Due to the fact that I actually have some small life outside of this website, I will have the DETAILED Report on the JAP show posted Monday afternoon. Until then, here are the quickie results... Jersey All Pro Wrestling ran their Sixth Anniversary Show on November 8th, at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ before a crowd of approximately 500 fans. During the day there was a wrestling convention which featured stars such as John Cena (who was out rapped by a younger and much more talented up and coming star), Matt Hardy, Charlie Hass, Jerry Lawler, Jonathan Coachman, Al Snow, April Hunter, and Slyk Wagner Brown. Other lumanaires in attendance included Rob Feinstein and RF Video, Michael K Johnson, Buck Woodward, Eric Simms (who is not really a lumanary but did go out of his way to leak the surprises to me and completely ruin any chance of me actually enjoying the surprises scheduled for later in the evening), CSWF Booker Dave Levy, George Mayfield, Big Andy Vargas, Noel, Ricky O, Robert "Stiff Shots" Payes, and the returning "Sidekick" Ron. After the convention and an enjoyable, yet primarily uneventful dinner, at Bazookas we headed back to the convention center for the show. The card on a flier that was given to everyone at the convention stated there would be a dark match at 7:30. At 8pm the show began. I guess no dark match after all. The show opened with a 10 bell salute to the late Road Warrior Hawk and Crash Holly. In the opening match, Corvis Fear faced Explosive Eddie Thomas and Rush in a three way match. At one point, while Corvis Fear had both men in headlocks, AC DC's Big Balls played on the sound system and an almost unrecognizable Balls Mahoney hit the ring. Mahoney attacked all three men with chair shots and nutcrackers. If it wasn't for the music I doubt anyone would have recognized Balls as he dropped at LEAST 75 pounds and looks to be in tremendous shape. The next bout was for the JAPW Light Heavyweight Championshipe. Azrael and The Insane Dragon battled back and forth with a plethora of amazing high flying moves including Dragon hitting a hurracanrana off the guard rail to Azrael. Azrael was able to fight back and hit a springboard blockbuster for the three count. Very good match. The Christopher St. Connection (with valet Jailbait) defeated Dunn and Marcos in a primarily comedy match. Christopher Street Connection are hilarious and never seem to get old as the crowd still pops for them. CSC with a Road Warrioresque type finish, replacing the clothesline with a pie in the sky for the pinfall. Making her JAP debut, Sumie Sakai pinned Ariel in an amazing match that totally captivated the crowd. Sumie hit a springboard asai moonsault on Ariel then immediately put her into a camel clutch. Sumie pulled back on Ariel's hair. As the ref counted to break the hair pulling, Sumie would scream along with him, "1, 2, 3" right as she'd hit 4, she would let go of the hair with one hand and grab on with the other. She continued to do this to the pop of the crowd. She made sure to turn Ariel so that all four sides of the ring were able to see her doing the "1, 2, 3" camel clutch. Sumie picked up Ariel and placed her on the top rope. Ariel was able to counter with a tornado DDT. Sumie slingshots Ariel into the ropes and follows up with her version of the 619 (which, by the way, was done long before Rey ever did it.) Sumie to the top rope with two missle dropkicks and a moonsault for the pinfall. After the match, Jonny D enters the ring with Church. Church full nelson slams Ariel. JAPW Television Champion Skinhead Ivan (with Oi Boy) defeated Jay Lethal in a strap match. Lethal immediately grabbed a strap and began to whip Ivan and Oi. Both men spilled to the floor. Lethal hit a suicide dive onto Oi. Ivan was busted open and bled like mad. Back in the ring, the two men, each with straps, somehow got referee Hansen caught up and somewhat choked him out. The ref hit the mat. Ivan hit a top rope elbow drop but the ref was down. Lethal with a springboard DDT for 2. Skinhead Ivan was able to counter and roll up Lethal to retain the title. In the 6th Annual Best of the Lightheavyweights Contest. Derek Wylde defeated Ruckus, Roderick Strong and Grim Reefer. Ruckus and Reefer started off the match. Even though it was announced that no eliminations can occur until all 4 men are in the ring, the ref kept making 2 counts. Strong entered next, followed by Wylde. Great match by all four men. Ruckus hit a shooting star off the ring apron to Reefer on the floor. Ruckus hit a split leg moonsault on Reefer for the pinfall. Roderick picks up Ruckus as if he was going for the Razor's Edge but flips him into a Diamond Cutter for the pin. The crowd booed LOUDLY as Ruckus was hands down the crowd favorite. Wylde then pinned Strong to win the match. The Jersey All Pro Tag Team Titles were on the line next as JAPW Tag Team champions Slyk Wagner Brown and April Hunter defeated The Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz and The H Effect (Dixie and Deranged) in what most of the people I spoke to thought was match of the night. The match started with Slyk