![]() Shawn Spears1. What made you ever decide to get involved in professional wrestling? 1. I always loved wrestling. Since I was a kid. It was always at the back of my mind. I did some acting a bit in Toronto and after one audition that went badly...lol...I walked out of the room and literally said out loud to myself "forget it...im goin to wrestling school". From there that was it. 2. What was your training regimine like? Who trained you? How did you go about finding them? 2. When I first started training it was about 4 days a week. usually everyother day. I was trained by NWA TNA star "Showtime" Eric Young. Before I met Showtime I looked on the internet everywhere for random wrestling schools. Mostly all of them said "If you want to be world champion, this is the place to be" I thought to myself well thats kinda a bold statement to say to someone before u have even seen them. I then met Eric Young at a Neo Spirit Pro show in Niagara Falls Canada and he said to me " I can't garantee you a contract with the WWE, a world title or $$$, the only thing I can garantee, is you will be in pain everyday, you will have to make many sacrifices but I garantee that I will teach you how to wrestle". After he said that I signed up right away. 3. What do you think of the current state of professional wrestling? 3. The current state of pro wrestling? Its a little tougher now with only 2 companies. WWE and NWA TNA. a few years ago you had WCW, ECW and WWE so there were more options. Wrestling is like an ongoing rollercoaster. It has its high points...then goes down for a bit then up for a while then down for a bit again. But it is something that in one way or another facinates people therefore it will always be around. Both the WWE and NWA TNA do their best to put on a good quality entertainment show and the same applies to us "indy" guys as well. Everytime we go to the ring whether it be 10 people in the audience or 10,000, we do our very best to make sure everyone goes home happy they bought a ticket. 4. Who have been your favorite people to step into the ring with or against? Why? 4. I have been in the ring with alot of very talented performers and have had great matches with them. If I had to pick a few guys that I enjoyed working with the most it would have to be The Highlanders(a tag team who has just signed a contract with the WWE), "Completely" Cody Steele and "Dangerboy" Derek Wylde. The Highlanders are a fantastic tag team and really understand and respect the craft. Cody Steele is in my opinion on of the best talents in North America. His ability to tell a story through theatrics and charisma is just top notch and is one hell of a "ring general". Dangerboy Derek Wylde is just a phenomenal athlete. If it can be done, this guy can do it. A true professional both inside the ring and outside and a man who has helped me tremendously in my career. 5. What is the best thing about being a pro wrestlier? What is the worst? 5. The best thing about being a pro wrestler is that itself. Its what
i wanted to be since I was 5. Being able to live a dream is the greatest
reward in my opinion. Its addictive. the crowd response. once you hear
the cheers, the boo's, your hooked. Theres nothing better then goin out
there and putting on a hell of a show and have fans approach you after
and say "wow that was a great match thanks" as far as the worst
part of being a wrestler...for me, there isnt one. sure we get hurt from
time to time, but it comes with the territory we know the risks ahead
of time. It comes with the buisness. I wouldn't change a thing from the
moment I started till now. 6. What wrestlers do you enjoy watching? 7. What do you enjoy doing when you are not wrestling? 7. when im not wrestling, im in the gym or working to support wrestling. Don't get me wrong, I do watch a movie hrere and there or go to a beach every now and then but wrestling is a full time job. If you want it, you can't half ass it. You have to go at it 100%. Wrestling comsumes alot of my life. Its what I love the most. 8. What has been the highlight of your career thus far? 8. Wrestling for the WWE on Sunday Night Heat has been the highlite so
far. I wrestled a tag match against The Hurricane and Rosey. It was at
Penn State University in Pennsylvania back in February 2005. A great experience
and a memory I will never forget. Meeting all the WWE superstars in the
back was an honour as well. Everyone from Chris Benoit to Ric Flair, Kurt
Angle to Shawn Michaels. All were great and very professional. 9. I wouldn't change a thing. I have met great people along the way. There have been some hard times for sure but it all got me to this point now and im happy about where I am. I had a great trainer in Showtime who has helped me out in way more ways then one. 10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10. where do I see myself in 5 years? lol. Ive been asked this before and its kinda hard to answer. Noone knows what the future holds. lol. I hope to still be wrestling. It would be great to have a deal with a major company but that is never garanteed. All I can do is keep chipping away and hope for the best.
