After numerous continuances, a decision has finally been rendered in the arrest of Slyck Wagner Brown for assaulting his former girlfriend, April Hunter.
According to Meriden, CT Court records and prior newspaper reports, Slyck Wagner Brown was sentenced earlier this week for his 12/12/05 knife assault on ex-girlfriend April Hunter, who was seriously injured in the attack. Police had to use tasers to subdue Brown.
Brown was found guilt of:
Assault in the third degree
Disorderly conduct
Threatening in the second degree
Interfering with and resisting arrest
Brown was sentenced to two years of Family Violence Classes. He is also on Probation, and was sentenced to Community Service which he had completed prior to sentencing, according to sources. According to CT legal sources, the usual sentence in spousal abuse cases is 6 months of Family Violence Classes, so a two year sentence reflects the seriousness with which the Court views this attack. There was a possibility of a jail sentence, but that is rarely done.
In addition, Hunter still has a personal order of protection against Brown, which means, among other things, that they cannot be in the same building or appear on the same wrestling show.
Since last December, his attorney was granted numerous continuances, mainly due to added offenses committed by Brown, which included credit card fraud against April and violation of the Court's order of protection by going to a CT gym to pursue April. His attorney would say each time that he needed additional time to answer the new charges.
Brown was also found guilty of credit card fraud against Hunter in a separate action, a personal law suit filed by April against Wagner Brown after he used her credit card to pay for various charges, including car repairs and an airline ticket. The judge ordered Brown to pay more in damages than Hunter had asked for.

Sidenote: Slyck has stated in his Yahoo Group that, despite what some sites are reporting, he wasn't "sentenced" to the classes, he was "ordered" to take the classes. How can you not love wrestling?
