DVD review: Dangerous Women of Wrestling's Hovember To Remember 2 DVD Set Dangerous Women of Wrestling are primarily based out of PA. Formerly GLOOW, they changed their name to DWOW in February of this year. This double DVD was recorded in Philadelphia, PA in November 2002 and comes in very nice professional packaging. The first DVD starts off with a Musical Intro, showing many of the ring entrances from the matches. You are then brought to the Main Menu of the DVD. The Main Menu gives the viewer 6 options to choose from. These options include: Bios, Chapters, Opening Intro, Highlights, Credits, and of course the option to just play the show in it's entirety. The Bios section features 30 biographies on nearly every personality that appears on the DVD Set. Each Bio has a photo, accompanied by one to three screens of text highlighting their careers. The Opening Intro allows you to once again view the music montage that started off the DVD. Chapters quickly let you jump to the match you want to see most. Highlights show some of the highlights from each match, all put to music. The music is the DWOW theme song. Credits of course give you a run down of everyone who made the DVD possible. Just the professional appearance of the Main Menu and all it's features gives you the feel of watching one of the major promotions DVD's. Commentary on all of the matches is supplied by Jeffrey J James and Eric Gargiulo. The announce team not only hypes up the matches prior to them taking place but they also do a great job of calling the in ring action. When the matches aren't exactly Malenko v Guerrero, they do a fine job putting over the importance of the match as if it were a WrestleMania main event. (Plus some of the comments that they come up with are classic.) We open with a promo from Candie followed by one from BJ regarding their upcoming match. Candie v BJ in a Hardcore Bra and Panties Match opens the event. The special guest referee for the match is none other than Tara. Tara starts off by cutting an in ring promo (which immediately prompts the announcer to ask "how many refs cut promos?") The history between Tara and Candie is explained throughout the match. Not a bad match at all. Several times, Tara almost got knocked down by BJ. Tara and Candie with a double clothesline, followed by a Rock Candy Bottom, set up Candie to remove BJ's outerwear. Candie then prepares to strip (which she customarily does) but Tara tells her the people don't deserve it and she agrees. Promos from The Maes and Little Louie and King Sleazy are next. I found it strange that the word ass was consistently bleeped out yet other words were not. Psycho Bitch/ Tai Weed v The Maes (Poppa, Dawn, and Davey) v Little Louie and King Sleazy for the Tag Team Titles. Tai is on crutches and can't compete. Eventually, everyone teams up on Psycho Bitch and pin her. This leaves the Maes v the midgets in what turns into your typical midget match (which is still funny as hell). Sound Guy and Smoke attack the Maes and Sleazy pins Davey to win the Tag Team Titles. Your Tag Champs, in a women's promotion, are male midgets! Persephone vs Pussy Willow started off as an actual wrestling match! Special Ed and Chick Diesel ran in (well Special Ed didn't really run in) and squashed both girls. American Cream Pie and Lucky then entered the ring. Chick Diesel immediately attacked Cream Pie which allowed Ed and Lucky to start to brawl in the ring. The sound of the commentators screaming "Cripple Fight" in place of "Cat Fight" has to be heard to be believed. The Ring Crew tries to pull them apart but to no avail. Lucky and Ed then attack the Ring Crew until Security finally makes the save to break it up. Riptide (formerly Prodigette in ECW) and Amy Lee both cut promos about their upcoming match. Amy Lee's was basically one giant beep while Riptide's was awesome. Amy dominated the opening moments of the match until it fell out into the crowd. Riptide and Amy brawled all over the building and back to the ring. Riptide got a ladder and put it in the ring. Lee whipped Riptide into the ladder. Back at ringside, Lee set up Riptide on a table. As Lee went for a splash, Riptide moved, and Lee went through the table to the floor. Back in the ring a beautiful moonsault for the pin by Riptide. The best match I have ever seen Amy Lee have, thanks to Riptide. In the back, more promos. This time Brittney and Missy are trash talking each other. Suddenly, we see Greg Matthews attack GI Ho in the bathroom. In the Battle of the School Girl Virgins, Brittney faced off against Missy. The two girls start catfighting but Sound Guy pulls Brittney off and knocks down the referee. Missy gets mad and confronts Sound Guy only to be attacked from behind by Brittney. Sound Guy powerbombs Missy. The cameras follow Sound Guy and Brittney to the back where we learn it was all a set up. GI Ho faced off against MTV Tough Enough Contestant Greg Matthews. This was a surprisingly good match. Matthews takes the early advantage with a backbreaker and a chokeslam for a 2 count. Ho counters with a headscissors and a DDT. The two battle to the floor where Ho hits a nice dive off the top rope. She then nails Greg with 3 chairshots. Back in the ring, Ho with a HOracunrana off the top. She goes for a 2nd but is caught and powerbombed. Greg sets up Ho on a table and climbs to the top rope. He dives off with an elbow but Ho moves as he crashed through the table. Brittney enters the ring and slaps Ho. Ho slaps her back and rolls her up for the pin. Eric Gargiulo explains that Ho must have found a loophole in the contract that allowed her to pin Brittney. Thus concludes the first DVD in the double set. The Second DVD gives you two menu options: Fan Fest and Extras. The Extras allow you to see the Main Event of the card which was a Street Fight between Sound Guy and the Smoke v Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young. During the match, Sound Guy and Smoke did commentary for the match (which in my opinion took away from the great job the original 2 commentators were doing and took away from the match). Moolah and Mae want to teach these 2 a lesson as they've been interfering in too many matches. The match was hilarious. Mae hit her bronco buster on Smoke. Mae and Moolah pretty much dominated the match. The 4 battled to the back of the arena where Smoke and Sign Guy are laid out on two tables. A truck suddenly drives in and Missy climbs out. She heads to the top of the truck and dives off the truck, through Sound Guy, through the table. "Holy Shit!" GI Ho comes out to help and they all make their way back to the ring where Moolah and Mae win with double sleeper holds. Another one of the Extras is an Oil Match between Casey and American Cream Pie (with Louie and Sleazy oiling them up). Backstage gives the fans the rare opportunity to see what goes on backstage prior to and during a show. Great footage of everything from Moolah and Mae being introduced to the locker room by Commissioner Frank Talent, to the wrestlers getting psyched up for their matches. You'll never see raw footage like this on the WWE DVD's (and that may be a blessing in disguise as I'd much rather see Missy and GI Ho in the back than Nash). The Fan Fest section features footage of two of the bands that performed at the show, Wolfpac and Elements of Motion. Also included is footage from the Fan Fest where you see everyone
from Moolah to Mae to Dan Severn to The DWOW Girls signing autographs
and posing for pictures with the fans. Hardcore Bull Riding shows some hilarious footage of fans and wrestlers riding a mechanical bull, while Extreme Dunk Tank shows the fans attempting to dunk Sound Guy into fluorescent light tubes (instead of water). If you are a die hard fan of in ring wrestling, this is not for you. While there are 2 or 3 actual wrestling matches, this DVD is more for the fan who not only wants to see some wrestling but also wants to see some great comedy as well as a lot of T and A (and I do NOT mean Test and Albert). Great camera work from multiple cameras, great quality, awesome commentary, and great graphics makes this one of the most professional looking indy DVD's I have ever seen. If you are looking for a good time, some laughs, some beautiful women, and some wrestling, then this DVD is for you. I recommend it.
