JCW in Paramus on June 29
By Gilded Crotch

JCW returned to the Elks Lodge in Paramus, NJ on Sunday, June 29th.

For the second time in a row, JCW started on time!! (in fact, my watch had 3:58). The show started with a moment of silence for Dan Maff's father who passed away last week.

Luminaries in attendance... The Lethal Family, The Kruel Family, Lawrence Kleber, Avery Paul Schreiber, Noel, Nick Niosi, and pizza!

The opening contest saw Damian Dragon destroy Dickie Rodz. Damian is completely distraught, having lost his fiancé' Foxxy to Showtime Shawn Sheridan at the last JCW show. Damian snapped and beat down Dickie. Several times, while going for the pin, Damian intentionally pulled Rodz up after the two count. After dominating most of the match, Damian hit the Sliced Bread #2 followed by the Dreamcatcher submission, causing Dickie to tap out (on Damian's ass). After the match, Damian misted the referee, snap mared him, kicked him in the back and put him in a camel clutch, refusing to let go. He finally released the ref and made his way to the back, as two other referees came to the ring to help their fallen companion. Great way to open the show. Damian did a phenomenal job as the distraught psychopath (is it really that far of a stretch from his real personality though?)

Next up is the JCW Lightheavyweight Championship match, but first we are introduced to Ace Darling. Ace introduces himself, "the next JCW Heavyweight Champion". Ace is here to introduce us to "two great things. Number 1, is my new championship tights! and number 2, the Disciples of Darling. These two men have all the physical tools to be the champions in JCW. What they're lacking is a mentor." Since Ace can't be in everyplace at once, he brings out Sure Thing John Shane. Shane enters the ring and has an idea, "These two guys will be JCW Tag Team Champions. And they will stand next to the JCW Champion Ace Darling because Don Montoya's is going to get his fat ass kicked tonight.. MARK MY WORD!". Shane continues by challenging any tag team out there that wants to come out and face the "DOD". Shane then snaps at a poor fan in the crowd exclaiming, "I have been waiting 6 years to get your fat, chubby behind kicked!".

Chris Idol and Erik Cooper accept the challenge. John Shane took too much pleasure in calling Idol "Aladdin". The Disciples of Darling win after double torture racks into slams. Good way to get the new tag team into a great position by not only aligning them with Ace, but giving them the best mouthpiece in the business, John Shane.

The JCW Lightheavyweight title is on the line as Johnny Ova defends against Azrael. Great match by both men. Words can't do this match justice. Azrael went for a huracanrana after running up the ropes but Ova reversed it into a sit out powerbomb. Both men hit all their signature moves but Ova was able to hit the OvaDrive for the pinfall.

Rob Eckos w/ Mike Winner, comes to the ring. He tells us how he was robbed of his Cruiserweight title when Johnny Ova beat him BUT that's a good thing because tonight he moves on to bigger and better things. Tonight, when he leaves Paramus, he is going to be the Shooter Mike Eckos. Mike Kruel comes to the ring. As Winner distracts him, he is attacked from behind by Eckos. Kruel has improved so much over the past year. The psychology in his matches is excellent. Kruel continually tried working on the arm of Eckos. Kruel gets the armbar on Kruel but Winner distracts the ref so he doesn't see Eckos tapping out. Kruel then confronts Winner and puts the submission armbar on him. Eckos with a superkick for a two count. Eckos waits for Kruel to get up so he can give him a second superkick. Kruel ducks, goes for a headscissors into the armbar submission. Great wrestling match!

Team Ethic then faced Showtime Shawn Sheridan and Shawndito with Amber and Foxxy Dreams (looking a lot like Cyndi Lauper). The match started with Team Ethic playing monkey in the middle with "The Way". The threw "The Way" to Foxxy who did a running clothesline on Amber and ran out the back. Sheridan went and got her. Sheridan then decided to give the "Way" to someone who would be more responsible. I then had the privilege, which lasted 5 seconds before it was given to Brambilla because "His column is better". That didn't last long as Sheridan conceded, "My journal's way better than both of your columns" so he kept it himself. Great match both inside and outside the ring. Foxxy did NOT want to be there (why should she, she's with Damian and she's only here due to match stipulations from last month), she was playing jump rope with shoestrings, taking breaks by sitting on fans' laps, anything to occupy her time. While Sheridan distracted the ref, Amber choked Greco, only to be stopped by Foxxy. Shawncito went for a chokeslam on Greco, Dixie hits the claw on Shawncito. Greco then claws Shawn, knocking him out of the ring. Greco then did the giant swing on Shawncito, into the Dixie dropkick. The both climbed the ropes and hit a double fist drop for the win. Meanwhile, outside the ring, Foxxy had jumped onto Sheridan's back and was choking him out. Sheridan fell to the floor and began tapping as Amber tried pulling Foxxy off. Sheridan seemed to be out cold. Team Ethic headed toward the back (as Greco gave a little kick to Sheridan's ass). Sheridan recovered and left with Shawncito and Amber, who pulled Foxxy to the back by the hair. GREAT CONTINUATION OF THE STORYLINE!!

