DVD Reviews

It's hard not to be excited when you have the chance to get such an inside view on two people who have been involved with and responsible for so much of professional wrestling and it's more noteworthy events in recent years. So, step up to the table; Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara.

Sure, in the eyes of some; Russo and Ferrara are controversial - and they probably do justify that tag. But during this interview, they come across rather well; and extremely interesting. Shoot interviews, are usually either one of three things - blatant lies, a mix of lies and truth, or the truth. And it's usually up to you what parts you believe of what's said during them. But one thing this is, is a very rare insight into a world that has rarely been exposed prior to this dvd release.

So - I guess there are some people somewhere who might ask - Who ARE Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara? .....

Vince Russo has had many jobs as such, running a video rental store, a NYC based radio show devoted to wrestling in the early 1990's (which was when yours truly had first heard of him), former journalist for the WWF/E's magazines, and then writer and creative for WWF/E and WCW, then TNA; and then to call it quits having decided to take the word of an even higher power into his heart - the Lord himself, God.

Ed Ferrara used to mix writing sitcoms in LA, with a life as an independent wrestler. When it came up in the late 1990's for him to write with Russo in the WWF/E, he jumped at the chance; and when it came to WCW calling, he went with him then also. Currently, after leaving TNA, he teaches television and writing and producing workshops in and around Chicago.

In the respects of presentation, this dvd release is top class. Wade Keller of PW Torch does a good job as the main interviewer, and adds a nice professional touch to the project. A lot of wrestling promotions and more could learn from the production values here in this. One nice thing, is that it's not just one camera used; so the angles change and you don't get stuck with that same view of the person speaking. Another nice touch, is when insider terms or matches or incidents are quoted, there will be a message at the bottom of the screen making reference to it, or what it meant; for the newer or slightly more innocent viewer of professional wrestling. And with enough content for three dvd's, you wouldn't have expected bonus footage and material, but sure enough - there's enough to make you happy, and more. In these respects, this dvd stands out above the crowd.

As for the content? If I sat here, and told you everything that was said, word for word, in this dvd release - why would you go and buy it? When I review a match, I call the parts I liked and didn't - I won't call it move for move - what's the point? And the same goes for this dvd in that respect, but what I will say is that is MORE than enough tidbits of information, more bits of 'gossip' and expose'; to keep even the person who believes they know 'everything' about professional wrestling happy.

So, go and visit the guys at www.ultimateinsiders.com, tell them I sent you - and get the dvd! I personally recommend it strongly, as very informative and entertaining - well worth the money.
