Grapple Masters Wrestling
Saturday night 2/17/07
Holley Hall
Bristol, Vermont

By Shawn O'Domski

Ring Announcer: Benjamin James
Attendance: nowhere near the 140 that GMW Officials reported on another website. I would guesstimate there were about 80 people...if that.

The show opens with ring announcer Benjamin James welcoming everyone for coming. He also says he's Acting Commissioner, filling in for the absent Mr. Johnny Fabulous.

Opening promo--Benjamin James introduces The Vachons, but The Hellraisers come out instead. They start picking on some kid in the crowd, named Albert. They invite Albert into the ring, and whip his ass, after he says he's a fan of the Vachons. After the beating, the Vachons save the day. This sets up the Tag Team Championship Series singles matches for later in the show.

1. The Brazillian Hug Squad (Buttery Bert Williams & Thorn with Kenny Casanova) defeated "Too Fit" Eric Atlas & Joey Brico. One of the Brazillian guys suffered a leg injury after a botched neckbreaker by Bricco. I think the match ended early because of the injury. A couple of referees came out to help him. The injured Brazillian was seen limping around during intermission.

2. Shane & Eric Alden (with The Director) over Justin Sane & The Bruiser.

3. Legion "Freakin" Cage and Osirus battled to a time limit draw. A time limit was never announced. Before the match was called, a random referee snuck out and said something to the ring announcer. The announcer then said "the referee has told me there's only two minutes left in this match!" Since when does a backstage referee act as a timekeeper...let alone any referee? The match ends with Osirus and the crowd wanting the match to last five more minutes. Cage refuses.

Promo--Bad Religion" Max Burton comes out and says he's going to take over the GMW, and make it a better product for the fans. He says he's been scouting the locker room for potential talent to take under his wing. This was a very silly promo. It just didn't gain my attention too much, but whatever.

4. Hoss pinned Swinger Sadusky. Sadusky dominated 99% of the match, working on Hoss' left knee throughout the match. Hoss was able to get enough strength back to finish off Sadusky, after a powerbomb.

5. Hellraiser Misery defeated Damien Vachon in a tables match. This was the first of two matches in the Tag Team Championship series. These two didn't waste any time brawling outside the ring. With the outside-the-ring action going on, the ring crew was trying to make some quick repairs to the ring. (Maybe they should have taken the intermission after Match 4 when the problems with the ring were discovered?!?!?!) Vachon and Misery took several chair shots, with what seemed to be new furniture at Holley Hall. (The chairs were in great shape!). These guys brawled non-stop throughout. Hellraiser Pain tries to interfere, but Vachon stops him in his tracks. A couple of minutes later, Vachon has Misery set up for a piledriver on the ring apron, next to the table set up on the floor. Max Burton interferes, and strikes Vachon. Misery was able to hit a piledriver of his own on Vachon from the ring apron through the table. This move stunned the Holley Hall crowd, including Yours Truly...considering the table was right in front of me! Damien Vachon laid motionless for several minutes, and several referees and wrestlers came to his aid.

Intermission for autographs, goodies from the concession stand (cupcakes, cookies, among other baked dessert items), hot chocolate from the gas station next door, and more repairs to the ring. A brief "cat fight" between Miss Deville and Liz Savage broke out before intermission was over.

Promo--"Bad Religion" Max Burton comes out again for another silly promo. This time, he picks on Logan the GMW Security Guy. Logan says he's a wrestler in training, and looks forward to his time in the ring. With that said, Burton attacks Logan, which leads up to Match 6.

6. "Bad Religion" Max Burton destroyed Logan the Security Guy. Logan showed no offense during this match.

7. J.P. Black defeated The Texas Outlaw, "White Lion" Jim Tanner, and The Punk in a Four Way Falls Count Anywhere match to win the GMW Heavyweight
Championship. The Punk was substituting for Bobby Fish, who is still in Japan. Promo before the match has Outlaw complaining that he won the title at the
last show. Here comes J.P. Black, followed by Jim Tanner. Tanner says he respects Black, but can't stand the Outlaw. The Punk is then announced as Fish's replacement. The match starts, and all four spend most of the match brawling outside the ring. Weapons of choice were Texas Outlaw's wife's boots, some girl's purse, and chairs. There was non-stop brawling...too much to even describe (if that makes sense). The end featured the Outlaw being the recipient of the F.U./Psycho Driver by J.P. Black, and he scores the pin.

8. Nick Nilson & Miss Deville beat Brian Anthony & Liz Savage. At one point, Miss Deville was bent over to attempt some move on Savage, and all you saw was her cleavage (well that's what I saw anyway). Deville yells out "You wanna see something really cool?" and Nilson yells out "Yeah...boobies!!!" He starts a "boobies! boobies!" chant!

9. Pierre Vachon beat Hellraiser Pain in a Thumbtacks match. Pierre brings a bucket full of tacks, and a steel chain to the ring. Pain brings a very large snow shovel with him. Pain was the first one to be slammed onto the pile of tacks. Later on, Pain shoved a handful of tacks into Pierre's mouth! Pierre also suffered a nasty cut, after being smacked in the head with the snow shovel. Pierre barely flinched after being hit! Pierre got his own shot in with the shovel as well. Max Burton tries to stick his nose in where it doesn't belong, but Pierre stops him in his tracks. Pierre scored the pin, after a sidewalk slam on Pain onto the pile of tacks. With the win, the Tag Team Championship series is tied up at one win apiece. This sets up a tag team dog collar match for the Championship on March 10.

This was my first-ever trip to Bristol, Vermont. Luckily, the snow had been cleared from I-93, I-89, and the Vermont state highways! Driving through the Green Mountains of Vermont is a beautiful sight! It was tough to pay attention to the roads, with all that beautiful scenery around! I made a stop at Hubbard's General Store at the intersection of Routes 100 & 125 in Hancock, Vermont. This little store has everything anyone would need...a real backwoods Mom & Pop store...complete with a very small gas station! I should have bought some Hancock-made Vermont maple syrup, but didn't! Holley Hall in Bristol is truly a historic venue. It reminds me of the PAL Hall in Fall River (MA), but not quite as big. Holley has one balcony, but doesn't surround the entire building like the PAL Hall one does. The place has a small stage on the opposite end of the building from where the entrance is. The ring was set up in front of the stage (which was used as the "locker room"). The crowd seemed to be into the show at times, but had to be egged on by the wrestlers most of the time...which even featured times of total silence from the crowd. I could tell there's not much to do in Bristol, so this was a great event to bring the family to (I think the nearest "major city" is Burlington). This show featured some weird kid (who seemed like he wasn't playing with a full deck) who kept approaching the wrestlers during matches, and kept throwing crap into the ring. This kid's parents and GMW staff did nothing to keep this kid at bay. The stupid parents actually thought it was amusing that he was approaching wrestlers during the matches. My night in Bristol was capped off with a visit to the nearby Bobcat Cafe (a very quaint eating and drinking establishment) followed by the long drive back to Massachusetts. The next GMW event in Bristol, Vermont is scheduled for March 10.
