Classic Wrestling at the Chase - Volume 1
Running Time: 2 hours
Available at wrestlingatthechase.com

This tape is an amazing journey back in time to the Sam Mushnik era of St. Louis wrestling circa 1978 - 1979. The tape is hosted by Larry Matysik, who worked for Mr. Mushnik back when St Louis was the wrestling hotbed.

The action begins with David Von Erich defeating Gene Stevens from February 1979. Two kneedrops, a splash, and Von Erich is the winner. Great mat action back when wrestling seemed a lot more like wrestling than it does today.

This was followed by an interview with the legendary Dick Murdoch about an upcoming match with Andre the Giant.

King King Bruiser Brody teamed with Bruiser Bob Sweetan to defeat Bryan St. John and Billy Starr from March 11, 1979. To see Brody in a tag match is a treat in itself. David Von Erich does commentary on the match. After the match, Brody declares that he does not need a tag partner. This sets up for a handicap match the following week.

King Kong Brody defeats Randy Alls (aka Randy Rose) and Pierre Bonnett in a handicap match. Ted DiBiase does commentary during the match. After the match, Brody has an interview where he talks about Harley Race.

Dick Murdoch is in the ring ready to face off against Bryan St. John when Dick the Bruiser storms the set. Bruiser is furious and an impromptu match is signed by Mushnik with Bruiser's title on the line. A great brawl which saw Murdoch defeat Dick The Bruiser for the Missouri State Title. Murdoch's feet were on the ropes for the pin but the camera did not fully catch it which set up for some great angles in the weeks to come.

Next up, from March 25th, 1979, a very young Ted DiBiase defeats Pierre Bonnett.

Dick Murdoch fights Pat O'Connor to a DQ when a huge brawl breaks out between Dick the Bruiser and Murdoch. More great brawling action that makes today's brawls look like child's play.

Dick the Bruiser is up next against Mike Bowyer. Poor Mike is thrown all over the studio, even through the set!!!

We are then treated to some highlights from some great bouts. Each highlight is approximately 5 minutes long and features the majority of the action from the match. Highlights include:

Bruiser Brody vs Frankie Lane
Joyce Grable vs Lelani Kai
Joyce Grable and Pat O'Connor vs Bulldog Bob Brown and Suzette Ferrara
Dick The Bruiser vs Armando Rodriguez
Harley Race brawls with Bruiser Brody
Ted DiBiase vs Mike Boyer

We are then treated to a classic bout between former NWA World Champion, Pat O'Connor and future NWA Champion, Ric Flair. This is immediately followed by the first confrontation between Flair and Ted DiBiase!!

Bruiser Brody is featured in the next match against Ted DiBiase.

Ted DiBiase and Paul Orndorff defeat Harley Race and Bulldog Bob Brown in a huge upset from that time!! To see two legends like Race and Brown, in their prime lose to two near rookies in DiBiase and Orndorff, made the crowd pop!

Finally, the tape shows a match between Harley Race and Gary Young.

I LOVED this tape. Considering today's televised wrestling is unwatchable (in fact I do not watch WWE anymore) and a lot of today's independent promotions feature matches filled with amazing highspots but little psychology, it was a pleasure to watch this. Not only was there some great wrestling BUT every match had psychology and the angles and storylines that were built from them were very convincing. I highly reccommend this tape to any fan of yesteryears of wrestling. The quality was excellent as the footage is nearly broadcast quality.

I will be back in the near future with my review of Volume 2!!!
