Hola! fellow wrestling fans, I'm Anthony Lora and welcome
once again to "Spotlight 7."
The only column designed to showcase Indy wrestlers as A- list Hollywood
Actors!
Blood, Sweat, and... "Fear"
1) Corvis Fear, welcome to Spotlight 7! Now, I know that you trained at
the infamous Jersey All-Pro Wrestling Academy in Bayonne, NJ. In fact,
you were one of the 3 wrestlers that even graduated of the 40 individuals
that originally enrolled. What would you say was the key factor in fulfilling
such accomplishment?
There wasn't just one key factor in graduating from the Jersey All-Pro
Wrestling Academy. I mean taking nothing away from those who quit, it
all boiled down to who wanted it more, and who was willing to deal with
all the hardships you had to go through to make it. From the beginning
of the classes, you could tell who was going to make it, and who was there
just to play wrestle. You had guys like me who help put up and take down
the ring and be there 5 days a week, and had the guys that could care
less. It wasn't a difficult equation.
New Jersey: the Garden state of... densely populated indy wrestling promotions!
2) It is a known fact that NJ is/was (which ever you prefer) the hotbed
for indy wrestling. Do you feel it has lost its popularity in the past
few years? Site examples to support your answer.
I think the only downfall to indy wrestling in New Jersey is it's over
saturation in the market. Which ever show you go to, you always end up
seeing the same talent on just about all the shows. If a fan can go to
any show and see the same guys, what incentive does it give that person
to give other promotions a chance?
Single and ready to...Stay Single!
3) Do you think a career as a singles competitor is your main goal, or
would you perhaps be interested in forming a dynamic tag-team somewhere
down the road?
I spent a little over a year in a tag team alongside my partner Rush Margera
in teams such as The New Reality and h2o. So I think that I got the tag
team bug out of my system. I thoroughly enjoyed tag team competition,
don't get me wrong, but it's seems as if tag wrestling is a lost art,
and there just aren't as many competitors in the tag team division as
in the singles. So in reality it seems as if there's more opportunity
and challenge in the singles division. So to answer your question, I would
say that a singles career as my main goal is a safe assumption to make.
Talk is not cheap!
4) I am aware that you have pretty good mic work. Meaning, your ability
towards cutting "promos" is certainly up to par. Which superstar
inspired you to develop that talent?
There were 2 people involved in my career that really helped mold my mic
skills. Those 2 people being Dr. Tom Prichard and Dan "Mafia"
Maff. Prichard taught me that the easiest way to mold your character is
to take yourself and who you really are, and just turn up the volume,
amplify your personality if you will. Maff, on the opposite end of the
spectrum, helped me mold my personal intensity.
A place where "green" talent was to be seen and heard...
5) What were your thoughts of the now defunct BWO Garfield based promotion?
Some, (including myself) would say it was a small promotion that had great
local potential despite the facility looking like someone's living room
complete with chandeliers ( lol- who said there's no hint of humor at
Spotlight 7)?
I think that BWO was a great place for guys that didn't have a chance
to get work with bigger promotions to get much needed experience without
having to worry about ticket selling and all that mumbo jumbo. Although
the facility wasn't the best I've seen, it had a nice, genuine feel to
it and I was sad to see it go.
Feuds, Feuds, and... More Feuds!
6) Thus far, which has been your most memorable feud that fans constantly
have brought to your interest?
Well, to be perfectly honest, in my career thus far, I have not had any
outstanding feuds. In reality I've only had 3 actual feuds. I had an ongoing
feud with Eddie Thomas in JAPW, during which he was injured and had to
take time off, never giving us a chance to have a big blow-off. I had
a feud in BWO with Justin Cage, but that was only a small time feud. Currently,
however, I am in the midst of a feud with Dan Dynasty for the NJ based
AWA. We are about 3 months in, and I don't see an end to it in the near
future.
*** Plug it in, plug it in***
7) Before we wrap up this segment of Spotlight 7, is there a way for fans
and promoters out there to contact you? Or even any upcoming merchandise
that you would like to inform us about?
Any fan or promoter can contact me directly at CorvisFear@aol.com or learn
about me on the web at http://www.corvisfear.com/, I also have a few T-shirt
and Sticker ideas on the table, and they are both currently under production.
That does it for this edition of "Spotlight 7." As always, I'm
Anthony Lora saying: Adios Amigos!!!
