Women's Extreme Wrestling "Twisted Steel & Sex Appeal" Recap
By Brett Schwan

Women's Extreme Wrestling held their latest pay-per-view taping, "Twisted Steel & Sex Appeal", at the New Alhambra Arena in Philadelphia on Friday night, August 18th.

We sat in traffic on the NJ Turnpike for way too long. Checked into the Quality Inn and headed to the Arena. This was Ron and my first double header since the Hardcore Homecoming and IWA Mid South back to back in June 2005.

Pre show festivites - dinner at Tony Luke's where we saw Paul and Joe and I got to meet WrestlingClothesline.com contributor, Shawn O'Domski (see Shawn's recap of the show beneath this one!)

The show which was announced at having an 8:00 bell time did not even open it's doors until 8:20. This is no surprise to anyone that has ever attended a WEW event in the past as they are infamous for starting late and ending their shows even later.

Prior to the matches, many (but not enough) of the women were out signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Lucy Furr (aka Daffney) looked better than ever and actually remembered me even after not having seen me in over 2 years. Talia and April had quite a line waiting to get their autographs so we hopped on real quick to say hello before getting out of the way so they could try and sell some gimmicks (knowing I usually talk to April later or after the shows, I always try and stay out of the way and let her make a buck.)

I also met Ronnie Lang (of Atlas Security) who is running his first show, at the Arena on September 13th.

The show begins at 9:00 (with $2 beers!!)

Your Ring Announcer for the evening: Former WCW Announcer, Scott Hudson.
Senior Referee, and the referee that nearly killed Angel Orsini thanks to her complete stupidity, Isis.
Ringside Official: Jessica Blade.
Ringside Nurse: Booty Bangin Nurse T.

Luminaries in attendance: Mike the Ref, Eric Shafer, Joe, Missy Samson, Karen Belcher, Dani, Stephen DeAngelis, Paul, Marty, Fat Stanley, Hayabusa (sans the mask), Sure Shot Scott, Ed Darcey, Robert Payes, and Shawn O'Domski.

In the opening match, Lacey defeated Mickey Knuckles with a sick looking Fisherman DDT. The match started slow but picked up steam fairly quickly. As the match began, Sidekick Ron sat between myself and Karen Belcher and the chair just collapsed beneath him. I found it hilarious. During the match, Mickie knocked out the referee so Isis came in to make the count.

Mercedes Martinez defeated the debuting Cindy Rogers in a Lumberjanes match. Two of the best women wrestlers in the business in an excellent match. Not much interference by the lumberjanes (many of whom just looked confused). At least Lucy Furr (Daffney) put on a good show at ringside.

WEW Tag Team Champions T & A (Talia Madison and April Hunter) defeated Team Blondage (Amber O'Neill and Lollipop). Prior to the match, Lollipop announced that this would be her last match. Nothing like giving away the finish since we all presume they aren't going to put the straps on someone who is leaving the business. The finish saw O'Neill walk away from her corner, leaving Lollipop to fend for herself and eventually tap out. After the match, O'Neill told Lollipop, Hunter, and Madison they could go screw themselves.

Next up was a "Deal or No Deal" Match. In a nutshell, boxes were placed in each corner of the ring, each with a weapon of some sort inside it. Sumie Sakai (with So Cal Val) defeated Simply Luscious (with Lucy Furr). Some of the deadly weapons that were used during the match included a pillow, a small American flag on a stick, Silly String, and a "Quacker" (a stupid plastic duck call type thing). More of a comedy match with two great workers. What a way to waste good talent.

The Full Breasted Italian, Angel Orsini defeated Nav A Ho in a Sicilian Stretcher Match with an Orsini Bomb (Baldo Bomb). Great to see Angel back in action after breaking both of her heels in her last match.

"Pryme Time" Amy Lee (who informed me earlier she was so excited she was "Oozin from the coozin" destroyed Tai "Killer" Weed in a Tar and Feathers match (in which Chocolate Syrup was used in place of the tar.) Amy Lee got on the mic prior to the match and ripped nearly anyone she could. Lee destroyed Weed using everything from trash cans, rolling pins, cheese graters, chains, frying pans, and Twister. Note to Tai: Don't miss or screw up easy spots or you will be hurting in the morning. Amy Lee dropped the elbow and won the match. She then covered Tai with chocolate syrup and feathers. After the match, Tai gave the most mind boggling speech that, luckily, many of us could barely hear.

