The New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC) returned to the Deer Park Community Center on Saturday, February 28th, with another edition of "Rampage".

Pre show, Jim Brambilla (making his first trek to NY for a wrestling show), Sidekick Ron, Frank and I decided to grab a bite to eat at the Beachtree (since Bennigans supposedly has "bad service"). Our waitress, Lara, easily kept Ron in his place and the food was very good. I'm sure Brams will have more to say about his trip out, the ride to Beachtree with Ron, and more in his report. (But no matter what complaints he has about driving to NY he can say nothing if you look at how many times I have had to drive to NJ, CT, PA, DE, or God knows where else in bumblefuck USA over the past how many years.)

Off to the community center where there was already a nice line forming outside at 6pm. Doors opened at 6:30 and the fans were let in.

The show began at 7:07.

Your ring announcer for the evening: Nick Vrona

Nick Vrona then introduced the NYWC announce team, who for some reason not only gets an introduction BUT have their own entrance music.

Head Referee, Chris Jackson was also introduced.

Luminaries in attendance include Joe Evak and his friend (sorry I forgot the name), Robert Franklin, and Doug (who has no last name).

The first match of the evening was for the NYWC Light Heavyweight Championship as champion Dan Barry took on Grim Reefer. Awesome match to start off the show with. It would have been an awesome match no matter where it was placed on the show. Both men showed a ton of offense. They spilled to the floor where Barry hit Reefer with a superkick. Barry followed up with a senton off the ring apron that Reefer was able to avoid. Barry misses an Asai moonsault. Reefer does a modified burning hammer into the turnbuckles. Barry is hanging (tree of woe style) when Reefer grabs him for a vicious piledriver! Handspring elbow by Reefer that is blocked by a Barry spin kick. Barry attempts his Irish Car Bomb but Reefer reverses it with a Tornado DDT. Reefer misses a springboard swanton. Reefer gets thrown out of the ring. Barry hits a phenomenal pescada into a DDT on the floor. Reefer with a neckbreaker which he follows through into a suplex into a neckbreaker across the top rope that knocks Barry to the floor. Frog splash onto the floor by Reefer. Back in the ring Barry gets the upper hand. As Barry goes for the pin, the bell rings. The 20 minute time limit has expired.

NYWC Commissioner, John Curse comes out to tell the fans he likes to give the people what they like to see so, in honor of their 1st Year Anniversary he would like to see the two men go 5 more minutes.

Barry runs into a tombstone piledriver. Reefer flies off the top rope with a flying forearm. Reefer hits a missile drop-kick. Both men on the ring apron where Barry hits an Impaler onto Reefer onto the apron! Reefer applies a Crossface to Barry. Barry fights it off as long as he can. The bell rings, Barry taps. The time limit expired before Barry tapped so the match is declared a time limit draw. Your champion remains Dan Barry. Phenomenal work by both men. Even if it is the first match, it may be safe to say this was match of the night.

John Curse comes to the ring to announce that Dickie Rodz will not be facing Maison Raige. Instead he will be facing Dynasty Dan. Raige and Crusher Doogan come out. Doogan challenges Curse to a match against Raige. If Raige wins, Doogan becomes the new NYWC Commissioner. If Curse wins, Raige leaves NYWC and Doogan becomes Curse's personal valet. Curse gets the early advantage but Raige soon dominates the match. Raige puts Curse in a bearhug. Curse is able to chop his way out and counter with a DDT. Raige fights back and hits a Death Valley Driver on Curse for the pinfall. The new NYWC Commissioner is Crusher Doogan.

The third match of the evening features Maniac Mike Mayhem (who has 63 wins and 2 defeats) vs M-Tizzle Mike Tobin. I don't quite understand the "M-Tizzle" moniker as the only person whiter than Tobin is Wayne. The match starts off nicely with a series of moves by each man. Tobin gets knocked down and starts to get up. When Tobin is almost on his feet, Mayhem dropped an elbow on him!? Tobin with a flying cross body off the top rope. Asai moonsault by Mayhem, onto Tobin who was on the floor. Mayhem with a bodyscissors on Tobin. Tobin eventually got the pin with a rollup.

