As I sit and watch a nearly unwatchable FOUR HOURS of TNA prior to ringing in the New Year, I can't help but asking myself so many questions. I am not going to focus on any of the ridiculousness that TNA has done in the past or any of their prior stupidity. I am strictly focusing on this ONE "New Year's Knockout Eve" show, that was pre-taped over a week ago, by a company who plans on going live against the WWE on Monday night. The show opens with Tenay and Taz discussing the brackets for this evening's show. They then discuss the top three matches of 2009, which will be shown tonight for the "first time ever on free tv". Backstage, Tara is interviewed. Not only does she stumble over many of her words but she announces that she has a special surprise for us all tonight as she is going to announce the top three matches of 2009. Um, weren't they just announced by Taz and Tenay? Why can't an interview that is pre-taped be edited or redone or anything to make Tara look, at the least, literate? We head to a match with Traci Brooks. Does TNA really have such little faith in Traci's wrestling ability that they have to push this birth defect gimmick? Plus, if her arm was damaged at birth, wouldn't that somehow make it less prone to injury since there may be some nerve damage and she wouldn't feel as much pain? After losing to Hamada, in another brilliant backstage interview, Madison Rayne had this brilliant statement: "I can beat Hamada or whatever her name is!" Um, her name is Hamada. You just said it. There really is no need to say "whatever her name is" when you clearly know what it is. Side note. If Roxxi beat ODB a few weeks back, while ODB was champ, shouldn't that give her a title shot by default? Even if the championship changed hands? Just a thought. (and some logic). The British Invasion came out for commentary during the April Hunter/Lorelai v Sarita/Taylor match. WHY? They served no purpose at all. Then again, it is TNA. Roxxi broke her ankle in 2 places at the end of her match with Hamada. Had they just given her the damn title shot she earned by beating ODB, like I stated earlier, this injury could have been avoided. We go to the back where Tara makes what I find to be the most intriguing statement of the evening. She is introducing the Sting v AJ Styles match and says they are "The 2 Greatest Wrestlers of All Time!". Really? There is no one in the history of wrestling better than Sting? Nothing against Sting, or AJ for that matter. However, they are the "2 Greatest Wrestlers of All Time."? Come on now! After the Sting v AJ match, AJ tried to call Sting to the ring. AJ went through several mics before obtaining one that worked. Does TNA have an editor? Why would you SHOW this on TV when it could have easily been cut out? What is the point of showing how unprofessional your product really is, especially when you have had so much time to edit this 30 seconds of stupidity? The finals of the tournament saw ODB defeat Hamada. ODB now earns the title shot, against Tara, on Monday night's show. Why does TNA insist on these two women constantly having one on one matchups, when they have so much other female talent to choose from? Spread the wealth? Nothing against ODB but she's held the belt for a decent period of time. Tara already held the belt and it was taken off her waist almost immediately. Was there a reason for that? Was it just to set up this rematch? Was it because she wasn't deserving of it? What makes her, and her spider, worthy now? It really is mind boggling. If a show that was taped over a week in advance is riddled with as much stupidity and guffaws as this one was, I can not wait to see the car crash that is going to take place on January 4th when TNA goes live, for three hours, against Raw. Finally, for those who don't see the writing on the wall (or the hands in the pockets), I have a feeling that this time next year we'll be watching Vince's newest acquisition, WWETNA. I'm sure the first thing Vince will do is fire the production crew. |