After the match Amy Lee clotheslined and fired So Cal Val. Who knew she had the authority in WEW to hire and fire people. Knowing that, I will have to give her my suggestion on who to get rid of and who to bring in for future shows! LOL

Short break to clean up the ring. Some of the women came back out to sign autographs. No April Hunter (but Talia came out). That's ok. I'm sure I will see her after the show.

Nurse T beat Jessica Blade and Lauren Looselips in a three-way Chocolate Syrup match. Luckily, I missed it as I was talking to Lucy Furr and Cindy Rogers.

April Hunter (with Talia) defeated Annie Social in a short match. This must explain why April didn't come out, she was preparing for her match.

Lacey with Lucy Furr defeated Nav A Ho.

Talia Madison (with April Hunter) defeated Sumie Sakai in a Goldfish Tank of Death match. No exact rules were given but we all figured out that the winner had to dunk their opponents head into the Goldfish Tank (complete with 4 dead goldfish) that was near the entranceway. Sumie came to the ring adorned in pink pajamas, a snorkel, goggles, water wings and an inflatable surf board. She also seemed to have a little too much fun squirting everyone with a water gun. The majority of the match was Talia and April double teaming Sumie with Talia dunking Sumie's head after using that damn quacker duck call. I guess the sound of it was so horrifying that Sumie couldn't help but dunk her head underwater to avoid having to hear it?

Mickie Knuckles defeated Cindy Rogers after a superplex. Short match but a very good one nonetheless.

Another break to set up the cage. Again, several women came out but not April Hunter. Again, no worry as I am sure I will see her after the show. LOL (Hell, I always do. I have to give her the thumbs up or down, dish some dirt, then tell her I'll see her at the next show in 8 months or so).

The "Full Breasted Italian" Angel Orsini beat Mercedes Martinez, Simply Luscious, and "Pryme Tyme" Amy Lee in a Steel Cage match to win the WEW Heavyweight title. It took longer to put up the cage that to have the actual match. Once again, a complete misuse of some actual wrestling talent. Angel was busted open (I didn't see how). Mercedes did hit a High Cross Body of the top of the cage onto Amy Lee. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Angel simply walked out the cage door and won the match. After the match, Amy Lee went nuts and started throwing anything she could find (which included her allegedly damaging thousands of dollars in equipment that was strategically placed inside a garbage can near the entranceway to the ring.)

After the show, which amazingly ended at midnight (when most of these run till at least 2am), I stuck around to give Amy Lee and Cindy Rogers their birthday gifts (I came THIS close to getting Amy to cry).

Cindy had to get home as she had to leave by 9am to head to a show in NC on Saturday. Ron, Joe, Karen, myself and a few others stuck around to say good-bye to April Hunter. She came out for a second but then headed to the back with one of her friends. A few minutes later he came out and left. April then must have left as we didn't see her again. (You know how it is once you get engaged to a Canadian, I guess old friends and fans are no longer that important! LOL). As usual, we spent too much time bullshitting with Lucy Furr, Amy Lee, Cindy Rogers, and a few others that weren't in any hurry to leave (even though some had shows the next day in other states) and got locked in the building (as the closed up the front and side doors!).

I wanted to get a picture with Lacey so Ed Darcey was kind enough to introduce me to her. She was about as thrilled to meet me as a kid who just watched his dog get runover by a car.

For what it was (and it was free) it was an enjoyable show. I can't understand why WEW decides to book so many great wrestlers then wastes them in non wrestling matches. Oh wait, it's because it isn't a wrestling show and I guess they can sell more PPV's with a Goldfish Tank of Death Match then with a wrestling match. Hell, I went to see some friends and wrestlers that I hadn't seen in a long time and to go to an actual event (since my last one was the ECWA Super 8)

Admission to the show - Free
Price of a beer - $2
Hotel for the evening - $65 plus tax
Ron breaking that damn chair in the opening bout - Priceless

Women's Extreme Wrestling results/report 8/18/06
By Shawn O'Domski

Results from the Women's Extreme Wrestling "Twisted Steel & Sex Appeal" pay-per-view taping at the New Alhambra Arena (the former ECW Arena) in Philadelphia on Friday night 8/18/06:

Ring Announcer: Scott Hudson (former WCW announcer)
Senior Referee: Isis
Ringside Official: Jessica Blade
Ringside Nurse: Nurse T

1. Lacey pinned Mickey Knuckles. This match dragged on longer than it should have. Boring at first, but wound up being decent.