The next match is for the NYWC Interstate Championship. Dan "I stole Lana Star's gimmick" Dynasty vs Dickie Rodz (accompanied by Veronica Payne). Veronica at ringside walks directly into Dynasty. Someone needs to tell her to AVOID the opponent in the future. Fairly short match which saw Dickie win with a roll up (while holding the tights).

The NYWC Championship Match was announced as the next match. Tyler Payne was introduced. He got on the mic and began to harass the crowd. He then noticed former WWF Superstar, Marty Janetty in the crowd. He acknowledged Janetty and talked about the great matches he and Shawn Michaels had against the "Oriental Express and the Legion of Doom". (Note to Tyler... It's the Orient Express). He continued to put down Janetty for having to pay to see Tyler Payne wrestle while his former tag partner is main eventing WrestleMania in two weeks. Mikey comes to the ring and Marty makes his way to the ring, from the crowd. Mikey asks Janetty if he has his gear. Mikey then announces that it will be Marty Janetty, defending the belt on Mikey's behalf, against Tyler Payne. (Which is a good thing since I paid $25 to watch Mikey retire at a USA Pro show in Deer Park something like 2 years ago!) Marty gets on the mic and announces that he's "been all over the world, rockin and rollin, struttin and strollin, slammin and jammin, from Austin to Boston, Maine to Spain, and boy I will kick your ass tonight!"

We take a brief intermission for the ring ropes to be removed for the First Ever No Ropes Bunkhouse Brawl between Southern Vinny Stylin' and Tony Burma. The ropes are taken down by Spyder and Ken Scampi.

The ring is filled with bails of hay, a wheelbarrow, and a shovel. Stylin throws his shirt at a fan in the crowd. The fan nearly asphyxiated on it. Burma immediately attacked with a bail of hay followed by an air filter! Burma continued to dominate the match. Stylin soon regained control and suplexed Burma onto the hay. The two men fought in and out of the ring. Back in the ring, Stylin was put into the wheelbarrow and was wheeled from in the ring to the floor. Stylin made his way back into the ring and began stacking bales of hay in the ring. He and Burma, trading blows on top of the hay until Burma hits a Rock Bottom off the hay to the mat for the three count. Winner of the match: Tony Burma.

Intermission as we clean up the ring and put the ropes back up. Signing autographs in the other room were John Curse, Dan Barry, Foxxy Dreams and Damian Dragon, Mike Tobin, and Tara Charisma (who cheated at a show last week using brass knuckles to knock down Sure Thing John Shane!) I I also met "Slingblade Carl" (whom, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure has said some nasty things about me on message boards in the past, yet in person seemed to be very nice and have no problem with me. Hmmm. We'll have to see what his future posts look like :)

After intermission it somehow became Brambilla's Day Care Center as we were joined by a bunch of little kids and our honorary Crew member for the evening, Ferina. (Who even at 6 or 7 years old pointed out how hot Foxxy Dreams was).

First match after intermission is Damian Dragon with Foxxy Dreams against JD Lishus. Some nice chain wrestling to start until JD hits a spin kick on Damian. Slingshot swanton missed by Damian but he rolls to his feet to follow up with a fucked up (in a good way) move I can not even explain. Northern Lights suplex for a two count, by Damian. Sidekick by Damian knocks Lishus to the floor. Back in the ring, Damian goes for the Slice of Bread # 666 but gets kicked in the balls by Lishus. Lishus goes for a pin but Damian gets his foot on the rope. Foxxy points it out to the ref, who stops the count at 2. JD grabs Foxxy by the hair but she grabs his head and drops him throat first on the top rope. JD falls back into a roll up with a bridge by Damian.

