title. Tenay demanded the belt be brought to the ring and given to Shane. (Mike, the belt’s already in the ring). Larry Zbyszko comes to the ring to announce the opponent for the match… Dan Barry (who was accompanied to the ring by Mana, Miss Asia, and Destiny). Trinity was trying to get into a verbal exchange with a fan at ringside but, not having been a heel all that long, she had to rely on AMW for some comebacks. Unfortunately, the best they could come up with was, “Brush your teeth!”

Crowbar rings the bell about 40 times to start the match. The crowd was completely behind Michael Shane even though he mocked them constantly. The two men worked on each other’s shoulders. They fell to the floor where Barry got the upper hand. Back in the ring, Barry hit a tornado DDT then climbed to the top rope. Shane moved out of the way of Barry’s moonsault and followed it up with a downward spiral. Mana tripped Shane, which forced the ref to go to the floor at ringside and send Mana to the back. While the ref was taking care of Mana, Tracy Brooks made a surprise appearance and ran in through the crowd. Tracy hit a low blow on Barry, which set him up for a Michael Shane superkick. The ref turned around in time to see Shane make the cover and he made the three count. (Luckilly the surprise was kept from the majority of the fans. The one down point to doing this whole website stuff is the fact that very few surprises are surprises for me anymore.)

Post match: Shane teases the crowd asking if they want to see Tracy’s puppies. Tracy teases that she will show them. Instead, she only shows Shane. Shane declares that the title will now be transformed into the X Division title and he places red tape on the belt. Great move to have Tracy run in to help her fellow Triple Threat family member. Let's just hope Shane Douglas is not going to join them here in the near future.

It seems we now have a new ring announcer, Cindy Rogers.

Next up is a tag match with Romeo Valentino and Tyler Payne with Miss Michelle. They are up against Shawn Sheridan and his “mystery partner” Dave Greco. Greco announced that he found an even better partner for Sheridan and introduced Mega!

This was a good comedy match. Sheridan is awesome on the mic, and off. Greco refused to buy Mega a soda (even though money was donated from fans at ringside). Finally, one of the kids in the front row ran and got Mega a soda to enjoy during the match. Sheridan hit a nice corkscrew plancha to his opponents on the floor. Payne hit a slingshot suplex on Sheridan for a 2 count. Mega and Sheridan took control of the match until Miss Michelle hit Greco with a low blow at ringside. Mega was distracted and tried to aid Greco. Tyler quickly pinned Sheridan while Mega was distracted.

Post match: Mega double chokeslammed Valentino and Payne before he kissed and spanked Miss Michelle.

The next match saw Mana (with Miss Asia and Destiny) destroy “Adrenaline” Brian Fury, only to lose by DQ. Mana hit Fury with everything. A senton splash, a second rope samoan drop, a diamond cutter, tons of chops and headdbutts gave Mana the easy advantage. Mana got carried away and threw the ref which caused for his disqualification.

Post match: Mega entered the ring and faced off with Mana. The two exchange blows. Larry Zbyszko came to ringside to do something but no one could hear a thing.

In a tag match, Fire and Smoke (otherwise known as the promoter and his friend) defeated the Philadelphia Playas (Aaron Hood and Gemini) in a match that was painful to watch. Firehawk came to ringside giving the finger to everyone in attendance. The act that there were a LOT of kids there obviously didn’t make a difference to him. He then proceeded to give the kids the DX crotch chop before telling them from the ring apron, “I’ll put my foot up your ass.” (Remember to read Firehawk’s 10 Questions from last year to see how he says it’s not about ego and how he’s removing himself from the shows and how he wants to put on the best show to get fans to return next time). If the only way you can get heat is to stoop to cursing at kids, maybe you shouldn’t be a heel.

The match started off with the Philadelphia Playas dominating Smoke for several minutes. Hood hit an amazing slingshot legdrop from the ring apron onto Smoke. Hood then climbed to the top rope. Firehawk came in and he and Smoke slammed Hood to he canvas. All of a sudden this went from a tag match to a no DQ Texas Tornado Match? Fire and Smoke double-teamed both men. They hit a double DDT on Hood and Firehawk made the cover for the pinfall. No matter how hard the Playas tried (and hell, even Smoke sold well) nothing could cover up the blatant no selling of Firehawk. The promoter works a total of one minute and scores the pinfall. Remember kids; it’s not about ego. Let’s see how many of those150 fans return to see this family entertainment next time. (BTW. No Vanity at ringside, which would have at least distracted us from the match).

