Weeks before the entire Feinstein fiasco, when we first saw the card announced for NYWC, Frank and I decided that we would skip the ROH show and make the trek to East Hampton to support Foxxy Dreams in her singles match against Tara Charisma. Having been friends with Foxxy for a while, and not having seen her wrestle any "actual" matches, we figured it would be worth the trip to East Hampton. Add to that the fact that NYWC is quickly becoming my favorite indy promotion and there really was no reason not to go. The day however started with me making the drive from Islip, NY to East Rutherford, NJ for the Stupid Mega Show (actually Super Mega Show, but if you saw how much of a fiasco this thing was, you'd call it something much worse than stupid). The show was advertising appearances by Adrienne Barbeau (a rare east coast appearance), Haley Mills, Margot Kidder, Kate Jackson (who's name was pulled from the site early in the week but not from their other advertising), Sandra Taylor (most notably from the Howard Stern Show), Kim Richards (star of many Disney movies as well as Hello Larry), Playboy playmate Devin Devasquzez, Leanna Heart, Angela Bettis, and several more not noteworthy "celebrities" (like one of "The Bachelors"). I arrived at 9:30 to find Frank already on line. At 9:45, advance ticket holders were allowed in. Then at 10:30, after being promoted by us that it was indeed 10:30, we were allowed in. Admission for the event was an astounding $16. Someone didn't tell the lady at the front table this, so we got in for $15, which is still ridiculous. We immediately headed to Adrienne Barbeau's table, expecting a crowd. We were 2nd on line. Ms. Barbeau signed autographs ($20 each) for myself, Frank, and Ron (not Sidekick Ron, but a different one). She was also kind enough to pose for pictures with us, for no charge. (Personally, I feel that if we are spending money on their merchandise or autographs, the least the celebrities can do is pose for a picture). She was a sweetheart. We then headed down to Devin Devasquez to get our Playboy 50th Anniversary Hardcover book signed. $20 it was signed. However, unlike Ms. Barbeau, Devin wanted $15 to pose for a photo with Ron. WHAT!? I don't see that happening. We then had to make our way to the other end of the hotel, to a second dealer's room, to get the remaining autographs we came for. Sandra Taylor was very nice (as she should be for the price I was about to pay) and signed a Playboy and Penthouse she was in. That cost me a ridiculous $50. She also wanted $15 for a photo either with her polaroid OR your own camera. I'll pass. Ron then got autographs from some of the other "non celebrities" there like Cleopatra of the Nile, Chanel Ryan, and Candace Kita. They ALL wanted $15 for a picture with them! Who the hell are they to get $15 for a photo when a REAL celebrity like Ms. Barbeau can do it for free?? While we were waiting for Kim Richards to arrive, we decided to head back to the other room so I could get Haley Mills. As we were heading that way, we stopped to ask Steve (one of the 2 men running the show) where Leanna Heart and Angela Bettis would be. He had no answer so he pawned us off on his partner, Ken. Ken mumbled. Ron asked, "Were they here last night". Ken said, "Uh, I don't think so. She called in sick". So both men who are RUNNING this show "THINK" they aren't here? Where are the signs that tell the PAYING customers that some of the ANNOUNCED TALENT isn't there? When I questioned Ken about that he said, "Uh, well if you came here just to see the two of them..." So I finished the sentence for him telling him, "You would tell me I couldn't get my $15 admission back, right?!" I walked away in disgust. I hopped on line and got an autograph of Haley Mills. Ms. Mills also kindly posed for a picture with me FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE!! We headed back to the other room, where Kim Richards had finally arrived, purchased an autographed photo of her (even though the man with her, and Sandra Taylor was like a hawk circling it's prey). Learned that she was going to name her son Brett but she had a daughter. Frank hopped on line to get Sandra Taylor, since for some reason he didn't get her earlier when we did. As he waited on line, I chatted with some of the people I knew from previous shows in the area and we pretty much laughed at how much money the two running this "Mega Show" had to have lost. There were MAYBE 100 paid people at the show. Considering the amount of money they had to have laid out for the building, guests, etc., they had to have lost a good amount. Most of us hope they did as the way they treat their customers is a disgrace and the way many of the pseudo celebs in attendance are desperate for a buck is pathetic. Word to the wise, if you ever her of or see a show being run by "K & S Promotions", beware. It was noon when we started to make the ride back to Long Island. We picked up Ron at 1:30 and headed for some lunch. A brief stop at my place before we got back in the car to drive some 90 miles east, to the end of Long Island. We arrived at the East Hampton High School around 5:30 and called "Double K" Kevin. Kevin is one of the original "Crew" members, who due to moving in with his girlfriend, stopped going to shows for a long time. Well, that relationship has ended and Kevin is allowed back out now. Kevin met us at the H.S. and we headed in. (Luckily, one of my students who lives in East Hampton gave me some back road shortcuts to cut some time off the trip.) While it is a beautiful area, the main road is a two lane highway. Thus you are forced to drive the speed of whatever chicken truck or tractor you get stuck behind. As we walked through the front doors, we saw Tony Burma, Damian Dragon, and Foxxy Dreams sitting at a table signing autographs. It seems everyone actually was able to keep it quiet and Foxxy seemed surprised to see us there. Just in case she has forgotten. Not only did we NOT go to what was probably the most talked about indy show in a long time BUT I drove from Islip, to East Rutherford, NJ, back to Lindenhurst, to Islip then out to East Hampton.. a nearly 300 mile trip TO SEE YOU WRESTLE!! No thanks necessary LOL! We also had the chance to speak with Dan Barry, Mike Tobin, and John Curse prior to the show. The show begin at 7:45 with Nick Vrona and Referee Chris Jackson entering the ring and welcoming the crowd to this NYWC event which is a fundraiser for the East Hampton High School Softball Team. Nick then did a great job singing the National Anthem. The coach of the softball team enters the ring to thank the sponsors and everyone attending the event. Tyler Payne then enters and starts threatening the coach. Tyler gets into the ring and is ready to pummel the coach as Wayne runs in to make the save. The two wrestlers are pulled apart by the referees but soon start to battle some more. Atlas Security enters the ring and Wayne and Payne are finally pulled apart. Great way to start of the show and make sure the crowd knows that Tyler is the heel. The opening contest saw Nick Noshus face Damian Dragon with Foxxy Dreams. Disturbed Dream's entrance music suddenly turned into the Chipmunk version of Sweet Dreams then into Bad to the Bone. So, they walked out and Foxxy yelled, "HI!" as she waved to the crowd. By the time they hit the ring, their music finally worked. A series of armdrags by Damian followed by a drop-kick knocks Noshus to the floor. Damian runs off the ropes and hits a baseball slide into a headscissors on Noshus. Noshus comes back in the ring and press slams Damian onto the top rope. Noshus back to the floor at ringside. Damian attempts the headscissors move again but gets planted, face first, on the floor. Noshus hits a beautiful Asai moonsault onto Damian at ringside. The two men make their way back into the ring. Damian with a backslide for a two count. A superkick and superplex by Noshus for a two count. Damian, on the ring apron, does a split. He then sweeps Noshus' legs from under him and hits a slingshot swanton onto Noshus for a two count. Damian off the top rope with a drop-kick Noshus hits a spinning sidewalk slam on Damian. As he goes for the pin, he puts his feet on the ropes. Foxxy breaks up the pinfall. Noshus grabs Foxxy by the hair. Foxxy drops Noshus, throat first, on the top rope. Damian kicks Noshus and hits him with the Sliced Bread # 666 for the pinfall. Great opener which took the crowd from near dead to very lively. Next up Dan Dynasty defeated Baxter Cross after a 5 count. I thought it was 5. Doug (mentioned in previous reports, better known at "DDD" Disturbed Dreams Driver LOL) says it was 7. Tara Charisma vs Foxxy Dreams was up next. You have never heard pre pubescent boys get this loud in your lives! The group of kids behind us were going berserk. Match started off fast as Tara went for a clothesline, missed and got rolled up for two. A second missed clothesline and Foxxy hit a backslide for two. The third missed clothesline was quickly followed up by an eye rake by Tara and several forearms to Foxxy's head. Tara rakes Foxxy's face across the top rope. Two huge chops by Tara. Foxxy reverses and chops Tara (to the delight of the boys behind us). The girls lock up for a test of strength but Tara knees Foxxy in the midsection. She follows up with a snap mare and two stiff kicks to Foxxy's back. Tara with a suplex for a two count. Foxxy fights back until both women hit clotheslines, knocking each other to the mat. The two women make it back to their feet. Foxxy whips Tara into the ropes, knee to her midsection and a reverse Stone Cold Stunner for the three count. Excellent outing by both women. Tara is a great heel! The kids (and many of the men) loved the match. Who can blame them. Hell, even we marked out (then again, when don't we?) Southern Vinny Stylin took on Tony Burma in a very good match. Burma took the early advantage, brawling with Stylin at ringside. Burma slingshot SVS into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Tony whipped SVS into the turnbuckles and followed with a huge boot... only to miss and get hung into the Tree of Woe. Stylin gets the upper hand until he decides to go to the top rope. Burma belly to belly suplexes SVS off the top rope. Burma with an Atomic Drop followed by a