The NYWC Tag Team Championship is on the line as Ru Star and Wayne defend the titles against Affirmative Action (Joey Braggiol and Lamar Braxton Porter with Prince Charles). Ru Star got on the mic to talk about how he is now tag champ with his arch enemy thanks to last months Psycho Circus (which is now available on video... cheap plug... you're welcome, Curse LOL). Affirmative Action beat the hell out of Wayne for the first 5 minutes of the match. Wayne makes the hot tag and Ru comes in. Atomic Drop on Porter. Reverse Atomic Drop on Joey. Clotheslines on both men. Drop-kicks on both men. Wayne comes in and rolls to the floor with Joey. Prince Charles gets on the ring apron. While arguing with the referee, he throws a foreign object to Lamar. Ru Star ducks it, grabs the object and hits Lamar with it. The ref turned around in time to see it and disqualified the tag champions. However, do to DQ, the champions remain Wayne and Ru Star. This seemed to shock Prince Charles as he must not watch much wrestling.

Next up, Maison Raige and Crusher Doogan interrupt the ring announcer. Tyler Payne carries Veronica Payne to the ring. Dan Barry runs in to make the save. As all three men beat down Barry, Veronica runs away. Ru Star makes his way in and helps with the beat down. Dickie Rodz hobbles to the ring carrying a chair. Before he even gets into the ring, the three heels run out the other side of the ring. Dickie gets in the ring and nails Barry in the head with the chair. Barry was carried out of the ring.

Nuke, with Tommy King faced off against Ken Scampi with Tara Charisma. Nuke looked like a giant lime while Scampi looked like a lemon. It was like watching Sprite battle itself. Tara was great as she took all my harassment. From wearing Marty Janetty's old ring gear to her cheating at a show last week, she took it all very well. Hell she even let me know that "happy people don't cheat!". As well as she took our vocal harassment, someone else wasn't as pleased with our comments during her stint at ringside earlier, but I won't mention any names ;) Scampi was able to get in a few moves on Nuke but Nuke completely overweighed and overpowered Scampi. Scampi grabbed Nuke's hand and walked the ropes (ala Undertaker) but was caught and powerbombed to the mat for the pinfall. Nuke grabs Tara but Spyder runs out. Spyder with a springboard hurracanrana that Nuke catches and reverses into a powerbomb. Nuke then grabs Tara and Rikishi Driver's her. Mega then comes out and the two big men exchange blows until a big boot knocks Nuke to the floor. Mega then helps Tara and her men to the back.

The main event is next as Marty Janetty defends the NYWC Title against Tyler Payne. Marty is in better shape now than he has been in years. He came to the ring to the Rocker music and in his Rocker gear and the crowd popped HUGE. Tyler stalled for the first 5 minutes or so, climbing the ropes to get a crowd reaction then challenging Marty to do the same. I yelled to Marty not to worry as we had time since it was early. Frank responded with, "Yeah, on the West Coast." The fourth time Marty climbed the ropes, Tyler attacked. Marty quickly hits a clothesline, knocking Tyler to the floor. Marty does the fist pump which the crowd completely marked out for (including us, and I am not ashamed to say it.) Atomic Drop followed by a Reverse Atomic Drop, followed by a clothesline by Marty. Tyler and Marty fall to the floor and Janetty is whipped into the ringpost and flies off it, into the guardrail. Marty attempted his flying fist off the top rope but was met with a boot to the face. Tyler gets the two count. Irish whip into the turnbuckle but the ref was in the way and got knocked down. Rocker Dropper by Marty. Second ref runs out to make a two count. Tyler kicks out, throwing Marty onto the second ref. The first ref, Chris Jackson, makes his way back to his feet. Payne whips ref 2 into Jackson. Jackson falls to the floor. Mikey Whipwreck runs out and pulls off Jackson's ref shirt. Tyler grabs a chair and is ready to hit Marty with it. Mikey puts the ref shirt on and runs into the ring. As Tyler is ready to hit Marty, Mikey taps his back. Tyler turns around Mikey pulls away the chair. . Janetty rolls up Tyler for a two count. Mikey hits a stunner on Tyler and Janetty makes the pinfall!! Tyler gets on the mic but Mikey stuns him again.

