The Black Nature Boy Scoot Andrews
1. What made you decide to become a professional wrestler?
Going to the Jacksonville Coliseum in Jacksonville, Florida every Thursday
night and watching Florida Championship Wrestling would be the catalyst
for my career. I followed guys like Dusty Rhodes, Jack and Jerry Brisco,
Don Muraco, Mike Graham, Ric Flair, Steve Keirn, and Sweet Brown Sugar.
It does not get any better than that. Once I finished with football, I
needed something athletic to occupy my time. Wrestling was a perfect fit,
plus I loved it growing up.
2. Who trained you? When was your first match? For what promotion?

I was originally "trained" by a worker named Damian Lee. He
started my training and my "real" trainer, Hack Meyers (ECW)
finished it. My first match was against Damian Lee for Renegade Championship
Wrestling in September 1994.
3. You were in the 2000 ECWA Super 8 Tournament. What was that experience
like for you? How did Jim Kettner learn about you?
The Super 8 is the top of the mountain as far as independents go. It was
such a great experience. Jim is truly a class act guy who treats each
worker as a person. He is awesome! The exposure was tremendous. Jim heard
about me through his late nephew, All-American Jeff Peterson.
4. Following the ECWA Super 8, you were booked to work many more ECWA
shows. You even held the ECWA Title for some time. How did it feel to
know that Jim Kettner had the faith in you to let you "carry the
ball"? Did your time in ECWA help lead to your other bookings in
the northeast?
The fact that Jim had faith in me meant a lot. How often do you get to
be the champion for a promotion that has been around over 35 years. He
has seen it all, and the fact that he saw something in me means more than
you could imagine. My time in the ECWA led to numerous bookings, not only
in the Northeast, but nationwide. Working for Jim opens many doors for
you. A few doors that opened were: WWF(E), Ring of Honor, and All Pro
Wrestling (California).
5. Is there anyone you would like to wrestle that you haven't had the
opportunity to?
I can't narrow that down to one person but my list goes as follows: Ric
Flair, Austin Idol, Jack Brisco, Ernie Ladd, Superstar Billy Graham, Nick
Bockwinkle, Ricky Steamboat, Eddy Guerrero, Arn Anderson, and Randy Savage.
They were and are the best in the business as far as I am concerned.
6. What do you think of the current state of professional wrestling?
Well, that is a tricky question. I mean, it is not about the wrestling
anymore. It is definitely all about the show. It lost the moniker of "wrestling"
when everyone found out about what really goes on. Once it became sports
entertainment, it has never been the same. Sure, it was at it's all time
high during the time fans got "smart", but it has spiraled downward
since then. I don't know where is will end up either. Some of the opening
spots in a match now contain moves that used to be and still should be
finishes. You basically have to finish a guy with a move that is either
dangerous or looks extremely dangerous. Luckily, my finish (Force of Nature)
looks vicious. If it ever becomes a set-up move, I am retiring!
7. What has been the highlight of your career, thus far?
The highlight of my career would have to be making it to the finals of
the Super 8 against Christopher Daniels. A close second would have to
be everytime I have walked down the ramp for WWF(E). Third would have
to be carrying ECWA's strap for almost a year.
8. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I am a Playstation 2 junkie! I love to play Madden 2003 and NCAA Football
2003. I would play from the time I woke up until I fell asleep that night
if my wife would let me. I also love playing with my daughter (5 months
old), coaching Pop Warner football, and working in my saltwater aquarium.
9. Of all the promotions you have worked for, which ones stand out
the most in your mind (as either particularly good or
bad)?
Good: ECWA, Ring of Honor, APW (California), IPW (Florida-my home promotion),
NWA Florida, NWA Wildside, Steel Domain, JAPW, JCW, and WWF(E)(of course).
Bad: Too many to name. Florida was notorious for bad promotions. There
have been some that don't even qualify as "backyard". I won't
call any names here, but one promotion sticks out as the worst ever---it
was called ICW in Jacksonville. Insane Championship Wrestling. Running
at a sports bar called "Box Seats". It was worst than awful.
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully still alive and healthy! LOL. Seriously, I see myself enjoying
my family, following my Jacksonville Jaguars (no matter how bad we are),
involved with wrestling in some capacity (either training, booking, or
commentating).