The Internet Championship was on the line as Justin Powers defended his title against Crazy Ivan (with Destiny and Miss Asia). They claim to have no ticket sellers in CSWF. I’d love to know how Powers got on the show, and is a champion. Ivan dominated the opening minutes of the match. Destiny held Powers for Ivan to hit him with Miss Asia’s riding crop. Unfortunately, Asia forgot to distract the ref until Ivan had to tell her to. Props to Destiny for being able to keep a straight face while going through all this. Ivan came off the top rope with an elbow but landed full weight to the back of Powers head. OUCH! Justin hit a northern lights suplex which he then rolled into two more. A quick headscissor takedown on Ivan for a three count. Of course, the fact that Powers’ legs kept Ivan’s shoulders off the mat, made no difference.

Larry Zbyszko came out to make some announcements on the sound system that wasn’t. He mentioned that the winner of the elimination match later in the evening would get a title shot at the belt of his choice. He also announced that Miss Asia would be fined $5000 for what Mana did earlier. Asia and Destiny came out. Asia began yelling at Zbyszko. Zbyszko asked Destiny to interpret. Unfortunately, everything Asia said was in English so what the hell had to be interpreted?

Zbyszko said he would not be able to be at CSWF all the time so he was going to introduce his Lieutenant Commissioner, JD Dreamer. Dreamer relinquished his Hardcore Title and said there will be a tournament with the bloodiest wrestlers sometime in the future. (I hope they are not bloody prior to the tournament). He then wanted to say something about PWI magazine but even Zbyszko pointed out how Bill Apter (who was doing commentary at rinside) now worked for Total Wrestling magazine. Maybe if the sound system was better it all would have made sense.

Someone from Ken Shamrock’s Lion Den came out to plug an upcoming training camp with Ricky Steamboat, Chris Candido, and Danny Doring. He introduced Chris Candido, who started plugging the camp. Again, the mic sucked and no one could really hear Chris. Chris, who is one of the greatest mic workers of all time started screaming the information to the fans. It was hilarious as he would go from one side of the ring to the other screaming, “I SAID IT WILL BE IN PATTERSON, NJ!”. Chris then told the fans if they wanted more information they could “See me at the gimmick table, see him (the Lion’s Den guy), see her (Cindy Rogers), see Bill Apter or see my longtime friend for many years WrestlingClothesline.Schwan.” Thanks Chris for the numerous plugs and for yelling at me when I was trying to record what was going on! LOL

The next match was an elimination match. Grim Reefer with Nick Maddux, Curt Daniels with Tara Charisma, Rapid Fire Maldanado, and Prince Nana were the competitors. Very good match that was fast paced. Nana was eliminated first by Rapid Fire. Daniels pinned Maldanado. Reefer then scored the victory over Daniels when Maddux grabbed Daniel’s leg during a suplex attempt.

The #1 Conteder to the CSWF Tag Team Title was on the line next as The Solution with “Sure Thing” John Shane faced America’s Most Wanted. The crowd seemed to love AMW. The Solution did a lot o stalling in the beginning before Havok began to dominate Harris. The tables were turned as AMW got the upper hand on Papadon. Shane tripped Harris, which allowed Havok to hit a Samoan Drop followed by a Senton Splash. AMW fought back and hit a Hart Attack on Papadon for a two count (when Shane pulled the ref out of the ring). Harris speared Papadon. Havok speared Storm. John Shane was able to get brass knuckles to Havok while the ref was distracted. Havok hits Harris with the knucks and Papadon gets the three count. Tara Charisma comes out to convince the ref that Solution cheated. AMW hit their finisher on ref Hanson. Tara hits Shane with the brass knucks. The Solution are still the winners and #1 contenders. Shane challenges Tara to a match. JD Dreamer comes out to announce a match between the two of them on April 24th. If Dreamer is the Lieutenant Commissioner, and the actual commissioner is IN ATTENANCE, why is he making these decisions?

The CSWF Women’s Title was on the line next as Trinity defended against Ariel. April Hunter was the special referee (and DAMN did she look good in that ref top!). April made sure to count fast when Trinity tried to leave the ring and she counted slowly whenever Trinity went for a pinfall. Ariel got in a few offensive maneuvers but wasn’t given the opportunity to feature her true talent. Trinity hit a 619, followed by a moonsault for the pinfall.

Post match: April and Trinity face off. Tracy Brooks comes in from behind and hits April in the back with her cast.