Mikey asks the crowd if they would like to see Marty return and announces that on March 20th it will be Mikey and Marty against Tyler Payne and the partner of his choice. Mikey walks around the crowd shaking hands after the show. I told him I paid $25 to see him retire. He told me "You can do it again in 2 years. I'll save you a ringside seat."

The NYWC returns to Deer Park on March 20th. They also have a show in East Hampton, NY on March 13th with Mikey Whipwreck v Tyler Payne, Tara Charisma vs Foxxy Dreams, Affirmative Action vs Los Luchas Hermanos, Nick Noshus v Damian Dragon and more. Tickets are only $15 for ringside seats, $12 for general admission, and $8 for kids under 12. For more information on how to purchase tickets, please call East Hampton High School at (631) 329-4130.

My 2 cents: I was unable to attend the last NYWC show, Psycho Circus, due to my trip to Vegas so I can not compare this show to that one. However, of all the NYWC shows I have attended, this has been my favorite. They have a new entrance way. They seem to have gotten a new sound system (or at least turned the speakers around to face the crowd) and the mic work can now be heard. They have a solid roster of wrestlers who get in the ring and give it 110% every time. Even the weakest match on the show was at least entertaining in some way, shape or form. They consistently draw a good crowd. Tonight seemed to be in the 250 - 300 range. Not only is it a good size crowd but a VOCAL one. Doogan and Raige were used well and the match with Curse was a good follow up to the amazing opener with Barry v Reefer. It will be a thrill to see these two have a rematch, with a longer time limit, in the future. I'll be honest and tell you that when Doogan got the "commissionership", I was scared that he would be out on the mic during every match. (Based on the last show I went to where he was out there constantly). He wasn't. Plus, when he was on the mic he did the job of getting whatever point across that he had to get across to the crowd. The demise of the Prince's Palace was a pleasure and his team of Affirmative Action was a great way to repackage Joey and Lamar. Congratulations to Lamar who will be heading down to OVW in a few weeks!! It's great to see another homegrown talent get a shot at the "big time". Wayne and Ru make a good team and Wayne got the crowd to pop for his antics. Nobody saw the Dickie Rodz heel turn coming. The Bunkhouse Brawl match was pulled off to perfection by Burma and Stylin. Damian v JD was also a great match with some phenomenal moves. Marty Janetty was not only a pleasant surprise but he impressed the hell out of everyone there as he works as good now, if not better than, when he was working in the WWF 10 years ago.

Post Show:

Brambilla had to go to a party on Sunday so he couldn't waste his time going out with his "friends" for a quick bite to eat or a beer after the show.

After being told by Damian Dragon to meet him and his better half outside so we could eat, we headed outside. We waited, and waited, and waited. Doug and his little brother (sorry I forgot his name) joined us as we continued to wait. Finally, Damian and Foxxy got their asses out to meet us. We headed for some post show food and conversation. I think the last time I have even seen Damian, Foxxy, and Doug was at their wedding (not all three of them got married, only Damian and Foxxy) in October. That seems wrong but if that's the case, we have to put an end to that now and hang out more often because they are three of the nicest people I have ever met and we can laugh for hours. Got to share some hilarious tales from the past few months and got to catch up on some stuff since we last sat down and had a real conversation. We learned that Foxxy not only does a great Blue from Blues Clues impersonation but she also wants "a gay guy, a cross dresser, a midget, or a DJ as a friend". We also learned to not ask for A1 sauce or the waiter will come over, with the look of death, and ask you what is wrong with your burger. Right, Damian? We also got more quotes, throughout the night, that will be on the quotes page in the near future. As we were finishing our meal, some of the NYWC crew came in to the bar. Curse, Mikey, Wayne, Tyler, Doogan, Marty, Dan Barry (who's webmaster SUCKS!) and a few others I missed came in. I had a chance to talk to Curse as well as Wayne for a few minutes. I don't care how many time Wayne denies it, I sent him 10 Questions, he lost them, asked me to resend them, I did, he lost them, asked me again, I resent them and I'm still waiting for answers. Wayne, you now owe me 30 answers!!!! All good things must come to an end and we parted ways.