Livewyre with John The Sure Thing Shane defeated Striker in another good match. Good chain wrestling by both men. Livewyre hit a nice T Bone Tazplex followed by a crippler cross face. Striker was able to counter with the Lung Blower. Striker applies a submission move but Shane distracts the ref. Livewyre then knocked Striker into John, knocking him to the floor. Striker with a Majistral Cradle for two. Quick Small Package by Livewyre for two. Sunset Flip attempt by Striker but Livewyre sits down and hooks the legs for the 3 count. Ricky O then gets on the mic and asks Livewyre if he's up for one last challenge. "Cubby from the Mickey Mouse Club", as John Shane put it, came out and asked Livewyre if he was ready. The kid then came back with the entire locker room and a present for Livewyre. For those of you who do not know, next week Livewyre heads down to OVW, the WWE "farm league". Livewyre then got on the mic to tell about the fun he has had and how it's time for him to head down south. "No matter where I go, whether it be JCW or OVW, I have only one thing to say... IT'S GUTCHECK TIME!!" Livewyre then destroys the box to reveal a nice piece of luggage to use for his travels. Great sendoff for a great guy who deserves this opportunity.

After intermission it was time for the JCW Heavyweight Championship Match. Ace Darling with The "DOD" and John Shane. What a great match! After 6 years of us chanting "Suicide Dive" at Don Montoya, HE ACTUALLY DID ONE!! HOLY SHIT!! This was quite possibly the best match I have ever seen Don Montoya have. Great action back and forth. John Shane at one point told someone in the crowd "You're as confused as an Amish guy in Circut City!" Back in the ring, enziguri by Ace. Don Montoya fights back and hits the Corkscrew Leg Drop. The "DOD" then trip up Montoya so Ace can hit a superkick for a two count. Montoya goes for his Miracle Extacy finisher but Ace reverses it into a hurracanrana. Ace to the top and hits the Ace in The Hole for a two count. Ace throws a tantrum. He goes for a second one but Montoya hits the Miracle Extacy sitout chokeslam. Two count. Montoya goes for a superplex but Ace pushes him off, into the ref. The "DOD" run in and attack Montoya. Don fights them off with a double clothesline but as he turns around, Ace hits the Ace in the Hole again. The ref revives in time to see Ace pinning Don and makes the three count. Your new JCW Heavyweight Champion, Ace Darling!! WOW!

Dan Barry enters the ring. He is scheduled to have a tag team title match, with his partner Ru Star, against Los Boricuas. Dan gets on the mic, "I have an unfortunate announcement. I know it's the question on all of your minds right now. You see Dan Barry and you think Mid Card Express and you are asking yourself, is Dan Barry single? and yes, I am. AND RU Star is not here. Actually, he works at a fat camp trying to help a lot of people who look a lot like you, become skinny like me. So I decided to get a partner. I looked at Jim from Wrestling Clothesline and I realized he's not 'in the business' and he's 'just a fan'. So I decided I am going to take Los Boricuas on by myself". Lord Clarence MacDougal enters the ring with Grim Reefer. The chair broke as MacDougal attempted to use it to get into the ring. MacDougal introduces Grim Reefer. Dan Barry accepts him to be his partner.

Los Boricuas enter the ring and attack from behind. Los Boricuas immediately counter with a pair of bulldogs and clothesline's over the top rope to the floor. Back in the ring, Dan Barry with a springboard moonsault onto Tony. Reefer and Barry get some great offensive moves in.Los Boricuas fought back, laid both men out in the center of the ring, and hit splashes off the top rope for the pinfall. Los Boricuas are over with the fans BIG TIME. Very good match, especially by a team who hasn't teamed up in JCW before.

Your main event is for the JCW TV Title. Champion Dirty Money w/ Devin Sturgis is defending his title against Jay Lethal (the original opponent, John Walters, was injured during the NEI Invitational on Saturday). This was one of the best matches I have ever seen Money have. Lots of great stuff here. Suicide dive by Lethal. Every pin attempt by Lethal was broken up by interference or refereee distraction by Sturgis. Lethal went to the back and brought out Los Boricuas to watch his back. Dirty Money puts the boots to Lethal and hits him with a running powerslam. Lethal fights back hitting his top rope headbutt. BIG spinebuster by Dirty Money. The ref wouldn't count 3 because he saw Sturgis' walking stick in the ring and assumed Money used it. Money pushes the ref. The referee pushes money into a Lethal roll up for the pinfall. Great way to send the crown home happy by having one of the biggest faces in your company win the TV Title.

Overall, another great JCW show and a decent size crowd! The crowd was pretty hot. The in ring action was excellent and the storylines (like Sheridan, Damian, Foxxy and the potential they now have with Shane/Ace/DOD) are awesome.

I think we are now going to use Lance Storm's commentary on what an ideal house show should contain, as criteria for indy shows as well. (Lance Storm's recent commentary can be seen on his website (stormwrestling.com)

A house-show card should be between 2-hours 15 to 2-hours 45 minutes. Less than a 2 hour show and fans aren’t getting their moneys worth. When the show approaches 3 hours you start burning out your crowd...

The point of a show is to entertain the audience in such a way that they enjoy themselves and want to buy another ticket to come back...

At the end of the show you want the crowd, happy, excited, and wanting to see a little bit more. You don’t want them exhausted and glad the show is over because they are tired. More over you want them still lively come the main event. The show is meant to build around the main event and it’s that match that, theoretically, draws the crowd. If the crowd is burned out by that time, the main will seem flat and leave a bad taste in the people’s mouths.

The JCW show lasted 2:30. Not too long, not too short. The audience enjoyed every match and was entertained to the point where they left happy and should want to buy a ticket to the next show. JCW returns to Paramus on Sunday, July 20th. Check out jcwwrestling.com for more information!
