This past week, I left in the wee hours of Thursday morning traveling
to Atlantic City and the Trump Taj Mahal for the 1st MMA & Sports
Extravaganza. I was able to bring my 24 year old son Michael and for the
next four days… he didn’t sleep much, wanting to take in all
of the festivities. Friday night’s red carpet affair made you feel
like you were at a Hollywood premiere, and the Muay Thai event that night
fulfilled anyone’s appetite for some hard hitting action.
On Saturday, we started off with a celebrity breakfast. The convention opened up at 10am consisting of Strongman contests, bodybuilding, seminars, vendor displays and martial art demonstrations. Later that evening was the celebrity dinner and that night concluded with the MMA Event where several fighters were brought into the cage as guests of honor along with yours truly. Blurry eyes in need of coffee attended the “Feast with the Beast” on Sunday morning for the celebrity breakfast. By my side was none other than the “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.
During my time there I got to converse with martial arts superstars, Joe Lewis, Chuck Zito and many others. Speaking of Chuck, My son was quite enamored by his wardrobe and was seen taking notes on how to dress with style. Also in attendance was pro wrestling legend and master/creator of the YRG Fitness program, Diamond Dallas Page. I was rather impressed with the preparation and exercises that were in his program, sure to improve anyone. On the other side of me, was another wrestling legend, Kurt Angle presenting his food line, “Angle Foods.”
All in all, it was a great weekend. The next time I will be in Atlantic City will be January 21st/22nd/ 23rd for the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame Weekend. For details on this, feel free to contact me at dan@dansevern.com.