reverse Atomic Drop. Stylin grabs a chair. As he goes to hit Burma, Tony ducks. Stylin hits the rope with the chair and it bounces back, hitting him in the head. Burma with a twisting Rock Bottom Slam. (I have no other name for it so feel free to fill me in). Intermission saw many of the NYWC stars signing autographs for the fans in attendance. Nuke with Tommy King defeated M Tizzle Mike Tobin. Tobin quickly attacked with a series of punches which seemed to not phase Nuke. Nuke just tossed Tobin to the mat. Tobin with some more punches and a drop-kick, knocks Nuke to the floor. Tobin jumps off the ring apron only to be caught by Nuke and run into the ringpost, back first. Nuke dominates the next several minutes. Tobin fights back hitting a neck breaker and a flying cross body off the top rope for a two count. Tobin runs off the ropes and Nuke nails him with a huge spinebuster for the pinfall. Personally, I would prefer to see Nuke against guys his own size. This was a good way to put Nuke over as a monster, unfortunately it didn't allow Tobin to show very much of what he is able to do. Dan Barry (the NYWC Light Heavyweight Champion) was up next against Dickie Rodz (NYWC Interstate Champion). Some quick moves were exchanged before Dickie rolled to the floor. Dan Barry ran off the ropes but the referee stopped him. The ref then turned his back to Barry and began counting out Dickie. Barry off the ropes, over the ref, somersault onto Dickie. Barry throws Rodz back in the ring. As Dan tries to sunset flip Rodz, Rodz catches Barry and DDT's him straight down on his head. Dickie was able to get three 2 counts on Barry but no pinfall. Rodz whips Barry into the turnbuckles where Barry does the Ultimo Dragon headstand on the top rope into a headscissors. Hotshot by Rodz. Rodz goes for a slingshot suplex but just drops Barry onto the top rope. Barry hits a modified Shining Wizard. He goes to the top rope but Rodz hits the rope, crotching Barry. Dickie climbs to the top only to be pushed back to the canvas. Barry hit a beautiful corkscrew flying body press onto Rodz. Barry followed up with a fall away bodyslam. Rodz with a low blow. Barry with a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere followed by a missed moonsault. Rodz with a modified Northern Lights Suplex for the pin. Another very good match with my only complaint being that Dickie got a clean pinfall. Let him be a total heel and at least hit a ball shot leading into the pin. Great outing by both men. Barry did his best to get the crowd solidly against Rodz. He did a great job as they booed Rodz and continuously cheered Barry. Wayne vs Tyler Payne was next. Tyler climbed the ropes to a round of boos. Wayne did the same to cheers. They did this several times, popping the crowd each time. Wayne climbed and as the crowd cheered, Tyler attacked him from behind. (Insert Feinstein joke here...sorry). Wayne hits an atomic drop followed by a clothesline, knocking Tyler to the floor. Tyler gets back in the ring. Wayne runs off the ropes, Tyler does the same. The two men run the ropes several times until Wayne slides out to the floor. Tyler keeps running the ropes. Tyler gets mad and chases Wayne. As Wayne enters the ring, Tyler puts the boots to him. Tyler comes off the ropes but Wayne catches him. Tyler reverses it into a small package for the pin. Post match: Wayne DDT's Tyler. We know have several raffle drawings. One of the coaches won the 50/50 but gave the money back for the softball team. One of the softball team members won a sander. Now she can build that birdhouse she always wanted. The main event featured Affirmative Action (Lamar Braxton Porter and Joey Braggiole), with Prince Charles vs Los Luchas Hermanos (Ken Scampi and Spyder). LLH rush the ring and take immediate control. Scampi hit a suicide dive (and nearly did a suicide die) on Porter. Spyder off the ring apron onto Porter. Braggiole runs off the ropes, stops, climbs out of the ring, then does a diving clothesline off the ring apron. Back in the ring, Porter is draped over the second rope. Scampi holds his feet and Spyder hits the 631 (local area code). Scampi grabs Braggioles hand and prepares to walk the top rope. Prince Charles distracts the ref and Porter comes in. AA double team Scampi. Hot tag by Scampi. Spyder with a tornado DDT on Braxton. Spyder with a baseball slide to Braggioles nuts. Braggiole is laid out in the middle of the ring. Scampi hits a springboard splash. Spyder follows with a springboard 450 splash for the pin. The show was a very fun show. The crowd seemed to love it. The wrestlers seemed to enjoy working for and signing autographs for the many kids in attendance. Personally, I think the NYWC roster could be put up against any roster in any promotion and would shine. They have a great group of guys who will get in the ring and put on a hell of a show. I have yet to be disappointed by an NYWC event. Double K, who made his return tonight, is already scheduled to join us in Deer Park next week for the NYWC show. If you have not yet attended an NYWC event, you should consider next week's as the lineup is strong and it should be a great show. |
