DVD Review Pro Wrestling Superstars - Past, Present, and Future The DVD begins with our host, Aaron Weiss giving us a preview of what we will see on this DVD. First up, from USA Pro Wrestling, Xavier v Red. The two men start off by exchanging a flurry of offensive moves until Xavier gains the upper hand. Xavier pummels Red with knees to the midsection and head. Xavier whips Red into the turnbuckles but misses with a splash, which causes him to fall to the floor. Red hits a suicide dive to the outside on Xavier. Xavier soon gains control and the action spills back into the ring. Suddenly, the Hit Squad come to ringside. Xavier hits the "Kiss Your X Goodbye" for a 2 count and heads to the top rope to huit his 450 splash. While on the top rope, Xavier is distracted by the Natural Born Sinners. As the ref leaves the ring to tell the Sinners to leave, the Hit Squad enter and attack Xavier, setting up Red for the victory. Next up is a 3 way match for the Border City Wrestling Championship. Shane Douglas comes to ringside and begins one of his never ending promos. He calls DLo Brown out for backup since Johnny Swinger has Miss Natasha and A1 at his side. DLo and Shane throw A1 from the ring and spank Natasha before the ref orders the two sidekicks to the locker room. The match begins with all the usual 3 way match action you would expect to see. A three way sleeper hold turns into a three way jawbreaker. DLo and Shane double team Swinger constantly until the two begin to argue over who will get the pinfall. DLo is knoked to the ring apron as Swinger and Douglas battle. Douglas hits a quick belly to belly suplex on Swinger but DLo immediately hits Shane with a frog splash for the pinfall. DLo retains his title. For the BCW TV Title, Eric Young takes on Chris Sabin in an outstanding match. The two trade offensive maneuvers throughout the entire match. To try and do this match justice by writing about it, can not be done. The finish came as Young hits a powerbomb for a two count then climbs to the top rope. Young gets crotched on the top and Sabin hits him with the Future Shock for the pinfall. Great match all around. In the final match on the DVD, Andre the Giant and Dick the Bruiser battle Ox Baker and Baron Karl Von Krupp. Krupp attacks Andre during the ring intros but is easily thrown to the floor at ringside. Andre starts off the match dominating Ox Baker with a headlock. He then smashes his two opponents heads together. The Bruiser comes in but is soon double teamed by Ox and Karl until Andre makes the save. Bruiser applies a stomach claw on Krupp. All four men then brawl in the ring until the TV time limit expires. The DVD ends with comments by both DLo Brown and Shane Douglas. The two men give their thoughts on ring psychology. While it does expose the business (as if it hasn't already been exposed enough), Shane Douglas hits the nail on the head. Shane points out how so many of today's wrestlers have no psychology. He asks how someone can take a 5 minute beating on his arm or leg and then suddenly jump to his feet to hit some incredible high flying move. I could not agree more. Unfortunately, that is what has become of the business today (and probably has had some impact in the downward trend the business is taking). Overall, a very enjoyable DVD with two excellent matches, a great match from the past, and a short but sweet three way match (with the exception of Shane's promo). Video quality was excellent as was the commentary on all the matches. |