The main event of the night was Ron Killings defending the CSWF Title against Slyk Wagner Brown with April Hunter. Larry Zbyszko was the special referee. Some good comedy spots at the beginning with Killings pretending to be punched by Slyk on a break. The third time, Zbyszko caught Killings clapping and faking the punch. Slyk took quick control of the match but before you knew it Killings hit the Hat Rack Crack for the pinfall and the match was over. Very disappointing finish to a surprisingly short match.

The show ran almost 4 hours, starting at 7:30 and ending a little before 11:30. It was a very long night. The opening match was long but good. The tag match which was up second was a good comedy bout. Mana came off looking like a monster (as he should) by destroying Fury. The Philadelphia Playas tried their best but when you are put in the ring with the promoter who insists he is the star of the match, what can you do? Justin Powers holding any title shows that the title has no meaning. (Like an Internet Championship has any meaning anyway?) Candido was awesome on the mic. Reefer v Nana v Maldanado v Daniels was a very good match. AMW v Solution had the crowd more vocal than any CSWF show in the past. The Solution winning the match was a great surprise. Trinity's in ring skills have improved as are her skills as a heel (as long as she stops taking tips from AMW.) Unfortunately, Ariel was not allowed to show what she could really do as the match was more of a set up for April v Tracy next time. Slyk v Killings was ruined by a horrible ending, but that is not anyone’s fault but the person who booked the finish.

The next CSWF show is April 24th (one day after my birthday). Already announced are Ron Killings vs Al Snow, Tara Charisma vs Sure Thing John Shane with one arm tied behind his back, April Hunter vs Tracy Brooks, and Grim Reefer vs Michael Shane. I hope, for CSWF’s sake, the people who attended this show decide to return in April. If the CSWF can tighten up the show a bit and not have 10 matches run 4 hours that would be an improvement. If they could cut back on the number of unnecessary matches that involve the promoter that would be a HUGE improvement. If they could get a sound system that works, or at least move the speakers closer to the ring, it would be an improvement. If they cut back on the number of promos (especially when they know the mic sucks) it would be an improvement.

CSWF has the talent they just need to use it all correctly and book it into decent and innovative angles (How many times do we have to see Miss Asia do nothing at ringside on one show? Exactly what is Destiny’s role in Miss Asia’s camp? Why is a lieutenant commissioner making decisions when the commissioner is there?)

CSWF continues to make improvements with every show. Unfortunately, with every 2 or 3 steps forward, they take a step back. If they can continue to draw a crowd and fix the errors from show to show, they should be able to strive in a market that is dying.

POST SHOW:

After the show we headed to Stiletto's in Carlstadt, NJ. If you haven't been to Stiletto's, you should give it a shot as it is easily the best club in the NJ area. Stiletto's was pretty empty for 12:30 on a Saturday. Lot's of new girls since our last visit. The only reason I was there, however, was to see Darian Caine. Feel free to check her out at darksideofdariancaine.com or dariancaine.com.

Darian is the best as she is not only a sweetheart but she is as demented and sarcastic as I am. Darian came over and told us if we found a girl we wanted a dance with to tell her first so she could tell us if the girl was worth it! She also apologized to us for our not having more fun at the CSWF show. We chatted with Darian for a while before she hit the stage. While I get to see her at Chiller Theatre twice a year, I haven't seen her dance in two years. Damn! I have to go back to Stiletto's, when she's working, more often. The fact that when she hit the stage they changed the shitty techno and pop music to some rock and metal was enough to put her over in my book. Darian came over after she was done and stage and asked if any of us were ready for a dance. I told her yes and she asked with who. Hello!! It's been two years since I've seen you here and over 5 since I had a dance! Who the hell do you think I want a dance with? (BTW, if you do ever go to Stiletto's and Darian is working, GET A DANCE!)

Darian, who at one time would never miss a Raw episode talked about how much wrestling sucked now and how much she hates Brock Lesnar (even if he isn't Russian). She also talked about the company she used to work for and how thing are going with them (more on that when the time arrives) and how she may move to California in the near future. The day she moves to CA, I'm moving to CA as her new full time bodyguard and videographer.

By the time I was done getting some dances with Darian, Frank had disappeared into the back room with some girl. What COULD have been a fairly early evening, leaving Stiletto's at 2:30 ended up being a little later as Frank didn't get out of the back room until 3:20!! Thanks Frank! Darian and I said goodbye but we shall see each other at Chiller (which I will at least go to on Friday night to see Darian). We got in the car and Ron was asleep before we got out of the parking lot (which he always seems to do YET he always wakes up as soon as we're within 2 miles of his place).
