New Horizons Pro-Wrestling presented "Welcome to New Jersey"
on Saturday December 2 at the Boonton Elks Lodge in Boonton, NJ. Pre show festivities began at the Boonton Ave Grille (B.A.G) with Joe, Frank, Joey Image, and myself enjoying some drinks at the bar. We were soon joined by Robert Payes and later by Jim Brambilla, Ed Darcey, Dan from Parsippany, and Marty Kuriloff. We had way too much to drink and eat but it had to be done knowing what may be in store for us later in the evening. The crowd of about 75 - 100 (which does not include the plethora of indy wrestlers and other persona that nearly outnumbered the paying fans) was one of the biggest I have ever seen at this locations which seemingly can't draw flies to shit. Lumiaries in attendance included Destiny, Countess Noir, Joe Velez Jr., Ed Darcey, Robert Payes, Dan from Parsippany, Marty Kuriloff, Frank, Shawn O'Domski, Jay from Long Island, Eric Shafer, Donnie Bon Jovi, Jay the IG promoter and NHPW camera crew, some other guy named Joe, Jay Lethal, Jana, and Shannon. The opening contest saw Jake Bishop defeat Crowbar. That's right, you heard me, Crowbar, the man who has worked in ECW, WCW, and WWE at some point in his career jobbed to a guy who thinks he is the second coming of the JYD. JYD was a fine character in his day but does anyone today need to see someone try and imitate him (and imitate him poorly nonetheless?). Dan from Parsippany put it best when he said, "Crowbar must have someplace to go." JYB pinned Crowbar after the Thump. Post match, Havok attacked for no apparant reason. Drew Blood, Grim Reefer, and Devon Moore defeated AMIL in a high flying, fast paced match. Blood, Reefer, and Moore were accompanied to the ring by Strangler Nick Maddox who is the least animated manager in recent history and seemingly does nothing whenever he is at ringside. I had to ask Moore (during the match) how the PWU Champion is in the second match of a card in Boonton. He could only laugh and shrug his shoulders. Reefer ended up scoring the pinfall after the match went a little longer than it should have. Ahmed Ghiad (Eddie Guapo) defeated Eddie Kingston by countout. Joey Image (who got a huge pop and had a groundswell of support throughout the match) teamed with Justin Corino against Jasin Karloff and Dr. Spider. Corino ended up tapping out to a Camel Clutch by Dr Spider. Image tried hard, as did Corino. Karloff and Spider, I'm still trying to figure out. In the first of two IndyGurlz matches on the card (and one of the two reasons most of us came to this show), Ariel small packaged "The Definition of Technician" Cindy Rogers, ending Cindy's undefeated streak in IG. Your referee for the bout was Alere Lil Feather. A very good match that had both girls show their personalities as well as their wrestling ability. The next match was a three way match that saw Erik Andretti w/ Nikki Roxx defeat Mana and Blue Meanie. At the beginning of the match, Mercedes Martinez came out, followed by Melissa Stripes. They battled Nikki to the back. The match began but soon Havok ran out and interferred (yet again). Nikki returned to the ring, grabbed a chair, and nailed Mana. Havok gored him and Eric made the pin. Why Meanie was there we may never know. Judas Young and Javi Air were defeated by Poppadon in a three way match. Two three ways in a row, plus a three way scheduled for the main event? Why? Sorry, just me looking for logic in wrestling. My bad. Anywho, Judas Young looked better than ever and was a welcomed sight to see, as it has been too long since the "crew" last saw him in action. Would have been nice to see him have the chance to show what he can do in a singles match instead of a three way. Intermission was next. Not too many of the wrestlers came out other than Ariel and Cindy Rogers. Let's be honest, who else do the fans really want to see other than them anyway? LOL The Residents of Shady Acres (John Cannon & Cremator) defeated The Extasy Xpress (Gavin Quest & Mike Donavan). You heard it right, Mike Donavan. As Brams said it best, "You could have called yourself MD2006. You could have been MDogg20. But no, you're MIKE DONAVAN". That pretty much sums up this match. Plazma defeated Ruckus in an NYWC HiFi Title Match. Why another feds title is being defended on an NHPW show is beyond me. Should't you be trying to put your own fed and your own talent over? Evidentally not since Plazma retained the title after the worst finish in recent memory. Ruckus came off the top rope with a moonsault into a leg drop. He connected and hit Plazma who seemingly is invincible and just rolled Ruckus over into a pin. WTF? Why to make the NHPW look important. BLK OUT (Sabian and Joker) were scheduled to face The Dead Presidents (Boogalou Washington & Lo Ryda Lincoln). Boogalou got on the mic and said his brother was not able to be there but he had another partner. Enter Homicide. The match itself, when it stayed in the ring, was excellent. However, after the victory by Homicide and Boogalou, the post match melee was ridiculous and drawn out. The main event of the evening was a 3-Way Women's TLC Match for the NHPW Women's Championship. Melissa Stripes faced off against Nikki Roxx and Mercedes Martinez in the Match of the Year. The women started off wrestling but, it didn't take long before Nikki brought in a chair and nailed Stripes with it. Nikki and Mercedes then began to battle until Melissa brought in a ladder and knocked them both to the floor with it. Melissa set up the ladder (a little too far away from the ropes) and climbed to the top. She dove out and took a header to the floor. Luckilly, Nikki and Mercedes were able to protect her somewhat but the thud was pretty loud. As Melissa recovered, Nikki and Mercedes battled throughout the building, not holding back at all. The made their way back into the ringside area. Mercedes set up a table and laid out Nikki on it. Mercedes got back in the ring as the recovered Melissa climbed to the top rope. Mercedes hit Melissa with the chair and she fell towards the table. Nikki moved and Melissa crashed through the table. More chair shots by both women. Mercedes set up a table, on two chairs, in the middle of the ring and superplexed Nikki through them. Unfortunately, Mercedes went through the table more than Nikki and Nikki was able to cover her for the three count to become the NHPW Women's Champion. Overall, the crowd seemed to enjoy the show, and that's what matters.
The two ladies matches, in my opinion, stole the show. The six man tag,
although going a little long, was also very good as was the Homicide bout
(when they actually spent time wrestling.) Lots of questions remain like
why was Meanie even in the three way and why was Crowbar wasted in the
opener? Why was another feds belt defended on your debut show in the area?
Why were there so many unexplained run ins? I guess I'm just a stickler
for actual logic and reasoning when it comes to booking and storylines. |
