DVD Review: ROH – CHI-TOWN STRUGGLE – CHICAGO RIDGE, ILLINOIS– 6.24.06

Available at ROHWrestling.com

We are reminded to watch the "ROH Video Recap" on the main menu before watching the event. The recap features a tease of Jacobs/Whitmer from In Your Face and hypes the elimination three way match on this show. It also features hype for KENTA’s match on this, as well as the following show. Colt Cabana, who is just amazing on the mic, talks about his match against Bryan Danielson in FIP for the title and the match they’ll have in Chicago as a result of the controversial finish.

Rhett Titus, Bobby Dempsey, and a third guy make fun of Shane Hagadorn for losing to the Irish Airborne. Hagadorn says he’s going to beat the Crist brothers tonight and he still doesn’t need their help.

Colt Cabana talks about his history in ROH.

Irish Airborne vs Shane Hagadorn & Trik Davis-

I'm not familiar with most of these guys and quite honestly wasn't all that into the match up.

Roderick Strong vs Jimmy Jacobs-

Back and forth action from the start made this match very enjoyable to watch. The crowd seemed to be supporting both men. Tons of chops bu Roderick while Jimmy uses a lot of headscissors and the like to take him down. A very good finish that actually left you wanting more.

Briscoe Brothers vs Jimmy Rave & Conrad Kennedy III-

Not the greatest match in the world. Not all that impressive of an outing by Conrad.

Samoa Joe vs Delirious-

Delirious with the usual comedy routine to start off. The bell rings make him run around the ring until he runs into Joe and knocks himself out. Classic!. Joe dominated the match while Delirious got some spurts of offense now and again.

ROH vs CZW 6 Man War-

A bit of a letdown and a very short mathc. Nothing stood out in particular as it was mainly an all out brawl.

Nigel McGuinness vs Homicide-

Excellent pure title match that started off slow but gradually gaine pace getting faster and faster. Toward the end, it does break into some organized chaos. Homicide tries his best to stay within the rules and the finish does have a cool table spot and some smart thinking on the part of Nigel.

KENTA vs Austin Aries-

What starts out as a slow match quickly turns into a ton of stiff kicks followed by both men going all out. Some of the hardest kicks and sickest moves I have seen in a long time. Simply an amazing match with both men giving more than 100 percent.

Bryan Danielson vs Colt Cabana-

Have I mentioned how much of a Colt Cabana mark I am? He can blend comedy into any kind of match, without distracting from the bout in any way, shape or form. Some great mat wrestling with both men showing how good they truely are. Everything from the crowd reaction to the wrestling to the storyline made this match excellent.

While some of the matches were disappointing (to me), KENTA v Austin and Danielson v Cabana made the DVD. If you are a fan of any of these four men then the DVD is well worth it.