cleaning house. Slyk dominated the opening minutes of the match. April tagged in only to be hit in the ass by KC Blade. April punched and chopped him silly. April followed up with a clothesline and some forearms. Blade whipped April into the ropes but April countered with what looked like a flying headscissors but she also hooked the arm into a submission move. EC Negro ran in to break it up. Slyk was tagged in again and DRS double teamed him as April tried pointing out to the ref what they were doing. H Effect came in but Slyk double suplexed them both. April clotheslined all 4 opponents and followed up with 4 hiptosses. Dixie was then clotheslined over the top rope to the floor, and Deranged was kicked out of the ring. DRS whipped April into the ropes but April was able to double stunner them. Deranged goes for a flying cross body but April moved and he hit Dixie. DRS then hit a spiked brainbuster on April but Deranged made the save. Slyk threw Dixie out of the ring, onto the DRS. Slyk full nelson slammed Deranged onto his knee. Slyk climbed to the top rope but Deranged pushed the ref into the ropes causing Slyk to fall. Deranged went for a hurracanrana but Slyk grabbed him and HOLY SLYK! 1, 2, 3. April Hunter and Slyk Wagner Brown are still your JAP Tag Team Champions. H Effect are an awesome team and proved that they can get in the ring with nearly anyone and stand toe to toe with them. Match of the night, easily. JAP Promoter, Fat Frank announced that JAP returns to Rahway, NJ on December 13th for Season's Beatings 2003. There are free bus trips from NY and NJ. Debuting in JAP that night will be Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels as he faces AJ Styles. Ariel has an open challenge for Jonny D, Church, and the Skyscrapers. April Hunter will defend the tag titles against the Christopher Street Connection. The next match was scheduled to be Danny Maff and Homicide against Raven and Sabu. Sabu, however, decided to take a booking elsewhere so Raven told both men he could take them on himself. Raven held his own for a while until Maff and Homicide took control. A masked man ran out to help Raven. He unmasked to be Steve Corino. Corino took the upper hand piledriving Homicide and superkicking Maff. The referee was soon knocked down and Pierroth (or a guy wearing his mask) ran out and DDT'd Raven. The ref woke up in time to see Maff pinning Raven. Pierroth re enters the ring and unmasks to be Shane Douglas. As Shane puts the boots to Raven he tells him that he told him that he would always be where Raven least expected. Raven challenged Douglas to a match next month. The JAPW Championship was on the line next with Mick Foley as Special Guest Referee. Al Snow with Jonathan Coachman was defending the title against Jerry The King Lawler. Pre match mic work by Foley had him saying how great it was to be "back here in New Jersey". He told Lawler that even though they had a best selling children's book together he was going to call the match right down the middle. He then told Coach "if you interfere, I'll knock your dick in the dirt." (which was a reference which anyone who knew anything would have understood). To be quite honest, the match seemed never ending to me. Coach kept getting on the mic to call the match. Foley told him he could stay at ringside with the condition that he couldn't get on the mic. He stayed at ringside. He got back on the mic. He continued. Granted, Coach is a heel and it is his job to "piss off" the fans. That's fine. It added nothing to the match. In fact, it took away from it as it was more distracting than anything else. Lawler with 34 punches a kick and a stunner. Snow then went into a sequence where he did a pedigree (for a 2 count), a people's elbow (for a 2 count), etc. I'm sure HHH, Rock, Vince and the rest of the WWE would be thrilled to see Snow using the finishers of their bigger names and NOT finishing the match with them. Ugh. Snow argued with Foley over a count but Lawler rolled him up from behind for the three count. Lawler is your new JAP Heavyweight Champion. Maff comes out and challenges Lawler right her and now. Foley pulls out Mr Socko and mandible claws Maff with it. Next month, Lawler v Maff. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening. By the time the last match ended 2/3rds of the crowd had left. (I don't blame them). Fat Frank and his JAPW Staff should be commended on putting on a great day of entertainment. After the show, I had the pleasure of watching April Hunter try to explain to Sumie Sakai exactly who (what) I was. It was a thrill to see Sumie in action live. She and Ariel definately impressed the crowd. April and Slyk as tag champs is a brilliant move as not only can they wrestle a hell of a match (as they proved again tonight, even if April is way to hard on herself) but how may feds can say they have intergender tag champs? Ruckus needs to be booked more often! He is another talent that hasn't been used nearly enough by promotions in this area. The ride home sucked as 3 lanes on the Cross Bronx were merged into 2 which added at least an extra hour onto our travel time. |