2. Mercedes Martinez beat Cindy Rogers in a lumberjack match. Two of my favorite female wrestlers in this one. Not much involvement from the female lumberjacks...announced as lumberjanes.

3. WEW Tag Team Champions April Hunter & Talia Madison defeated Team Blondage (Amber O'Neill & Lollipop) to retain the titles. Before the match, Lollipop announced this was her last match. Towards the end, O'Neill turned on Lollipop and left her alone in the ring to get beat up. After the match, O'Neill told Hunter, Madison, and Lollipop they could go screw themselves.

4. Sumie Sakai beat Simply Luscious (with Lucy Furr AKA WCW's Daffney) in a Weapons match. There were no real weapons in this one. Four cardboard U- Haul boxes were brought out. One of the "weapons" was a feather-filled bed pillow.

5. "Full Breasted Italian" Angel Orsini beat Navaho in a Sicilian Stretcher match. I think Navaho is the same girl who wrestles as Alere Little Feather. She's a real cutie! The object of this one was to put your opponent on the stretcher and wheel her out of the arena.

6. "Pryme Tyme" Amy Lee destroyed Tai "Killer" Weed in a Tar & Feathers match billed as "Unfinished Business." I really got a kick out of Amy Lee's mic skills. Her gimmick is a foul-mouthed biker broad. She practically insulted everyone in the place and was dropping curse words left and right...especially towards an area wrestling regular known as Stan the Fan. This match featured the ring being covered with a tarp. Lee destroyed Weed throughout the match. Weapons of choice were trash cans, rolling pins, chains, cheese graters, a box that contained the game Twister, and frying pans. At the end, Lee poured chocolate syrup all over Weed, threw the empty bottle into the crowd, then covered her with feathers from a large bed pillow. Some of the excess chocolate sauce covered a few people in the first two rows! Amy Lee is now one of my new favorite female wrestlers.

Short break to clean up the ring.

7. Nurse T beat Jessica Blade and Lauren Looselips in a three-way Chocolate Syrup match. This match was short and sweet, so to speak. The match featured
the ring still covered with the tarp, all three women in string bikinis, covered in chocolate sauce. All they did was roll around the ring, similar to what women do in a mud wrestling contest. Nurse T won the match by pinning both women.

Short break to remove the tarp from the ring and sweep up.

8. April Hunter (with Talia Madison) pinned Annie Social.

9. Lacey (with Lucy Furr aka WCW's Daffney) beat Navaho.

10. Talia Madison (with April Hunter) defeated Sumie Sakai in a Goldfish Tank of Death match. The object of this one was to stuff your opponent's head into a fish tank full of goldfish. Madison and Hunter double-teamed Sakai pretty much the entire time. Sumie came to the ring dressed in pink pajamas, along with goggles, a snorkel, an inflatable "surf board", and those inflatable kiddie "swimmie" things kids wear on their arms for swimming. Sumie also enjoyed squirting everyone with water using a Super Soaker.

11. Mickey Knuckles pinned Cindy Rogers.

12. "Full Breasted Italian" Angel Orsini beat Mercedes Martinez, Simply Luscious, and "Pryme Tyme" Amy Lee in a Steel Cage match to win the WEW Heavyweight title. The amount of time it took them to put the cage up was amost twice as long as the match itself. The highlight of this stupidly short match was Mercedes jumping off the top of the cage and doing a High Cross Body move onto Amy Lee. Mercedes tried climbing out of the cage several times. The end happened rather quick, when Orsini simply escaped the cage through the door. After the match, Amy Lee was throwing a hissy fit all over the place.

My friend and I got in line around 7:00. There were maybe 30 people ahead of us. The doors were supposed to open at 7:30. They finally let people in around 8:20. The event was supposed to start at 8:00. It didn't start till almost 9:00. The first three matches seemed to drag quite a bit, to a point where I was actually bored (I was visiting the food stand quite a bit for beer and soft pretzels)...but the pace picked up later, and overall, I enjoyed the show. The event ended around 12:30. I know it was only a three hour or so show, but it seemed it lasted alot longer than that. However, I shouldn't complain, considering I got in for free. The WEW website had printable coupons for a free general admission ticket. I sat in the last row on a bleacher seat. It was the equivalent of being about ten rows from the ring. Not a bad seat at all. The event also featured stars from the Penn Jersey She Devils roller derby team. There is some all-day roller derby and concert event at the ECW Arena, oh excuse me...the New Alhambra Arena, next Saturday. They were there just to hand out their flyers and sell merchandise.
